answered right away. And I would have come no matter what.ā€

ā€œThank you, by the way,ā€ she whispered. ā€œFor coming with me.ā€

ā€œOf course,ā€ I agreed. ā€œTrust me, Iā€™m more than happy to breakā€¦errā€¦never mind.ā€

Shit, I shouldnā€™t have said that. Even if I didnā€™t finish that statement ā€“ that I was happy to break up Heidiā€™s date ā€“ I certainly said enough to communicate what I meant.

Lexi was staring straight ahead, her hands tight on the steering wheel.

ā€œI would have come no matter what,ā€ I quickly added. ā€œAfter everything thatā€™s happened? Yeah, I would have come no matter what, especially with something weird and unexpected like this. And Iā€™ll do everything in my power to make sure that both you and your sister stay safe. And if anything serious happens to you, Iā€™ll switch bodies with you if needed to keep you alive, so prepare yourself for that.ā€

She looked at me in alarm. ā€œB-But what if you die? Iā€¦Sam, I donā€™t want to be in your body forever.ā€

ā€œI get it,ā€ I agreed. ā€œTrust me, I definitely get it. But Lilyā€™s body wasnā€™t breathing for like ten hours or something, and yet I kept it alive. Your sister definitely helped, since she was emaciated and all, but now that we know Lily ended up with my regeneration superpower, Iā€™m pretty confident I was the reason why her body remained alive. Because I was in it.ā€

Lexi gulped audibly.

ā€œBut I wouldnā€™t do that to you unless you were seriously dying, okay?ā€ I sighed. ā€œIā€™m just trying to say, that I care about you too.ā€

ā€œThanks,ā€ she whispered, sounding sincere.

ā€œOf course.ā€

We were both silent for a few minutes.

ā€œBut between me and my sister, who is your pick?ā€ she blurted out.

I looked at her in shock. ā€œLexiā€¦ā€

Shit.

I tried to continue. ā€œIā€¦I canā€™t choose. I mean, I shouldnā€™t choose either way. I shouldnā€™t even be thinking about that.ā€

ā€œBut Iā€™m at least tied with her, right?ā€

Shit.

Shit, shit, shit!

Dammit, I was just going to be honest.

ā€œYeah, Lexi. Youā€™re absolutely tied.ā€

Much to my complete and total shock, she relaxed some, taking a deep breath.

ā€œThat doesnā€™t bother you?ā€ I asked seriously.

She looked at me in surprise. ā€œThat Iā€™m tied with my attractive, perfect, virgin younger sister? No, not at all. Especially since Iā€™m ā€˜used goodsā€™ and all.ā€

I immediately turned toward her in my seat, nearly enraged that she would even insinuate that. ā€œLexi,ā€ I snapped in a harsher tone than I intended. ā€œYou are not used goods.ā€

She jerked so violently from my outburst that I barely managed to grab the wheel in time, avoiding the car going off the road. Granted, had she swerved much further at this speed, her Ferrari would have taken over anyway to avoid an accident.

ā€œAutopilot,ā€ I commanded, knowing her Ferrari would accept it.

Lexi let go of the steering wheel entirely as the car took over, and I reached over to snag her hands in mine. ā€œLexi,ā€ I said more gently this time. ā€œYou are not used goods.ā€

She was trembling. She didnā€™t let go of my hands, instead holding on tighter, but she was shaking now.

ā€œSorry,ā€ I whispered. ā€œI didnā€™t mean to yell at you.ā€

She was quiet for a few long minutes.

ā€œYouā€™re wrong,ā€ she finally blurted out after the lengthy silence.

ā€œWrong?ā€ I repeated. ā€œLexi, youā€™re not damaged goods, or used goods, or whatever. Youā€™re not. I donā€™t care about your past. Thatā€™s never even been a factor in the whole ā€˜you versus your sisterā€™ thing you brought up.ā€

She sobbed then, ducking her head more. ā€œS-Sam, I canā€™t have sex anymore. Iā€™m terrified of it. I canā€™t even stick a tampon down there without having a panic attack and hyperventilating.ā€

My eyes widened in surprise. Immediately, I recalled Freya violently jerking away from my arm after being exposed to Lexiā€™s memories.

Shit.

Without thinking, I reached over and wrapped her up in my arms, pulling her firmly against my chest and holding her tightly.

ā€œI donā€™t care,ā€ I whispered, my heart feeling like it was literally bleeding for her. ā€œYour value isnā€™t based on something like that. Lexi, youā€™re just as important to me as your ā€˜virginā€™ sister.ā€ I scoffed, my tone becoming more lighthearted. ā€œAnd honestly, your offer to ā€˜take care of meā€™ in your office on Wednesday was just as hard to resist as it was when Heidi almost became Edenā€™s mother.ā€

ā€œReally?ā€ she sobbed.

ā€œI mean, please donā€™t put me in that position again, because Freya and Lily will be pissed if we do that kind of thing. But yeah, really. Shit Lexi, if Nick hadnā€™t interrupted usā€¦ā€

She looked up at me then, reaching up to wipe her purple tear-filled eyes. ā€œThat makes me really happy,ā€ she said with a sniffle.

I returned the smile, the two of us holding each otherā€™s gazes for a long few minutes.

Lexi then focused out the window, only to switch gears completely, instantly sobering up. ā€œShit, I think we passed it.ā€

We hadnā€™t put in an address for the car to follow, so it was just driving. Although, all Lexi had to do was just tell the car to set the destination as her sisterā€™s GPS signal.

Thankfully, we were only a stop past the theater.

Pulling into the parking lot, we spotted Heidiā€™s white Corvette ā€“ the same car Lexi tried giving to Lily as a present almost a year ago after everything that happened. However, she wasnā€™t near it, instead sitting on the hood of her dateā€™s vehicle, a big grin on her face.

Dammit.

I mean, I should be glad she was happy, but I really wasnā€™t. Not when that happiness was coming from some young douchebag who was probably perfect for her, and I just didnā€™t want to admit it.

Dammit.

We parked closer to Heidi, rather than her car, with Lexi double checking herself in the mirror, to make sure it wasnā€™t too obvious sheā€™d been crying, before we both climbed out to get her. It appeared that one of the other movies must have just finished up, because a crowd of people began pouring out of the theater at the same time, leisurely heading to their vehicles.

Heidiā€™s lavender eyes
