My mind sunk into a deep abyss, emptiness filling it all around. A quiet whisper slowly creeping up on me.

“Listen!”

“Listen!”

“Listen!”

“Listen to what?!” I shouted into the empty space.Finding my feet.

“To my story” the voice roared knocking me back to the ground. Suddenly a tunnel of light appeared beneath me, twisting, sucking me in. I covered my face and curled into a ball preparing for impact but nothing happened. I uncurled my body and took my hands from my face to find myself suspended in air.

“What the heck is going on!” I shouted into blue void, white puffs floating all around me.

“This is my story, the story of your ancestors. To understand this one will need to see it. Do not my child no harm can come to you here. Take in the sights of your ancestors land. I do not believe you have seen it before.”

I flapped my arms about going nowhere, ruled out flying. This isn't normal, how am I floating?

"You can do many things when inside your mind child." she spoke again, her voice calming me. The voice of a wise woman filled the spaces around me. Bouncing off the cliff walls that sat opposite eachother.

Water plumeted into ponds below the cliffs, which seemed to be homes of creatures I have never before imagined. Women with fish tails leaped high from the pond into the air. Long hair swaying in the wind as there tails motioned back and forth. What were they? Fish Ladies? Gardens surrounded every pond, they were the size of Mr and Mrs Harleys back paddock and that was huge! One, Two, Three. Three ponds, a small stream running from one to the other connecting them. The ponds lead north to an immense field. Girls as brown as trees, with long brunette hair that entangled leaves, danced all over the field and through the forest that laid near. Cheerily laughing, as if free from the weight of the world. Massive lizards soared high above me, all different sizes and colours, breathing fire of different colours whacking each other down playfully. My vision then blurred rapidly switching, from the luscious fields and forests, from the great lizards and decorated ponds, to a small but bustling village.

“Listen now!” The mysterious voice commanded.

“The Lycits were a great and noble family, respected by everyone, loved by everyone and worshipped by most. They were a family who cared for the people, not money or food or possessions. Their purpose was the happiness of the villagers of Akrof. To make things easy each age level took on different tasks. The adolescents kept the children and elderly safe fending off thugs and bullies and quite often saving lost children from the dark woods where the great wood nymph Queen Holly lived.

The adults tendered to more pressing concerns like keeping the peace between the village and the cities; they kept wars from arising and dealt with conflicts both inside and outside the city. Their job was no easy feat as kings and queens, magical and human, were jealous of the little village of Akrof. Humans complained it was not fair that the villagers were the only ones tended to, they wanted the Lycits to work for them as well, but the villagers refused.”

“They do not work for us! They help us; they keep us safe from being greedy nit wits like your city! They protect our young and elderly from coming to harm and help us with our harvest. You are not worthy of this family. Besides if they were to help you rats, war would soon arise as you would use them as your weapons!”

An old man stood at the end of a bridge, it seemed to be the only thing that connected the village to the outside. His frail finger pointed at hundreds of men who dawned down on him from above, legs covered by a sheet of black. His voice was raspy but had the authoritative tone of a leader.

“The magical queens and kings of Naltyre despised the Lycits for they did exactly what the village elder said; protecting the children from harm. The magical beings of Naltyre loved to feast on humans, especially human young. Ever since man was created the magical beings hunted them down and devoured them. The Lycits worked hard to keep the queens, kings and their minions away, but it was no easy task. The children were easily lured to them by their tricks. So no magical being was allowed to enter the village without being invited in by a Lycit and accompanied by one. If one were to enter uninvited a thousand years of pain would be inflicted on them. None was allowed to cross the bridge either without first declaring it so all the villagers could hear. That was all thanks to the elderly who helped tend crops and raised barriers around Akrof. The inability of being able to eat an Akrofian was what made them so angry. That, Lycits, a force that was below them could stop them so easily.”

