Gabe update
Gabe is now 3 and ½ yrs. Old. He has been enjoying the unsheltered life. He has had fun and is not looking forward to going back to a sheltered life.
Chapter 30 The Run
Chapter 30 The Run
Jonas is doing the very last minute packing, packing the last of his clothes and hover-board and the video camera that he got. He is also taking a bike with a engine, and a small bike with a seatbelt on the back of it so Gabe can see things instead of Jonas’s back and things directly above.
Tomorrow morning (10-23-2050) around 1:00 am. Jonas will take Gabe and his things and head home. He is hoping no one will be up at that hour of the day so that he will not get caught running home.
The day is 10-23-2050, 12:45 am. Jonas is getting everything on the bike that he will be using for transport. He is tying everything down as tight as possible. He is gathering food to last for 5 days. He has his bow, arrows, 20 gal. Of gas for the bikes motor, a fire kit with a knife to cut wood, and plenty of wood.
It is 1:00 am. Jonas has Gabe on the bike and is ready to go. Then he has a thought, What if the town I came from isn’t there anymore? What will he do? He takes the risk of having to motor down there and pedal back, because the town is gone.
Jonas pedals out of town so no one will here the motor on the bike. Jonas attempts to start the bike, and it will not start! He tries ten more times and finally it starts, Whew. Jonas is planning to travel through the night and day for 3 days. He makes it to the second day and can’t stay awake, but he is glad he has a motor to move the bike forward.
Jonas gets the bike into tall grass by trees and grabs Gabe. They go to sleep and loose a day of travel. Once Jonas wakes up he gets out his bow and arrows. He decides to make the bow and arrow into a fishing harpoon. Jonas catches 3 fish. He gets Gabe awake and cooks the fish. They eat some, and Jonas packs the rest away for the journey. Gabe on the bike and gets back on the road. He travels for 3 more days sleeping for a few hours at night. He knows he has to be close to where home was. He turns off the engine and gets the last gas tank out and sees that it is empty. He will have to pedal the rest of the way.
Jonas pedals for 10 more days. He finally starts to see the things he saw when he left home. The paved road, the houses begin to come back also. Jonas and Gabe do not travel for 3 days. Jonas is planning to get back to his dwelling in the next 5 days of travel.
He is not planning to stop for anything but to eat. Gabe is wishing he could’ve stayed at the 3rd world. Jonas and Gabe stop to eat 2 times. Jonas knows he has to be closer than ever to where home should be.
Jonas is starting to get his memories back! Then later that day he gets the colors back. Jonas is so exited! It is now almost winter. Jonas is feeling the fact that he is almost home.
Then Jonas stops, thinking who should he see first? His parents or the Giver? He pushes those aside, to think later. The next day Gabe says, “Worker, Worker.” Jonas begins to see the landscapers also. He stops and picks up Gabe and hugs him and says “We are almost home! I am so glad.”
Jonas pedals hard, and harder, and harder still, until…

Chapter 31 Coming back to Home
Jonas decides to go to the Annex building first. He sees that there is no bell, no button, no anything but the door opened all by it self!? He was rather frightened that it moved all by itself. He goes into the Givers room, and sees the Giver that gave all of the memories to Jonas.
The Giver says “Why didn’t you at least tell me that you were not leaving according to plan? I was not ready to have to deal with everyone wondering what all of the pain was, and why it wouldn’t go away! Why Jonas Why?”
Jonas tells him the whole thing, Gabe was going to be released and he didn’t want that to happen, so he just rode, and rode, and rode, and finally ended up riding a sled into the 3rd world!
The Giver forgives Jonas as Jonas shows him the camera, the pictures, the hover-board, and the bow and arrow, and everything els he brought back from the 3rd world. The Giver is happy that Gabe got to live. The Giver goes on to say “Jonas, I’m happy Gabe can live a full life now, We decided that he would be given his life if you ever came back. I’m proud of you Jonas, and Gabe too!”
Jonas goes to see his parents. They are so happy they are crying, Crying and wouldn’t stop. Jonas finally calms them down and shows them everything he brought back, including pictures of actual animals! Jonas goes on to be the Receiver, and Gabe, Gabe, and they are all happy, accept now Jonas must write a letter to his friends he met. Good thing he got a picture of the towns address!
