with the break in and attack, despite suggestions to the contrary by the police officer who had come to visit shortly after the shootings. And, of course, the gun's serial number had been easily traced back to Edgar, who had reported it missing after the break in and attack. But the question as to who took the gun and how Aaron had come into its possession was a mystery that haunted Edgar and he couldn't help but feel a little guilty over Aaron's death, simply because it had been his gun. Still, there had been other incidents of violence besides Aaron's death and the attack on Edgar.

“It's not just the gun,” Edgar said, almost to himself. “Remember the boulder that almost killed us at the beach? And what about the attempted arson next door?”

Jack was silent and, for once, seemed at a loss for words.

“Jack, what happens if someone hurts you? Or, god forbid, decides to hurt Ollie?”

The dachshund, who had been content to remain on the sofa, seemed to understand this and jumped down and retreated behind Jack.

“Let's not forget,” he concluded, retaking his seat on the sofa, “we may have lost a neighbor and ally in our fight against Converse but Dane lost his brother. . . can you imagine how he must feel?”

“No,” agreed Jack. “No, I can't.”

Although he didn't want to say it, there was another element at play on Eldon Court that had been bothering him for awhile, and that was the rampant promiscuity among his neighbors. It was no wonder that they as a neighborhood were falling apart, being torn asunder by lies and deceit, not by any outside forces, but from within. This wasn't anything he wanted to say aloud, however, for fear that he would sound like an old curmudgeon. It was as if Jack read his mind.

“Maybe this recent turn of events will make us all closer,” he offered.

Edgar sighed and shrugged his shoulders.

“Sometimes I wonder if the youngsters here on Eldon Court even want to make things work,” he said, “the way they use each other and lie to their partners.”

Well, there, thought Edgar, I said it.

Jack smiled and took Edgar's hands in his.

“They're kids,” he said. “And don't tell me you're turning into one of those judgmental types about morality. . . I know you better than that.”

Edgar laughed, the first time he had laughed aloud in at least three days.

“I know,” he agreed. “But, Jack, people look down on us gays anyway. Why give them another excuse to hate us? They see us jumping from bed to bed with no regard for who we hurt in the process and it makes it easier to look down on us.”

“I don't know what you've been doing,” teased Jack, “but I haven't been jumping from bed to bed. Not for a few years now.”

“I don't mean us. Ha, the stabilizing force of Eldon Court,” said Edgar. “I mean. . .”

“I know what you mean,” replied Jack. “You mean that you'd rather we be seen as gay without the world nosing into our sex lives.”

“Exactly,” said Edgar, “and I don't think our young friends and neighbors seem to understand that their actions have a greater impact on the way we're viewed by the world. And, particularly now. . . here. . . we've torn ourselves apart from the inside.”

“Eddy,” replied Jack, “we were once young and promiscuous. . . judging them that way is unfair. Do I disagree with all of the lies and cheating and house-hopping that's been going on around here? Of course. . . but we can't blame youthful lust for what's been happening here in Wonderland.”

Edgar bowed his head and exhaled loudly.

“I know,” he relented. “It just seems like, when what we need is to present a united front, it turns out we can't even trust one another.”

“You can trust me,” replied Jack. He squeezed Edgar's hands.

“Promise?” asked Edgar, smiling.

“I know what will make you feel better.”

Edgar looked up into the mischievous face of his partner and couldn't help but feel a stirring in his slacks. For a brief second he thought of declining, thought that he was in no mood for sex, but he knew there was no escaping Jack's seduction. The growing erection in his pants seemed to punctuate this point and he sat back on the sofa and tugged at Jack's jeans.

“What did you have in mind?” he asked.

Without reply, Jack knelt down in front of his partner and unzipped the fly on Edgar's khakis. Edgar smiled and watched as Jack freed his now stiff cock from the confines of his boxer briefs.

“Have I ever told you that you have an enormous cock?”

“About a million times,” replied Edgar, “but I don't mind.”

Jack smiled at Edgar and then took his swollen cock, swallowing it in one quick motion. Edgar exhaled softly at the warm sensation of Jack's throat on his meat. He could feel his nipples becoming erect despite the heat emanating from the fireplace.

“Oh, yeah,” he whispered, pushing Jack's head further down on his shaft, “suck that dick.”

Jack's head bobbed up and down on Edgar's shaft, occasionally stopping to work on the pulsing head, paying attention to the piss slit, which he licked with abandon, causing Edgar to moan loudly.

“Shit, baby,” moaned Edgar, “that feels so good.”

Jack licked down the side of Edgar's shaft and began licking his balls, which were pulled out of the fly, too. Edgar, now desperate to be free of his clothing, pulled the jersey he was wearing off, exposing a surprisingly fit torso for a man in his mid-forties. Following his partner's suggestion, Jack stood and stripped off his sweat pants and tee-shirt and was suddenly naked, his uncut cock already oozing pre-come. Edgar kicked his pants and underwear to one side and took Jack's stiff fatty into his mouth, lapping up the clear liquid that dripped from the end.

“Oh, Eddy,” he said through heavy breaths.

Edgar sucked on Jack's cock, deep throating the fleshy tool, relishing the smell and taste
