Read FICTION books online

Reading books fiction Have you ever thought about what fiction is? Probably, such a question may seem surprising: and so everything is clear. Every person throughout his life has to repeatedly create the works he needs for specific purposes - statements, autobiographies, dictations - using not gypsum or clay, not musical notes, not paints, but just a word. At the same time, almost every person will be very surprised if he is told that he thereby created a work of fiction, which is very different from visual art, music and sculpture making. However, everyone understands that a student's essay or dictation is fundamentally different from novels, short stories, news that are created by professional writers. In the works of professionals there is the most important difference - excogitation. But, oddly enough, in a school literature course, you don’t realize the full power of fiction. changed Dean’s course in life. He drastically turned from a quiet shy guy to a rebellious bold maniac. All those who teased and bulled him before grew to fear him. He had started selling and taking drugs at a rapid speed that not even his mother understood him anymore. Though he never showed it to her, that he was on drugs and always in drug circles, she suspected it. Like this one night when they were having dinner, she was so eager to prove her suspicion.

“I am hearing stories about you in the neighborhood Dean.” “What kind of stories.”
“That you’re no longer the same, you’re different.”

“That shouldn’t be news to you mother. You have been saying that to me for the past three months.”

His mother broke down and started crying; she let loose of her folk into the plate. Dean immediately got up and embraced her. “What’s wrong mother, what did I do?”

She got up and pulled herself away from him. “Don’t pretend like you even care.”

Dean swung his hands in the air, in disbelief. “Mother, are you for real.”

“Of course I am. What time have you been coming home for the past three months, huh?”

“Late, but at least I come back home.”

Dean’s mother paused, feeling so much pain, she cried silently. Dean looked at her with his eyes growing weary; his lazy standing posture spelled out pity that he felt for her.

She looked up at him and asked calmly, “You’re doing drugs Dean, aren’t you?”

Dean played it off in pretence. “Oh my God mother, where did you get that from?”

He then hugged her, trying to calm her down. He continued, “I can never do that to you mother.”

She kept crying in his arms. That night went by and life continued.

One day Dean got into a fight at school with one of his classmates and he beat him up. So, the next night the boy’s two elder brothers stormed Dean’s home to teach him a lesson or two. The elder brother was a little built while the younger brother was just of a normal size.

At a quarter to mid-night when almost everybody in the neighborhood was asleep and it was all silent and clear, a jeep consisting of the two brothers showed up at Dean’s house. They got off the jeep and walked right to the front door, with the younger brother having a clobber in his hand.

Using the clobber and the screw-driver that the other brother had had in his pocket, they managed to knock loose the door’s locker and got into the house.

They walked into the house, the lights were off, fortunately or unfortunately, Dean was walking downstairs.

“Man, what next?” one of the two brothers whispered.

Dean was taken aback; his face shrunk and his hands started shaking, looking at two strangers in their house. Immediately the two brothers saw him too. The elder one spoke in delight, “Well, well, without further ado, our meat is right here.”

Dean turned and was trying to run back upstairs. “Come back you little prick,” said the elder brother. They caught him before he could get away and immediately started punching and kicking him down onto the stairs. They also beat him with the clobber.

Dean’s mum heard noises and she woke up.

Dean was pushed down by the two brothers and he rolled over the stairs till he was laid on the floor downstairs, holding onto his kicked and punched stomach, in a lot of pain. He gasped for air.

The two brothers followed him downstairs and continued beating him up.

“This is for what you did to our baby brother you moron!” said the younger brother.

Dean’s mum came rushing downstairs. She saw her being beaten. “Leave my son alone you morons,” she cried. She pushed them away and got down to her son. Dean was beaten weak and he could barely move.

The two brothers were just laughing.

“Baby,” Called Dean’s mum, trying to console him; she put his head on her laps and tried to caress his messed up bloody face.

She then, furiously, with tears coming down her eyes, pointed towards the door and told the two brothers to leave. “Get out of my house or I’ll call the police.”

In contempt the two brothers just laughed and the elder one aggressively grabbed her by her arm and strongly pulled her up, leaving Dean’s head hit hard on the floor. “Less give you more reason to call the police ma’am,” said the elder brother as he dragged Dean’s mum onto the stairs.

“Let go of me!” she screamed. And she kept fighting him off, but all was in vain, he was much stronger than her.

He then pressed her hard down onto the stairs on her back.

The younger brother looked frightened and concern: his eyes were dilated and he stuttered. “Jimmy this was not part of our mission.”

“Now it is young bro, now it certainly is!”

