The crowd dispersed, except for two people who huddled together, oblivious to the relentless downpour. Marc Anderson and Paolo Bautista, friends with a newfound, common bond. Both of them stood over the open grave, watching as the casket was slowly lowered into the ground. The two men held red roses in their hands, made even more vibrant in the gray, rain-soaked backdrop. At last, the two of them tossed the roses into the grave, where presumably they landed atop the casket, one final gesture, a last goodbye to a loved one.

Parker shook his head.

My God, it should never have come to this.

Was it his fault? Or the fault of the person who had brought a gun to the art show?

The gun had gone off.

And someone had paid with his life.

Wonderland. It wasn’t such a place of Wonder anymore. Like ten years ago, death had settled into Eldon Court, and its hold was strong, as deadly as the lightning flashing above. Just now, thunder rumbled across the sky.

The rain continued to fall.

Like the skies were crying.
