charging first. This caught Nick off-guard, but he was able to deflect the amateur's strike. Zane had glanced around for any of Nick’s wolves but didn’t see any of them. Knowing this, he went in for an attack, being deflected with ease. Nick, meanwhile, closed the distance and caught Zane off-guard, slashing downward. However, Zane used his Ark Light to temporarily blind Nick. Using this moment to his advantage, he charged forward and landed a blow. Nick was pushed backward, but he hadn’t fallen yet. He was still standing solidly. However, this move was enough to gain Nick’s praise.

“Not bad, I can already see the potential in you. You did good for a novice swordsman, but you forget one important detail.” Nick told him.

“Forget what?” Zane asked, puzzled. That’s when Alpha tackled him to the ground and pinned him. Zane hadn’t sensed Alpha’s presence even when he searched for him. However, unbeknownst to him, Alpha wasn’t summoned until after Zane used his Ark Light. The moment of confusion that led to Zane landing a blow was when Alpha was summoned, flanking him.

“I admit that I’m impressed. It’s a draw then?” Nick asked.

Zane nodded, fighting Alpha off him. He was being given many kisses by Alpha.

“Your skills are good for a simple textbook duel, but I doubt that in a real fight, you would’ve won. Anyways, let’s first see if you can survive my two-week course before you could even think about fighting real battles. That’s if you’re prepared to undergo the training?”

Zane nodded his head. “I’m ready for whatever you throw at me.”

Nick laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling. He covered his face with his hands. “It’s almost time for me to leave. I can’t afford to stay here longer than I already have. However…” His voice trailed off. “I need to train those kids before I leave. If I don’t, then they will die a dog’s death. I… can’t let people from her race die off like that. Stacy would hate me if I let them die.”

He took his hands off his face and stared up at the heart on the ceiling. It read “Nick+Stacy” on it. It was handwritten by Stacy while they were dating.

“That Zane kid is the one I’m worried about the most. His skills are more of a supporting character than a hero like her or his friends. He’s going to suffer a fate worse than death without being able to fight. He needs to learn how to survive.” His rambling was then interrupted by somebody knocking on his door. He wasn’t sure who it was, but a familiar voice called out to him.

Episode Five "Goodbye"

Two weeks had passed since Zane and Nick’s quick spar. Since then, Nick pounded the basics into the teens, but he could only teach them how to wield a sword. Fortunately for them, Hailey---the receptionist at the adventurers’ guild---had contacted two retired adventurers and asked them to train the teenagers. The adventurers jumped out of their retirement for a short while to help Nick with training.

Grims, a retired rank B adventurer, was proficient at scythes and chains while the other retired rank B adventurer---Lane---was known as Tanri’s best assassin. His arsenal consisted of throwing knives, stars, daggers, nunchucks, and every weapon that could torture people. His sanity was in question, but he was a good teacher for Macy who had the perfect skills for an assassin. Mike was handed off to Grims and taught how to use a scythe and chains during the two weeks.

Meanwhile, Nick taught Zane how to use a sword for the two-week duration. Only the basics were taught, but it was enough to satisfy Nick. As long as they could survive in the cruel world of Astriocal, Nick was happy. He only wanted them to get a chance at life.

After the two weeks were up, the final test was implemented. The test was a three-on-three battle; students against teachers. The teenagers were allowed to pick the weapon they were more skilled at for the final test----magic was also allowed. Mike went along with a scythe, Macy chose a dagger, and Zane chose a double-edged slightly-curved sword. With their weapons chosen, it was now time for them to complete their final test and master the basics.

The test wasn’t just important for the teenagers, but Nick. If they passed, it would be a breath of first air for them. They would evolve from caterpillars to butterflies.

The test started immediately. The teenagers charged forward first, catching their teachers off-guard. The teenagers were working together. Macy turned invisible and sent to flank her teacher while Mike and Zane attacked Grims. Grims retaliated by swinging his chain around and striking at them. However, Mike used his Creation: Fire to burn the chains as Zane pushed forward, activating Ark Light and temporarily blinding Grims. Mike closely followed behind Zane, both attacking Grims and taking him out. With one teacher out of the way, they set their sights on Nick.

