The world and everyone else in it be damned.
“You’re right,” he agrees. “Let’s go shopping, girls like to shop to feel better don’t they?” he asks, looking at me sidelong and making me giggle.
“I guess, don’t you like buying things too though?” I ask him, remembering his wardrobe is around ninety-nine percent tracksuits.
He shrugs and lets me lead the way as I start to scout the main street for a store that might suit us both.
In four years this college town has almost become a small city, and my time alone shows when I don’t recognize more than half the stores or even where to begin.
There are a ton of places with summer clothes they’re trying to sell already, but the weather here now is all about warmth and comfort.
I’ve never shopped in town for clothes either, most places never have anything that fits me. I can get my size right, but being a little vertically challenged, everything’s way too long or not long enough.
I wonder if Wes has the same problems, being a bigger guy.
Hence the tracksuits, I guess.
“Bingo!” he announces, laughing a little as he points out a store.
“Big guys and big gals?” I ask, flushing with embarrassment until he points out what I was just thinking.
“You think I can ever find a decent pair of jeans?” he asks, not even suggesting I’m in the big camp when he mentions we can come back last for his clothes.
“We can check it out,” I tell him, already seeing a few things in the window that catch my eye.
“People are getting bigger, and it’s maybe not as hard to find clothes that fit in town now,” I reason with myself, trying not to make a noise when I eye the price tags.
Prices have gone up too, along with waistlines.
The store has a defined his and hers side, and after threatening to help Wes try on jeans, he suggests I see if they have anything girly I might like.
“I wanna fit into them, not have this busting out of ‘em,” he whispers, leaning in my ear and pressing my hand against his dick with a grin.
While he disappears to try on some jeans, I wander not too far and browse a few things myself.
“Just one outfit,” I tell myself. I don’t want Wes spending all this money on me in one day, no matter how much he’s got. I’ve always believed in paying my own way.
I shiver when I recall his terms though, the sensation of his front in my hand still clear in my memory.
A girl can always earn her keep in other ways, I guess. I tell myself, opting to try maybe one or two more things off the rack myself.
Telling myself Wes Heart is gonna get more than his money’s worth if I have anything to do with it.
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Wesley
What is it with that guy, is he following us?
He’s out of his uniform but I’m sure it’s him and I can only assume he’s finished for the day, and when I hear his familiar voice behind me I have my back up straight away.
“Faculty in a student’s room after hours alone, now shopping for clothes together?
I turn around and take a step towards him, my fists at the ready.
“Easy big guy, easy,” he laughs, his hands up in mock surrender. “You’re in enough trouble as it is by the looks, no need to add criminal assault charges to what’s left of your career.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” I hiss, leaning right into his to make up for all his following us around.
“You’re not technically breaking any rules, Mr. Heart. I checked. But you ain’t making any friends on the faculty either,” he says, trying to sound mysterious.
I don’t have time for this, Katelyn will be back out any second.
“What the fuck do you want, asshole. If it isn’t some free dental removal, I suggest you leave me, leave us alone,” I tell him, giving him a nudge with my fist that tells him I’m not kidding.
His smug face falls away and I see the bead of sweat running down his temple.
“You can expect to hear more about this, Mr. Heart. All of it, including threatening me on my afternoon off,” he says and backs away before disappearing like the rat he really is.
I puff out air angrily, telling a store assistant I’m fine when they ask if anything’s wrong. Instead, I ask her to send everything to the hotel suite no point in wandering around with all these clothes once we’re done.
But it’s Katelyn I worry about. I don’t want pricks like that stirring up trouble, not for her. I can handle myself, but I won’t have anyone trying to come between us.
“Wes? What is it?” she asks, stopping me by grabbing my arm before we cross the road.
“Is it all the clothes? I knew I picked out way too many, but you did say it was-”
I let out a chuckle, amazed by her yet again. “It’s not that, Katelyn. It really isn’t,” I promise her.
You’d better tell her. No secrets, remember?
“I just ran into that security guard again, he just happened to be in the store.”
“So?” she asks, confused but sensing a problem.
“He’s just trying to spook me, threatening me about faculty staff dating a student, that sort of thing.”
“I see,” she murmurs. “Guess we’ll have to deal with it at some point. I only have a few weeks to go though, and then I’m off to my research grant-“
She stops herself again, a pained look on her face.
A stab of pain I share in my stomach.
“And where is this research, Katelyn,” I ask her, needing to know even though I won’t like the answer.
Her lower lip starts to tremble and I know her research grant isn’t in town. I never thought it would be, both of us just chose to overlook that little fact it seems.
“I don’t have to go,” she says, her voice trembling. “It’s just a stupid grant anyway,
