A bolt of excitement shot through my core, and a sharp breath whistled through my teeth. “Could you keep it up for that long?”
Valentine’s wide grin confirmed what I already knew—that he’d been holding back our entire courtship and that beneath his gentlemanly exterior was a man with dark desires. Now that he was a preternatural and no longer interested in putting me on a pedestal, he was about to show me exactly how long a Vampire King could last.
“Will I get to undress you today?” I asked.
He spread his arms wide. “You want this?”
A giggle bubbled up from deep within my belly, and all the worries I’d kept bottled up drifted to the back of my mind. We might have been on the verge of a supernatural war with Valentine dead and having lost his heart and soul, but we could have this pocket of happiness.
“I always want you,” I murmured.
He wrapped his hands around my waist, positioned me by one of the floor lamps, and sat on the edge of the bed.
“Take off your dress,” he said in a voice as dark as espresso.
I placed my hands on my hips. “Like a striptease?”
Valentine shook his head. “I can assure you there’ll be no teasing.”
My core muscles clenched, already preparing themselves for the grand finale. Every nerve ending in my body tingled with anticipation. Valentine had never asked me to do anything like this before. With his eyes fixed on me like I was one of those professional dancers, I felt alluring, sexy, powerful.
I slid my fingers beneath the dress’s thin strap and slid it down my shoulder. Valentine’s eyes tracked the movement, and he ran his tongue along his bottom lip, making my breath quicken. As I pulled down the other strap, he leaned forward, a deep rumble sounding from his chest.
“Purring again?” I asked.
“Vampires are not cats,” he said, his eyes dancing with amusement.
“No, but they sure like being stroked.”
Valentine shook his head and smiled. “I don’t know if I should spank you or screw you into the mattress until you scream my name over and over.”
“Why not a bit of both?” Heat rushed to my cheeks, and I forced myself not to lower my gaze and squirm. I wasn’t the shy inexperienced girl Valentine had plucked from obscurity. A little striptease in front of my fiancé was tame after what we did together in Gourmande.
I peeled the rest of the dress down, exposing a deep burgundy bra with semi-transparent cups that Minthe had selected for me this morning. It was one of the more modest varieties, as half of the bras had been of the peephole variety and the other half hadn’t had cups at all.
Valentine pressed the heel of his hand onto his straining crotch. “More.”
The dress slid down my ribcage, passed my waist, and settled just above my hips, exposing the lacy tops of my thong.
Valentine rose off the mattress and appeared in front of me in a heartbeat. “I want to unwrap the rest.”
He captured my bottom lip between his teeth with a playful nip that made my nipples tighten. He groaned and wrapped his arms around my back, unhooking the bra and peeling it off my shoulders.
As he released my lip and let the bra fall to the ground, his gaze lingered on my breasts. His hand slid up to my left breast and captured the nipple between his thumb and forefinger. Before I could exhale a fevered moan, he leaned down and engulfed my right nipple in his hot mouth.
Valentine flicked his tongue over one nipple while rolling the other between his fingers. My core muscles fluttered and clenched in time with the movements, and moisture flooded my folds. The onslaught of sensations made my breath shallow to desperate whimpers, and my knees trembled, threatening to give way. His strong arm held me in place in an assurance that he would never let me fall.
For the next several heartbeats, I melted into this touch. Yielded to his mouth and hands while he lavished me with the most exquisite pleasure. I felt his tongue on my nipple, on my pulsing and twitching clit and deep within my core. Valentine was everywhere, feeding the furnace between my legs with enough pleasure to make it overflow.
The hand between my shoulder blades slid down my spine, and his fingers skimmed the lacy waistband of my thong. He released my nipple with a pop that brought me back to my senses.
I unbuttoned his silk shirt with trembling fingers and rested my palm on the center of his bulging pecs. “At a time like this, I would love to feel your heart.”
“Patience, Innamorata.” He brushed my hair off my face, tilting my head up to meet his eyes. “When I have made things safe for us, you will have every part of me.”
“Yes.” I rocked forward on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to his.
As I drew back, Valentine’s hand wrapped around the back of my head, pulling us closer for a demanding kiss of firm lips and delving strokes that told me that I belonged to him—he was in charge. My pulse quickened, and warmth flooded my core. While he plundered my mouth, I unbuttoned his silk shirt and pushed the fabric off his shoulders.
He kissed and caressed and explored my mouth with his tongue as though committing me to memory. My breath caught, and something clenched at my heart. Part of me wondered if he didn’t expect to see me again, but I pushed that thought aside. Valentine had survived the impossible. He would always return.
“I want you so much,” he growled as his kisses drifted to my neck.
“Take me.” I slid my hands over his broad shoulders, clung to his thick biceps, and pressed our chests together.
Valentine’s deep rumble made my pulse quicken until it fluttered in sync with his pleasure. His large hands slid down my back, beneath the fabric that had gathered around my hips, and he peeled off the panties and
