The leatherworking was quick and simple. Atlas made what he thought were the two most useful pieces. With only 70 pinches of salt, it limited him in the amount of leather he had. Using that as the guideline, he made six of the backpacks. Those he was absolutely certain would sell well. To round it out with a little more experience, he made five of the Reinforced Leather Jerkins. Chest armor was usually the most sought after. A blade or arrow in the chest was a far more common way to die than an arrow in the knee.

With the pieces made, he didn’t immediately return to town. Instead, he spent time with some more grinding. Fully loaded backpacks hung from him, and pieces of armor hung haphazardly all over any free space on his body. He finally returned to the city. A quick check of his messages showed all of his experience and he collapsed them together to see the extent of his gains from killing animals.

The trek back was quiet, and everything avoided him with no issues. The guard waved him through, although they gave him appraising looks. Atlas couldn’t blame them. It wasn’t every day you saw someone walk by with five chest pieces and multiple bags strapped all over them with small scraps of leather. He’d attached so much stuff to him it was difficult to move.
Before he did anything else, he walked directly back to the leatherworking shop. When he entered, the sound of laughter startled him. A deep bellow echoed through the room, and Atlas looked up in surprise to see Master Trailia on the other end. The woman had the laugh of a three hundred pound jovial innkeeper.
“Well, bless be the Lady, I guess that’s one way to pack stuff. Guess you don’t have a horse or mule to do it. That’s some fine leatherwork,” she finally said when she stopped laughing, “Those backpacks are fetching a high price right now with all the Reborn in town. I assume you’re in the market to sell?”
“Sure am. Trying to make some money for the hunt.”
She nodded at that and flicked the menu toward him. When he selected the first backpack, a devilish grin split his face. The first one listed at 3 silver. Each successive one dropped in price by 10 copper, but that was still an incredible amount. It totaled up to 16 silver and 50 copper. Feeling the end in sight, he selected the first of the jerkins. This one wasn’t as high, but he couldn’t complain when the first one registered at 2 silver. The price of these must be dropping. Someone else must be making them. I made more money on the gloves in my first city.
Selling all five netted him an additional 9 silver. With the transactions complete, he switched back to the buying tab. An additional level meant there should be additional items to make. The last two items to complete his reinforced set waited for him.

Both patterns cost 20 copper a piece and he bought them without a second thought. With his purchasing complete, he moved to the Woodworking shop. The 15 sets of Sturdy Rods sold for a respectable 7 silver and 50 copper. The amount confused him because the price remained steady when he sold these. Unlike the armor, it didn’t drop by 10 copper every piece.
“Just curious. Why does the price of Sturdy Rods not drop like the armor and weapons?” Atlas asked.
“Oh, the city regulates those. They commonly use sturdy rods as building materials within the city. Because of that, they have a price mandated by the governing council and it doesn’t change. It ensures building costs don’t wildly fluctuate from time to time.”
“Good thinking. Hadn’t considered that aspect,” Atlas told him with a nod.
The Buying screen was far more interesting this time.

He bought both skills and added the skill for wood toggles from before that he skipped out on. Fifty copper lighter wouldn’t hurt him right now.
With money in tow, he headed for the registrar’s office. On his way, he realized he’d been a fool. Last time he entered town, he was so wrapped up in the hunt, he’d forgotten about the tightly bundled rolls of fur and Hippoblooms in his belt pouches. After he registered for the event, he told himself he’d turn those in.
The office wasn’t crowded this time, and he walked in without an issue. The same droll man greeted him and he immediately plopped down twenty silver.
“I’m ready to register for the hunt.”
The clerk looked at the coins and slowly picked up the bag. With an exaggerated flourish, he tossed the coins behind him onto another desk and pulled out a sheet of parchment.
“Name?”
“Atlas.”
“Just Atlas?”
“Sure.”
The clerk sighed but continued.
“Here is your contract,” he told him as he flipped the page around, “It details the conditions of the event and the prize as agreed upon. Please sign at the bottom to complete your registration.”
The man pushed a small bottle of ink with a quill in it toward him, and Atlas snatched it
