did a little wiggle for him, getting up close to his erection. “A mental one. But you want to know the last move I always made before the chute opened?”

“Sure,” he said, hitching a breath.

“I’d reach way up on the railing, like this”—she reached for the bedpost with her right hand, her breast just barely out of reach of his mouth, and with her left hand, she held the base of his erection—“and then I’d pull my lady gooch to my pinkie and slide and ride.”

When Austin realized what she intended to do, he had to stop her, even though it almost killed him. But he wasn’t wearing a condom, and the ride would be over in less than eight seconds if she rode him right now.

And besides, he had a better plan than hers. He intended to hold her close. Hold her open. Kiss and suck her. One finger. Two fingers. In and out until she trembled.

He flipped her over onto her back and stretched out beside her. “Your slide and ride does sound sexy, but it’ll have to wait.”

She pushed on his chest, and when he didn’t budge, she pounded him with her fists. “That’s cheating. Let me back on. I want my eight seconds.”

A fire burned in her eyes, and for the first time, Austin understood how she could take her life for granted and do something dangerous that could change everything in a flash. The more people told her not to ride a bull, the more she had to prove she could.

Sound familiar, asshole?

“If you ride me the way you planned, this round would be over in less than eight seconds, and I want it to be memorable. I don’t want to be the butt of jokes. ‘Hey, did you hear Austin only lasted eight seconds when Ensley rode him the first time?’”

Ensley cracked up, laughing so hard she cried. Through her tears, she finally said, “For years, all I wanted was a ride to last eight seconds. That’s a perfect ride.”

He used a corner of the bedsheet to wipe her tears away. “I want it to be a perfect ride for you, a perfect night, a perfect everything.”

She kissed his lips, chin, chest, and then his nipples, gently sucking one into her mouth. He groaned, and she released it. “Hurt?”

He shook his head. “Hell, no.”

She took her time with the other one and looked up at him while she licked it. “If eight seconds is a perfect ride, what’s a perfect basketball game?”

“A five-by-five. Five points, five rebounds, five assists, five steals, and five blocked shots in a single game. And it’s never been done.” He stroked her face and neck and then skimmed his finger down to her breasts, teasing her nipples as she had his. His mouth replaced his finger, and he sucked the tip hard, raking his teeth over it until she began to murmur more nonsense about being cheated out of her eight seconds.

“You’ll have to wait your turn, ragazza tosta.”

“What’s with that expression? It’s Italian, and all I’ve met around here are lads from Ireland and Scotland. Kenzie even called me that tonight.”

“Pete Parrino, JL’s former partner, started calling her that early in her career, along with a few other choice Italian names, but that one stuck. And like her, you’re one tough girl.”

She pushed on his chest again, but it was as hard as trying to budge a damn bull. “Let me prove it.”

“What? That you’re tough? You don’t have to prove it to me.” He continued his assault on her nipples, and she gave up trying to get her way. Especially since maybe—just maybe—his way might be even more fun. And besides, there was always later.

Lie back and enjoy it. I have nothing to prove.

It was just the two of them now, suspended in time. Nothing existed except her body—soft and receptive—and his, hard as hell and hungry. His green eyes didn’t blink as he watched her, teased her, and turned her furnace up as high as it would go.

He gave her a lazy grin. “You’re licking your lips like I’m an ice cream cone.”

She covered her ears. “Don’t mention ice cream. I’ve been craving chocolate mint for weeks. If you put a bowl in front of me, I’ll shovel it in.”

“I’ll get you some after we get to know each other better.”

“I thought we already knew each other pretty well.”

“Maybe, but you haven’t screamed my name yet.”

“I’ll probably forget your name and call you Tornado, or Oscar, or Red Rock, or maybe Bodacious.”

“Are those famous bulls?”

She did a slow-moving once-over, starting at his toes and stopping at his hairline. “Yeah, and from what I see, I think you could give them a buck for their money.”

“Ha, ha.” He glanced down at his leg. “I’m all scarred and beat up.”

“So am I. And you like what you see. Right?”

He put her hand on his erection. “What do you think?”

He was hard and jerked when she touched him. “Hmm. I think you do.”

While she stroked him, he gathered her hair and spread it over her breasts and belly. “The first time I ran my fingers through your hair, I thought I’d come on the spot. It’s so silky and soft, and I wanted to spread it all over my chest and groin.”

“Is that why you always kiss the top of my head? You like the feel of my hair?”

His eyes twinkled. “Damn. Now you know my secret.”

“So the real reason you like to dry my hair is to indulge your crazy fantasies.”

“Guilty as charged.”

“I had an appointment to get my hair cut the day I went to Cambridge but had to cancel it when my client wanted to meet with me.”

He rubbed the hank of hair across his face. “Why cut it?”

“It takes forever to wash and dry.”

“But now you have someone to dry it for you. I love your hair, but it’s yours to do with as you want. I’ll continue to dry it, even if it grows
