called Azure, as it is the strange color of my eyes and the color I can most easily change into.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean that I can change my now orange-brown color to Azure easier than any other color except for white.”
“That is quite strange, but beautiful at the same time. If I could change my hair color, I would change it to aqua. I hate my flat, pale blonde. You can never really do anything with it. Azure also happens to be one of my favorite colors. I often painted with all different shades and hues of blue when I was a student, but I mostly used aqua and azure. My teachers thought that they were weak colors, but I saw them as strong because of this. They add the most beautiful pop of color to anything anywhere. Azure looks beautiful on a rose. It makes the shadows more pronounced and creates an illusion of delicacy. I’m sorry. I’m babbling aren’t I?”
“Not at all. You haven’t spoken in so long that I would think that you have lost the ability to speak if you didn’t talk as much. But, you do know that you can indeed change your hair color anytime that you want to right?”
“WHAT! No, I cannot change my hair color,” Alice scoffed “If I could I would’ve felt something wouldn’t I?”
“But you already have. Haven’t you felt the need for color when there was none? Where there was color everywhere, didn’t you feel more alive? All of these are the feelings you get when you come from this, our Unnamed Land. Here dwell all of those who feel misunderstood, abandoned, lonely, insecure, and unsafe in the confusion and drabness of the Named Lands.”
“But why couldn’t I change my hair color before, then? Why are you lands unnamed and who said that I feel abandoned?”
“You did,” said the tiger “You said so when you followed creatures of our kind down the rabbit hole, or did somebody, just out of nowhere, push you down? I do not think that you were pushed because those forests are not seen by any mortal soul. Am I correct in stating this?”
“Alright then!” shouted Alice “I was abandoned by my mother when I was three years old and I wanted to find her, so I ran away.” Alice came to this realization too late it seems, for right then a beautiful, tall, pale elf stepped out of the forest, walked right up to Alice and said:
“I never left you. Your aunt was jealous of your beauty and intelligence, everything that her own children didn’t have. Ever since you were a newborn babe, you could walk, speak, write. And within your first few hours of life, your long, beautiful hair already dragged along the floors of our palace. Then, when you were but two years old, your aunt stole you from us, took you to the Named Lands, and left you there, all alone, cold, without pity. Your father and I loved you more than we could say. We scoured the land after we found your bed empty, but when one of our spies told us that your aunt had taken you to the Named Lands, our hearts were plunged into deep sorrow and fear for your life. It is there, where we elves cannot go. If we step our feet there, we will burn into a pile of ash, for then we will have broken an ancient, ever binding vow that could end the world as we know it. None of the elves that hold the throne may enter the Named Lands, but all others can. That is why we sent the creatures after you, even Azure who had been held for you while we awaited your return. We are glad to have found you at last.”
“if you are my mother, then why do I remember nothing of you, only my supposed aunt, who looks nothing like you? If you had all of these creatures at your grasp, why did you not come for me sooner? I was alone most of the time, while I was at the boarding school.”
“We did not come because your journeys were never complete. Every time that you ran away, it was because you heard our calls for you. Although they may go to the Named Lands, our creatures are bound to that forest. Come, let us go and rest, Phyrra.”
“I believe you are mistaken, my name is Alice, not Phyrra.”
“Alice is the name your aunt gave you, but by birth, you are Phyrra.”
“Just as well. Phyrra kind of reminds me of sapphire, my favorite gem.”
“The sapphire is your birth stone, but come, you must rest my child. We may always speak later.”
After a few estimated miles, they arrived, hand in hand, in Eliria, the Elven capital city. The city where Phyrra’s mother was queen, and Phyrra: princess.

Chapter 2
When they arrived in Eliria, they were greeted by crows larger than London. When they finally reached the palace. It was dusk, and a great banquet was being prepared: to celebrate the return of their princess.
“Why did all of those people come to the gates to greet us? It was as if I were some super special person coming home for the first time in 11 years,” said Phyrra.