Meanwhile, Macy tried to flank her teacher but he had caught her scent and figured her location out. He revealed her quickly, slashing at her with his dagger. Macy parried the attack and slashed at Lane. Unfortunately, he dodged the attack and sliced her. She stumbled backward, glancing at her friends. They took down Grims and were moving towards Nick.

“I didn’t want to do this,” She whispered, activating a third skill that nobody knew of. Neither Mike nor Zane knew of her third skill, something that she hid due to its malicious intent. Corruption was her third skill. As the name implied, Macy could corrupt anybody by merely touching her. After reading the skill’s description, she had decided to hide its existence.

She activated Corruption, charging towards him. Lane recognized the scent of Corruption, stopping her attack by giving up. He didn’t want Macy---who barely trained the deadly skill---to use it on him. He would rather lose his dignity than his life.

Macy deactivated Corruption and headed towards Nick. As she started towards him, Lane whispered in her ear. “Train the skill in secret and use it only for emergencies. That skill can kill people, don’t forget that.” He then disappeared, turning up some distance away from the fight.

Now all three of them were attacking Nick. By the time Macy joined the fight, Mike and Zane forced Nick to release his wolves. His wolves attacked the teenagers, but they were able to fend them off. However, they didn’t realize that the wolves weren’t using their maximum power. Nick barred the use of their elements.

Nick forced all wolves to retreat, pushing the attention onto himself. He didn’t want his wolves to be accidentally wounded so he decided to take the attacks. He didn’t realize that the teenagers had a plan. Macy turned invisible as Mike activated Brute Force. Zane charged in first, flashing Nick with Ark Light as Mike barreled towards him. They made contact, pushing Nick backward. Behind him stood Macy, slicing at his back. Nick wasn’t able to parry his attacks, summoning his wolves to flank them. Somehow the wolves looked different. They were evolved.

The wolves surrounded the teenagers and pinned them to the ground, ending the battle.

Mike glanced at the wolves and noticed a change in them. “These aren’t Nick’s!” He shouted, panicking.

“Yes, they are. They evolved from being Diamondrock Wolves to Shadow Wolves.” Nick rebutted.

Really? Why did they evolve?” Zane asked, tilting his head.

“They adapt to their environment. Since they live in my shadow, they evolved to fit in the environment.” Nick explained.

“Well, looks we failed,” Macy interrupted.

“Nope, you guys were able to defeat two rank B adventurers on your own. They are very strong beings in this world. I would consider that as you guys passing. If anything, the only reason you didn’t defeat me was that I have five wolves at my side---which is very rare in this world. Most tamers can only have one or two beasts.” Nick explained. “Today is a day for partying, but it's also the day that I will be cutting short.” He started. “I’m leaving today.”

“Wait, you’re leaving?” Zane asked.

“Why now?” Macy asked. Mike was shocked, speechless.

“I’ve been here for too long. That dragon is still out there alive. If I want to die without regrets, then that dragon must die.” Nick calmly stated. The three weren’t able to argue with him. They knew that killing Saturn would prove him with some relief, even if it was a small amount. They couldn’t argue against his revenge pathway.

With one declaration of his departure, Nick was gone in a flash. Everybody who knew him, knew of him leaving. Only Zane, Mike, and Macy didn’t know. Nobody gave him any parting words as he left the town silently, disappearing into the darkness. None of the teenagers gave him any thanks. How they would regret not thanking their savior. How they would soon learn to regret that.

Hello All!

This episode marks the finale of season one. The Three Otherworldly Heroes (TTOH) has been renewed for two more seasons, one arriving next year as part of The Underground Tales (TUT). Season three’s release date is unknown, but expect it before 2024.

If anybody’s wondering: Nick will reappear but he won’t show up in season two or three. He will reappear further down the line since the upcoming seasons will expand on the otherworlders. I want to focus on the main teens, instead of other side characters like Nick, Hailey, or the other adventurers.

For anybody wondering, TTOH premiered on Tales of Supernatural Events and Solo Series before being picked up by TUT and being given a remaster/continuation. Every new season will be under TUT.

Until next time, I bid you all a good day.