“So what, was there a war between them?” just as those words left my mouth an army came marching in from the north. Knees lifted high into the air, one arm stationary to their side the other holding a sword. Body covered in armour, clinking as their prolonged march carried on. It looked as if they were heading for the bridge. They couldn’t get through right? It was shielded.

“Wrong, the barriers could only fend off magical beings. Humans have shunned the existence of Magic, therefore Magic ignored their existence.”

Once again my vision blurred, this time a close up of the village. Seeing all this made me turn away, but the vision stayed in view, following me. Women screamed in pain, shrieking as soldiers took their children and slayed them. Their life-less bodies lay dead on the ground throats slit, limbs severed and eyes plucked out. The mothers had sadly suffered the same fate. These warriors had no mercy killing everything that crossed their paths. The heads of the animals lay metres away from the bodies. The men were cut into pieces, eyes plucked as well. Houses were lit on fire, babies screamed from the top of their lungs. The mothers probably murdered. These men were not worthy of being called warriors. They were ruthless slaughterers; these people did not deserve to die!

"STOP! Stop killing them you cunts!! These peole did nothing to you! Why?! WHY?!!" My voice cracked and several tears slid from my sockets. I couldn't stand the site of everything but even when i shut my eyes it was there. The kids with no eyes, blood-spattered buildings, woman, men, babies.. I could see them all.

"I'm afraid child that they cannot hear you, this is everything I saw. A flashback of my memory."

Once the onslaught was over, the soldiers looted everything they could salvage in the small village. They fled as quickly as they came. Cowards they were jumping when hands fell from roof tops to on their heads. War horns exploded through the air, vibrations shaking the remainders of the village. Beasts of all shapes and sizes then entered the village. I saw the fish ladies. They walked on two legs now but they were covered in scales. Bright green coloured scales and yellow some had dark red scales mixed with gold. The giant lizards flew down from the sky landing into the village. My jaw dropped when they landed. These lizards took the form of humans! All these animals seemed to take the form of humans. All differing in appearance but they all had two arms two legs and thumbs. The lizards’ wings flapped roughly then folded behind their back. Three tall pillars of rocks moved towards the village, their enormous height reached high into the sky. With every step they took it looked as if they were shrinking, finally reaching the height of two grown men. Why had they come I thought they were blocked? And why didn’t anyone fight back? …….. “Hey voice! Answer me.”

“They came to devour the remains of the humans. This is a truly sad site. One I cannot forget even after thousand of years of reincarnation. The people of Akrof are dead young one, so the barriers no longer stand.” She sighed, she sounded sad, pained. Her voice cracked and a small sob barely escaped. “They did not fight back because they couldn’t. It seems the soldiers knew of this day and chose to use it to their advantage.”

“This day, can you elaborate?” so many questions filled my mind. Why had all the eyes been plucked out? Why was it that the humans were killed I thought they weren’t magical? Had the village not planned at all for an attack from humans? So many questions, only a few would reach my tongue.

“This day is the day when Lycits lose their powers, like how Vampires can not move when the sun is up the Lycits can't use their abilites when the planets align."

A hand elegantly waved over the orb. Ending the vision and pulling me back into the abyss. It must’ve been the light I saw before, it didn't shine so brightly now. I looked to the figure behind the orb and became instantly awestruck. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Her golden blonde hair flowed to her hips. She wore a crown made from rock; it had three low points like any typical crown. Each points held high a jewel, the right most carried a topaz the leftmost a ruby and a sapphire stood high and mighty in the middle. She was not human, I could tell by her eyes. They were like cat eyes but were shaped in a cross. One slit went down and another went across the black pupil joining in the middle. They were tinted blue and seemed calm. Her skin was lightly tanned but had a bright glow. It enveloped around her whole body fitting to her like a uniform. When I stared into her eyes my confusion fled and my fear evaporated, all that I felt was calmness. It reminded me of what happens with Dimitri.

“Welcome my child; I have long awaited your arrival”
