“Why didn’t you reinforce it the entire way?” Jacob asked.
“The process is a little different beyond the first cap. It will be more expensive as well, give me a moment,” Fenris said, gathering the [Dull Sparks] into a specific arrangement around the glowing metal of the [Mace].

Jacob’s jaw hung open as he watched the Fire Oppa work his magic. Leaping white-hot fire surged through the Pyre and was infused within the metal of the [Mace].
All vestiges of use and wear were stripped away. The metal practically glowed with vitality and power. There was a brief pang of loss as he realized just how much stronger his [Mace +10] was now over his [Longsword].
Unless the creature flat-out resisted blunt based damage, he would never have a reason to use his [Longsword] again. Not until he either upgraded his [Longsword] or similarly found a better weapon.
Only then did he remember that Alec reminded him about a cul-de-sac in Hollow Dreams that might have something for him there. So much had happened that it had entirely slipped his mind.
Even though his [Mace +10] was more than 3 times stronger than his [Longsword], his 76 Sword Skill helped to close the gap. His Mace Skill, in contrast, was barely 26. Somewhere around the low 20’s it stopped increasing as fast.
And despite the hefty investment of Souls, sparks, and time, his Stamina drain while using a sword was still slightly less. That wasn’t so much of a disappointment as a surprise.
A decade of studying and practicing with a sword had given him an incredible advantage beyond just his knowledge of Pyresouls Online. That he could - within two weeks - have a weapon that he was poorly skilled with equaling his the Stamina drain of his sword was astounding.
It made him wonder how much his [Longsword] would benefit from hitting +10.
“Do you have the items for the Ascension?” Fenris asked, pulling Jacob from his thoughts.
“Oh, yes. Sorry. Here you go,” Jacob said, taking out the [Minos Horn] and the Vile Priest’s Soul.
The [Soul of a Devout Priest] squirmed and shimmered, the dark tear at its core writhed as the Fire Oppa lashed it with shimmering flames from the Pyre. The Soul was chained, bound within the twirling confines of the Pyre’s flames, and slowly dragged into the mace that rested at its heart.
As the Fire Oppa drew the Soul deeper into the mace, the [Minos Horn] began to crumble to ash. Motes of purple magical essence floated toward the Fire Oppa. Jacob didn’t understand what it was for until he saw the effect the Vile Priest’s Soul had on the weapon.
The steel mace bulged and shifted weirdly in a way that no solid thing should be able to. It contorted like a tortured thing. Cracks of light in the metal bled shimmering green that began to draw heat from the Pyre.
For the first time since returning to Lormar, Jacob watched as the Pyre began to flicker as if in a high wind. Unconcerned, the Fire Oppa drew on the purple motes from the [Minos Horn] and sealed the cracks in the weapon.
Every time another appeared, more of the horn broke down into ash and its essence healed the weapon. The Pyre fought against the transformative power of the Soul. When it was over, the core of the Pyre burned so hotly that it was like staring at the sun.
Averting his eyes, Jacob blinked to rid himself of the afterimage.
“It’s done,” Fenris said. “Reach into the Pyre and claim it.”
Jacob leaned in and without looking at the blazing brilliance of the Pyre, wrapped his fingers around the weapon’s handle. It felt different.
Lifting it out, metal still glowing like it was freshly removed from the forge, Jacob could see why. It was an entirely different weapon. Instead of a simple leather-wrapped handle and a steel flanged head, it was a work of art.
Grotesque, tentacle-themed art, but beautiful in its own dark way. The handle was long, made of black metal shot through with green threads. From the top of the mace’s head erupted several thick tentacles that flowed over the side and halfway down the handle.
They looked remarkably life-like, enough that Jacob was surprised when they didn’t move after staring at it for several seconds. Once he was sure it wasn’t going to start moving on him, he examined it further.
[Vile Mace]
Weapon created from the [Soul of a Devout Priest] belonging to the Vile Covenant. Within that Soul was the transformative power of the Great Old One, the patron of the Vile Covenant. Those transformative properties have been transferred in part to this weapon, imbuing it with the destructive power of its corruptive origin.

His grumbling brought a curious glance from Camilla who seemed to be watching him with a look of concern. “I need to
