the McClures to turn down the noise or they would confiscate their television and stereo system. They did so, reluctantly, and when the police left, half-hour later, the noise started up again.

Jake wrote in his pad that Justin arrived home every day at 7 pm. No one cared or gave a shit if he was there or not, the mother was always half-dressed with the latest baby hanging off her tit. No one would notice if Justin disappeared. Bonus, Jake thought.

Justin left the house at 8 pm and headed in the direction of the old abandoned quarry. Jake followed and kept his distance. Justin met up with a girl, he recognised her as Lucy Ellis from school. They were in the same year. “Who would have thought of it?” Jake said under his breath. “Crocapigs.” Then giggled to himself. Justin held her close and they walked hand in hand to the quarry.

Jake still kept his distance, watching them making out. Justin had his hand up her skirt, she was groaning with pleasure as she kissed him. Justin pulled down his trackies and they started having sex. Jake took out his writing pad and wrote Lucy’s name next to Justin’s. Jake took no pleasure in watching them, however, seeing them together brought bile up into his mouth. Jake’s watch pinged; it was 9 pm, he had to get home so he called it a night, realising he wasn’t going to get anymore intel tonight. So he made his way home through the cornfield which came out at the bottom of steep hill.

Jake followed Justin over the week taking notes; he met up with the gang every day after school. All together, they headed to the local sweetshop; whilst one of them distracted the shopkeeper, the others stole sweets and pop. Once they had eaten their sweets, they hung out around the park until they were bored. Then they ripped number plates off cars and played knock down ginger on old folk’s doors or threw eggs. If they saw a kid out all alone they would beat them up and steal everything they had on their person.

Justin would leave the group around 6:45 pm and headed home for 7 pm, then met up with Lucy just after 8 pm.

George Bradshaw was a little weasel; he never took the blame for anything, and it was always someone else that got the thick ear. Even at school, he would start the trouble, then take a step back and watched it all kick off. He was an average student, his home life was pretty normal, there was nothing unusual. He lived at 33 Sycamore Street. His father was a painter and decorator, his mother a nurse. He was the eldest of four siblings.

The family home was neat and tidy. They had a live-in au pair; she was about nineteen, slim, fit and attractive. She took on a share of the family’s responsibility for childcare during the day and housework; she didn’t live in the family home, but above the garage. On first impressions this seemed odd to Jake, there was nothing in George’s life to explain his behaviour and treatment towards others and the attack on Ella.

Over the coming days, nothing was really happening. He took out his writing pad and wrote down the comings and goings of the household. The au pair was pretty much there all the time. The mother worked from 8 am to 8 pm. The father worked 8 am to 5 pm; however, he didn’t take over the family responsibilities from the au pair when he came home. He said hello to the kids, interacted with them for a little while, and then watched TV with a beer.

George arrived home just after 7 pm, his younger siblings started going to bed at ten-minute intervals between one another. George sat and watched television with his dad for about twenty minutes until the au pair sorted out the younger kids. Then George went to his room.

The blinds in the living room were turned down slightly, so Jake could still see. As the au pair approached the father, he undid his zipper and she stripped naked, not like she had much on anyway. She bent down between his legs and sucked him off, fingering herself at the same time, whilst the dad sat back relaxed on the sofa. She then climbed aboard, straddled and rode him whilst he sucked her small breasts.

The session really didn’t last that long. After it was over, they both hungrily kissed, then she got off him, got dressed and went to the kitchen and saw to dinner. Within ten minutes the wife came home from work. She kissed her husband, said hello to the au pair then went upstairs to see the kids and kissed them goodnight.

She changed into her pyjamas, then husband and wife excused the au pair and they sat down for dinner together. The au pair just went back to her room over the garage.

Jake was convinced that George must have known about his dad and the au pair. He wrote arsehole on his writing pad next to George’s name and then went home. Over the coming days, Jake was convinced that George was a bored kid with an arsehole attitude, with nothing to do other than to cause trouble. He had very little interaction with his parents and siblings.

Heather Cilliërs was the newest member of the gang, only just moved to the area from South Africa. She was of mixed race but she didn’t like that terminology as it made her feel like she was colourless, but instead referred to herself as multiracial. Her mother was French and her father was South African with some Irish thrown into the mix; her hair was braided and shaped into a shoulder length bob. She had big brown eyes with a beautiful smile. She was quite tall for her age and slender. She talked a lot, played the saxophone and is fluent in
