could make it back to camp in time for the sun-high patrol, we have been having some trouble with the BreezeClan border lately. What do you think Songpaw?” Ivytail asked.
Songpaw had to think about it for a minute then said “Do you think I could go and see if Whiteflower needs any help?”
Ivytail looked puzzled but meowed “Sure, but I’m going to join the sun-high hunting patrol.”
“Okay thanks Ivytail, I will see you later.” Songpaw mewed as she was walking out of the grassy clearing and headed in the direction of the camp. And then into the sweet smelling area of the camp. “Whiteflower are you there? I came to give you a helping paw, that is if you want me to”
“Oh hi Songpaw how are you today? Training go well?” Whiteflower’s voice was calm and soothing.
“Yes training was great today! Ivytail is talking to Rosestar about me going to the gathering tonight because I have all the battle moves and hunting techniques required to go! So is there anything you need me to help you with?” Songpaw asked.
“Um... yes you can help me move these herbs inside the cave so they don’t get wet, I feel the cool breeze that usually signals rain. Then if you still want to help we can organize them.” Whiteflower explained.
“Okay, well we better get to work if we want these to be useable after this storm.” Songpaw meowed as she started to pick up the first leaf.
“Oh no! I forgot about Ripplestorm, I was supposed to check on her kits. Duskkit, Nettlekit, and Dewkit are so adorable, but they are all a bit sick.” Whiteflower added.
“I can carry on hear while you go do that, if you want.” Songpaw asked.
“That would be great, thank you so much. When I get back I will tell you a story about you as a kit.” Whiteflower commented.
“I’m back, so about that story. You were just a little kit, only 3 moons old. I was out collecting herbs and when I came back there was a little fluffy ginger body was in my den. But you weren’t causing trouble you were fixing it. Ashkit and Featherkit were running out of the den, they had been messing up my herbs and you were organizing them. Then you said that you wanted to be a herbcat like me and I talked to your parents about it and they thought it was a great idea. I didn’t have an apprentice yet so I was all for it but then before you were 6 moons old your father took you from the camp and you know what happened from there.” Whiteflower explained.
“Do you have an apprentice now? Because if not could I go back to what I was born for?” Songpaw asked.
“What” Whiteflower looked puzzled “You mean you want to become a herbcat? Are you sure? I mean you must do battle training, hunting techniques, and training about herbs and plants.”
“Yes. I am sure this is what I want to do with my life. I know this is what I want. When Pine, I mean Pinefur, told me stories of wild cats that live in the woods and follow a code to keep the order but my favorite part of the stories were the herbcats. How kind and sweet they all were. He told me when he wasn’t going to come with me to tell you he still loves you. What is that all about?” Songpaw asked.
“Yes. The answer is very simple I am his sister. But that was your favorite thing in the stories? Well that is great and if that is what you really want then I will go talk to Rosestar.” Whiteflower explained “Come on.” She waved her tail as she walked out of the den.
Chapter 7
“So you want to be a herbcat?” Rosestar meowed.
“Yes, I am sure that this is what I want to do with my life. I want to do what I was destined for before my father and I left the clan. If I said I wanted to become an herb cat then I want to become an herb cat. It doesn’t matter if I don’t remember saying it I still said it. And when I say something I stick to it” Songpaw replied.
“Then we better go into the clearing and give you a new naming ceremony, but I have one more question for you. Have you told Ivytail that you want to become an herb cat yet?” Rosestar asked.
“Well not exactly, we wanted to make sure that this was okay with you before we told any other cat; including Ivytail. But now that it is okay with you I will go tell her but I know you are leading the sun high patrol, and I was wondering if Ivytail and I could come before the ceremony. You know one more patrol as a warrior apprentice, if that is okay with you?” Songpaw explained.
“Is that okay with you Whiteflower?” Rosestar meowed to the fluffy white cat.
“Of course. But I think we should have the ceremony at sun down, because my final naming ceremony at the starpool was at dawn. So I figured sun rise and sun set. It would create a good metaphor for Songpaw to remember.” Whiteflower replied.
“That is fine with me and you Songpaw? If it is fine with you then I will see you at sun high for the patrol.” Rosestar turned from herbcat to her future apprentice.
“I am fine with the time and thank you Rosestar. I was born to this clan then taken away then returned. And now you are going to trust me with the health of your clan. And for that I thank you.” Songpaw replied.
“Okay then I will see you soon now you must go talk with Ivytail.” Rosestar reminded her.
