Janus, Part II
I punched him, so hard that his clipboard went flying and hit the ar wall. “Are you people insane? Murderers? Or just plain abusive? I don’t need help, with anything. Why did my father even send me here? You people aren’t going to help me. Is this a mental asylum? Is my father trying to kill me? Why is he trying to make me just like my brother?” I was shouting and I wanted to curl up into a ball and cry my whole life away. I would drown in my tears. He walked over, picked up the clipboard, and walked out of the door. I heard the lock snap, I was locked in. “We will start the hallucination gas now. Remember, this isn’t real, and you should be just fine.” Doctor Cassandra was speaking to me. The room started to fill with smoke, I was even more afraid now. What would happen in my hallucinations, will they be scary or bad?
In my hallucination there were these little creatures that were scattering about my home. I was back home, my father wasn’t there. None of my family was there, I started to wander about the house and found that my room was redone to be perfectly white with no decorations or wallpaper. I walked back down the staircase and my father was there. He had his back turned to me, this was a hallucination though. It wasn’t real. I blinked back into the real world, William was right over me. He spoke, but I couldn’t hear him over the ringing in my ears. I tried to speak, but nothing came out of my mouth. He was talking with a few other people over in the corner of the room, I tried to listen to what they were saying and it didn’t work. “Hello?” I said, my voice sounded scratchy and hoarse. “We are filing your results currently, we would like you to just rest currently though.” “NO! I need to train, my choosing ceremony is in… um… I don’t know what day it is. How long have I been here?” I was sounding back to normal but still felt very sick on the inside of my upper chest. My rib cage hurt too, why?
“This will help the royals of casting know what you will be chosen as. These tests are you’re choosing ceremony. You will be decided using the newest technology out there. We will send you through a very long series of tests and then send all results to you parent/guardian and to the royals of casting. If the royals are not viewing them, than the highest positions under the royals will choose for them. Every Time a test is inconclusive you will have to take a different test to stand in its place. Judging by what I saw, that test exposed a weakness, proving you are not the strongest. It also shows that you are curious because you explored your house instead of dealing with the shadow creatures first thing. It also shows massive inconclusiveness because you didn’t experience any challenges or fights within your very short simulation, you may need more than just the standard set of tests to work with.” Doctor Cassandra broke away from the crowd and spoke this time. I didn’t realize that this was the choosing ceremony, that might be why nobody ever talks about exactly what happened during theirs.
I was injected with bright yellow goop, right into my lower thigh. I fell into another hallucination, I was in the ocean. I wasn’t wet though, a ship sailed by and let me get onto it. There were very many people on the boat. I was cold so they gave me a blanket, I was afraid of being all alone. But I couldn’t let that show so I stood and wandered around the boat. The captain was a very strange man who reminded me of William at the testing facility. He stared at me, I wanted to kill him but I fought the urge. I was respectful and nice to the other passengers on the boat. I fell asleep on a lawn chair and I woke up in the testing facility.
“You are a coward, respectful, and strong all at the same time. These results conflict with the last results. You are a very special girl, you’ll need other help from a different department tomorrow. You need stronger tests.” William was speaking to me, he was saying that I was inconclusive but in a respectful way. Why did I keep getting inconclusive? They put me on a rolling cart and rolled me into a room that was four floors lower than the last room. I don’t remember much of what else happened, but I remember my father coming back to pick me up what seemed about three months, but it couldn’t have been that long. “Hello darling, hop in the back. We need to rush back home, you’re big brother is coming back in three days and we need to get the house prepared for his arrival.” My fathers words before he picked me up in a hug and carried me to the car.
JulianneI walked down to Janus’ house, she wasn’t home. I walked down the next day, she wasn’t home. I walked down the next day, her car wasn’t in the driveway so I waited and waited until her car came cruising down the road. I waved in the general direction of the car it was moving a little bit too fast to quite catch up with it. They turned into the driveway and Janus immediately hopped out and ran over to the door. She flung it open with a gust of wind and went running into the darkness of the house. “Sorry about my delinquent daughter, shes a bit upset currently. You may come in though, help us get the house ready.” Her father stepped out of the car and said to me as he grabbed my back with one hand and pulled me inside the house. He licked the lights on and Janus came walking downstairs carrying a large box full of items such as streamers, balloons, party hats, etc. “Why are you all decorating?” “Well, you see, my biggest most amazing brother is coming home in… How many days left father.” She said placing the box down on the counter and giving me a high five to say hello.
“Thats exciting, I didn’t know that you had another older brother.” I said, looking through the box. This must have been a very special experience for Janus and for the rest of her family. She turned her head and looked at me with a friendly smile. She started to take stuff out and hang up a poster of pin the tail on the donkey. “Honey, slow down. We can’t be hasty with this, we need to start out with little things. And, are you sure that he will like that? Oh, I got his reply letter back if you would like to read it. You really shouldn’t though, you’re friend is here and she wants to help you.” Her father was so sophisticated and mature, he is still upset that his wife died. She grabbed the envelope and tore it open throwing the little scraps of paper all over the floor. She didn’t read it aloud but I could tell why she didn’t. That letter had some bad news on it. “Bye, see you tomorrow. I can’t play right now, I have to set up and clean and… well you get it.” She waved bye right after she finished the letter, with tears starting to form in her eyes. A few days later I walked down again and Janus opened the door very slowly. She peeped her head out just a tiny bit from the side of the door and pulled me in very quickly.
“My brother is coming in half an hour. My dad just called, he’s out picking him up.” Janus whispered as she pulled me into the kitchen and knelt down. “I should probably get going than.” I tried to stand but she grabbed my arm and pulled me back down and whispered something that I couldn’t understand. I heard a car door close and Janus stood to peek out the window, as she stood up she shoved me a little and I lost my balance. I heard a key get inserted into the lock and Janus ran over and pulled me up then dragged me over to the couch. The couch looked like it used to be facing a T.V that was mounted on the wall, but it wasn’t there anymore as far as I could tell. The door swung open and I saw Janus spring up and turn her head back towards the door. Her father stepped in and waved Janus over. “Come darling, your brother needs to be wheeled into the house in his wheelchair. Let me set up the ramp while you go open the car door for him and help him step outside. Her father put two planks over the steps, creating a makeshift ramp.
“HI! HI! YOU’RE FINALLY HOME, I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!” Janus screamed so loud the you could hear at the school while she was sprinting towards the car. She gave a man a hug, he was buff and tall. She held his hand to help him get out of the car and swung around to the opened trunk to receive his wheelchair. How could somebody as tall and large as him need a wheelchair? “Hi Julianne, this is my son Samuel. In recent years he has liked to be called Sam. He has some issues, he is just returning from the powers mental institute.”
