“Yo! Luc! You in there?”
“Fuck!” Luc ripped my shirt down, hand withdrawing.
What? No!
“Jim, stay the fuck out!” he yelled.
There was a pause, then a quiet chuckle from outside as I rolled off Luc, both of us frantically readjusting clothing.
“I’m not coming in, you sicko. Just letting you know you got ten.” The gravel crunched as Jim walked away.
I blushed furiously as I redid the button on my jean. My head dipped, hair hiding my burning face.
Luc gently brushed my hair back, drawing my face up to look at him. He offered a wry smile.
“You okay?”
I nodded, too embarrassed to speak.
“I shouldn’t… that got a little out of hand.” He blew out a breath. “Sorry.”
I gave a half shrug.
“You’re…” He raked his gaze over my face. “Gorgeous. Don’t be embarrassed, Keys.”
A small smile tugged at my mouth. “I am, but only that we got caught. I just… I’m more upset that he… stopped us.”
Luc barked out a laugh. “Fuck, you’re perfect.” His lips came back to mine.
These kisses were slow. They weren’t frantic, though they still held an edge of controlled want. When we finally left the van I still burned. I could feel how wet I remained. I desperately wanted him.
Was I embarrassed? Sure. But more than that? I was so freaking happy I wasn’t broken.
Luc settled me on a table near the dancefloor. I clocked Jetta and Pax as they entered. Luc waved them over before dropping a kiss on my lips.
“Later.” He winked, disappearing, his bandmates already starting to assemble on the stage.
Jetta gave me a look as she handed me a glass.
“What?” I accepted the offered soft drink, taking a long sip.
“You’re flushed.”
“It’s hot in here.” I didn’t care that I was staring at Luc’s hands as he picked up his guitar. Those hands were magic.
“Your lips are swollen,” she accused, eyes narrowing.
I couldn’t stop the grin. “Are they?”
She leaned in, staring intently at my chin. “You have beard burn!”
I chuckled.
“Spill!”
I shrugged, taking a sip of my drink. Luc smiled at me from the stage as he waited for the guys to settle.
“Fines” she huffed, settling into the seat beside me. “But I am so telling Addie.”
I rolled my eyes at the empty threat. If Addie didn’t know from one look at me that I’d been making out, then there was something wrong with her. Jarrett described her as a sexual savant.
The lights dimmed, and Luc stepped up to the microphone. “Evening, everybody, we’re Behind Utopia, and we’re your musical entertainment for tonight.”
The band launched into their first song. They did covers, and a damn good job at that. Throughout the night, Addie, Kel, Jarrett, and Jack arrived.
By ten o’clock, our group was varying levels of drunk. Pax was sober, Kel also. The rest of our merry gang was everything from tipsy (Simeon) to ready to be wheeled home (Addie). I watched Jarrett eyeing off a guy on the far side of the room.
“I’m going to do that,” he declared, raising his glass.
I tilted my head, squinting at the guy in question. “He’s flirting with someone.”
“They’re not serious.” Jarrett made a sweeping motion. “He’s interested.”
“Really?” Kel drawled dryly. “He doesn’t look it.”
“Oh, just you wait.” Jarrett swung back to the stage, giving Luc a wave. Luc gave him a nod, finishing up the song.
“Thanks, guys, you’ve been great!” Luc told the heaving crowd as they screamed for more. “We’ve got a little surprise for you tonight. We’ve got two great friends of the band in the audience.”
“Oh, fuck.” Jetta’s horrified expletive was just audible over the cheers.
“Give a warm welcome to Jarrett and Jetta!”
Jarrett calmly swept Jetta up, leading her to the stage. Luc swapped his electric out for an acoustic as the band chugged drinks, wiping their sweaty faces.
Pax crossed his arms as he glared at the stage.
“She’ll be fine.” Addie patted his bicep drunkenly. “You know she will.”
A muscle in his cheek ticked as the crowd began to murmur. Jetta’s fame as a lyricist, coupled with her recent singing endeavours, not to mention her recent brush with crime, meant the crowd knew her.
Jarrett handed her a microphone, taking the spare as they stood on stage. Jetta glanced from Jarrett to Luc to Paxton in the crowd. Jetta stared out at the crowd, fiddling with the microphone, her face pale, her eyes deer-caught-in-the-headlights wide.
Jarrett waved a hand. “This is for the hottie over in the corner. You know who you are, good looking.” He winked as Luc strummed the opening bars of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect Duet.”
Jarrett sang, his eyes on the hot guy across the room. He changed the lyrics from guy to girl. As he got to the part that Beyoncé would normally sing, Jetta, her eyes firmly on Pax took over. Her voice pitched beautifully as she sang. Luc flashed a grin as Jetta and Jarrett brought it home, absolutely smashing it.
I glanced at Pax. He’d dropped his arms, hands now in his pocket as he smiled pure love at Jetta.
#CoupleGoals
They finished to rapacious applause and calls for more. Jarrett looked at Jetta, a quick conversation between them taking place as the crowd, hungry for more, cheered. Finally, they nodded, talking to the band. A moment later the opening bars of the Foo Fighters’, Everlong revved the crowd. The dance floor packed out as Jarrett, Jetta, and Luc took turns belting out the lyrics.
“She’s loving it!” Addie yelled, clinging to Pax as the dancefloor heaved. “Look at her!”
Jetta danced on stage, playing air guitar as Jarrett and Luc sang.
The band revved the crowd up, building to a peak as the set drew to a close.
“Thank you!” Luc yelled over the screams for an encore.
I fought my way back stage, flashing my wrist band at the two security guards. They waved me through. Luc wrapped an arm around my waist, spinning me around, pressing hot kisses to my laughing mouth.
“Emmie! Oh, Emmie let your hair hang down!” he sang, swinging me around until I