“Because you are special. You are their Princess. When your father and I die, you will become queen. If you do not, you must choose one of your sisters. Never accept anything from them. It is elven tradition to be competitive and as the eldest always takes the throne, they will try to kill everybody that is older so that if you choose not to rule, their chances will be higher than the others’.”
“Well, my family is completely insane, but what can we do about it?”
“True. But now you must rest. You will be very busy tonight at the banquet. You must meet your family.” Soon after, Phyrra fell into a deep sleep full of wonderous dreams. She woke when she heard a loud, shrill scream, only to see a large congregation of cats surrounding her. Confused, now, more than ever, Alice tried to reach into her mind to call her mother, only to find that a few seconds later, she appeared in the doorway.
“Oh, good. I see you’re awake. These are your many, as you can see, cats. You had a deep fondness for them when you were younger. They were kept here while you were in the Named Lands.”
“They’re all mine? This is wonderful! I couldn’t even think of imaging my life without cats in them!”
“Good. Otherwise we would leave right now and not look back. My name is Aria. I’m Azure’s older sister. She tried to keep us from coming in, thinking we were going to kill you when Byrn scratched a maid, and she got hurt.” At hearing these news, Phyrra jumped out of bed, put on a robe, and ran to the infirmary where vets were taking care of Azure. When she found Azure with one of her paws in a bandage, she exclaimed “What happened to her?!” She was surprised to hear Aria reply.
“Byrn can breathe fire. Her great- grandmother was a dragon. It was only a minor burn, her fur was only singed, and her paw will be alright in a few hours; otherwise Byrn wouldn’t be here.”
“Oh, thank God!” After that night, Phyrra never left Azure’s side, except when absolutely necessary. Azure was able to join them then for a few hours of the banquet. Phyrra,, however, had almost no time for her as she was whisked off to the dance floor by every brother, uncle, and cousin. And when she wasn’t dancing, she was being introduced to and being hugged and complimented my every single sister, aunt, and cousin. She honestly found this boring after a while and eventually sneaked off into her room with Azure right at her heels.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t spend a lot of time with you tonight.”
“Honestly, I didn’t even notice. I was sleeping under the table for nearly the whole time,” laughed Azure, who had changed her colors to indigo blue and white to match Phyrra’s gown.
A few hours later, they fell asleep. The next morning, Phyrra went to play in the field with her cats(not all of the cats are small domestic some are big cats.). They had a lot of fun getting to know each other and playing games like tag and hide- and- go- seek.
After a splendid lunch of tomato and basil soup, Phyrra spent the afternoon with her mother painting and taking care of the immense flower beds covered in sweet honeysuckle, violets, and the most beautiful red roses.
Just before supper, her mother called Phyrra aside and said to her,
“Phyrra, you do understand that as princess and future queen of your people, you have certain duties to fulfill, right?”
“Yes, I do understand that, but what does that have anything to do with this?”
“In a few moments, you will understand why I brought up this specific topic of conversation.”
As they walked into the dining room, Phyrra saw a familiar face.
“Thomas!”
“Actually Phyrra, its Kai.”
“Phyrra, I need you not to scream when I tell you this, ok?”
“Ok, but why would I scream?”
“You are betrothed to Kai.”
Despite being told this, Phyrra was true to her word and didn’t scream. But her mother didn’t make her promise not to faint. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Kai, and she jumped and screamed. When she sat up, she thought he was too close so she tried to push him away, but it didn’t work the slightest bit, so she just slapped him.
“OUCH!!! What was that for?!”
“I thought you were too close. I tried to push you away but that didn’t work so I tried the hard way.”
“A simple ‘Can you please move?’ would’ve worked fine.”
“My mouth wasn’t working.”
“Well I can fix that.” And as he kissed her, she felt a full display of fireworks blow up in her head. When he pulled away, she was sad to have that moment end.
“Better now?”
“I didn’t say that my mouth needed fixing but, yes. Much better.”
Phyrra spent the next