The elder brother forcefully pushed his hand under Dean’s mother’s nightdress and tore out her knickers. “Please, don’t do this to me,” she pleaded, while profusely crying. Meanwhile Dean helplessly tried to get up from the floor to free his mum but he couldn’t, he was too weak. He watched as she got raped.

The younger brother, so frightened and nervous, kept guard: he kept looking through the window and telling his brother to make it quick. “Man, you’ve got to make it quick. The neighbors might walk in on us.”

“Relax man, I am done.” The elder brother got off Dean’s mum and tired up his pants. “It’s not like I was having her for the whole night,” he continued, smilingly.

Dean’s mum just sat there on the stairs all curled into herself, trembling tremendously and crying in so much pain.

The two brothers quickly ran out of the house, jumped onto their jeep and sped away.

The injustice done to Dean and his mum was so wrecking that their lives were never the same in that town.

Dean was so haunted by what had happened to his mother in front of his very eyes that he even started having nightmares and sleepless nights over it.

His mother didn’t go to work for two weeks after that horrific night. She hurt every day and was never the same. She became moody and quarrelsome at all times.

One night she and Dean had a fight over that gruesome night. They were in the kitchen. It started calmly but grew intense as they argued.

“There’s no way I can shut up anymore, about what happened to you mother.”

“You won’t tell anybody what happened here that night,” Dean’s mum warned seriously, while pointing straight at him.

“Silence won’t heal the wounds mother, it just won’t!”

“Let me live with the wounds.” She began crying. “There’s no way I am going to lose my dignity when people get to know that some two spoilt kids took advantage of me.”

“It’s an injustice mum, and you deserve justice,” said Dean. “No woman should take such an insult, no matter who they are.”

“Shut up!” screamed Dean’s mum.

“I won’t shut up, I just won’t!” Dean yelled back.

His mother took a deep breath and said calmly, “If you think we can fight and win those rich kids in court, you go right ahead.” As she spoke, she pointed her figure in the air and had her eyes closed, which expressed the pain she felt inside.

She thereafter walked away. Dean was left so angry that he took the glass of water he had in his hand and smashed it onto the floor.

“Damn those bastards!” he screamed.

Life continued. Dean let it go for a week but that gruesome night’s
‘demons’ kept haunting him.

One night while seated in his room thinking hard, the tears that started to drip from his eyes got him in definite action. He grabbed his jacket from the hook, walked out of his bedroom while putting it on and rushed downstairs looking focused.

His mother was seated in the living-room watching TV. She heard him run downstairs and came out to see what was going on. She caught him at the door.

“Where are you going?” she asked.

“You’ll one day thank me for this mother.” Dean walked out of the house leaving his mother worried. She stayed standing in one place looking ‘numb.’

That night Dean went to the police and filed a report against those guys that invaded their house and did human damage to him and his mother. The next day his mum was called in too, she obliged and said it all as it went down that night. Then, a case was opened at the District Attorney’s office against the two brothers, and soon it was all in court.

Day one in court: In the court hallway: Tensions were high: Dean’s mum was so frightened, she was trembling. For Dean, he was so anxious for what was to come; he looked nervous but ready too. His hands were held tight and a bit shaky, but he spoke boldly. They were standing with their lawyer, a chubby, tall and easy looking fellow putting on glasses.

“I’ll take the stand,” said Dean.

“But miss Johnson, you will have to come on much later,” said their lawyer, “We have to let the defendants first take the stand, maybe that way it will help us get what to walk with more clearly, in order to catch them against their testimonies later.”

At that moment the brothers who had broken into Dean’s house with their parents and their younger brother whom Dean had beaten at school passed by them and the two elder brothers kept smiling mockingly at Dean’s mother. Dean saw it and he reacted. “…Those bastards!” He tried to push his way forward to confront them but his lawyer stopped him. “That wouldn’t be good for our defense right now.”

Few minutes later the court session began. The defendants’ lawyer was a tall, smart and neat looking guy. And the judge was an elderly skinny guy, serious looking and well composed.

As planned, Dean took the stand first. His lawyer ran him down with the questioning first.

“Mr. Dean Chapman, that night that these two gentlemen broke into your house…”

The defendants’ lawyer objected to that. “Objection your honor, it is alleged entry.”

“Objection overruled, go on counselor,” replied the judge.

“Thank you your honor. As I was saying, that night Mr. Chapman, are those gentlemen seated right there the same people you saw break into your house.”

“Yes, it’s them!” Dean pointed at the two brothers angrily with no fear or hesitation. For the relaxed two brothers, they seemed
