like reading about a stranger. It wasn't Trip. It wasn't the bikers she knew. It wasn't the Avery Falls she'd grown to love.

If she gave herself enough time, she could convince herself that everything was true. Grandpa Gene's observations were right. But, unlike her grandpa, she knew Trip better, more intimately. She'd witnessed him with her kids.

She had to believe Trip when he swore to protect her. That together they could love each other. That the program was in his past.

And, she was his future.

Chapter Thirty Seven

Around the table in the clubhouse's meeting room, Prez finished posting the jobs for the upcoming week. Trip stood back from the others with Speeder, knowing he was put on collections full-time.

Prez never mentioned Trip's exit from the program, and he wondered if the handlers made him forget or he knew and wasn't saying anything.

He couldn't blame Prez if he couldn't trust him again. Nobody had ever successfully left the Alpha Bio Project. Whatever pills he was given, he seemed to have a clearer head the last two weeks as he got Bonnie and the boys settled in the house.

Or maybe that was Bonnie's doing, having her around.

Speeder, unusually quiet, shifted from foot to foot as if agitated. Trip hadn't told his MC brother about his last meeting with the handlers.

"What job did you pull for this week?" he asked.

"The cave." Speeder glanced at him. "Prez told the originals you're out."

So, they knew. He leaned back against the wall.

"The changes happening to us are orchestrated by them." Trip looked around the room, knowing the others could hear their conversation.

"We were informed." Speeder turned to him. "Doesn't mean we're all getting out."

"Have they said that?" He'd hoped there would be others who were released, too.

Speeder cocked his brow and backed away without answering. Trip stayed at the edge of the room. Despite Speeder's changes, his MC brother would only talk about the program with other participants.

And he was no longer participating.

A part of him wanted to know. Another part of him believed the less he was told, the better it was for his family.

His family.

Being around Bonnie had the changes inside of him happening at a faster pace. He found himself asking the kids how their school day had gone—because that's what Bonnie asked every afternoon. Each morning, he asked her what she was going to do—because she always asked what was on his agenda for the day. He'd become aware of her moods now that they were living together.

He knew when to be quiet, and he was learning when she needed him to say something. Most of all, his desire to have sex weren't based on being near her. Lots of things turned him on.

Early mornings when she turned her hair from curly to straight.

Afternoons when she recognized the sound of his Harley and stepped out of The Shack to wave at him.

Quiet evenings when she leaned over to help her sons with their homework at the table, and she called the work stupid because she had no clue how to help them.

Then, there were those times in the middle of the night when she reached over to him in her sleep and wrapped her hand around his cock. He'd damn near come knowing even when she was unconscious, she wanted him.

He walked out of the room. The meeting was over, and Bonnie was waiting outside at the get-together for him. They'd arrived at the clubhouse together earlier than normal, so he could attend the meeting.

Outside, he found her talking to J.J. at the food table. Slowing his step, he cocked his head.

"I'm going to miss the get-togethers when the weather changes," said Bonnie.

"They'll move them into the clubhouse." J.J. leaned closer to Bonnie. "Trust me. It's more fun in the fall and winter. More intimate."

"The MC allows the locals inside?"

J.J. turned her back to the women close by and whispered, "They only invite the single women. No kids."

"Oh."

J.J. laughed. "Of course, you won't have to worry about that. You've done the impossible."

"What's that?"

"You belong to Trip."

Bonnie's spine stiffened. "Strong word. Maybe he belongs to me."

"Whatever you want to call it." J.J. reached out and rubbed Bonnie's arm. "I need to grab the hamburger buns out of the car."

Bonnie strolled away, looking out toward the field at the kids. Trip took that moment to join her.

She smiled at seeing him and held out her hand. He slid his index finger into her palm, and she latched onto him.

"Meeting over?" She studied him.

She couldn't hide her curiosity about what happens behind closed doors. Since the night he'd given her more information about him, she'd asked more questions. Mainly about how he was different than the normal man.

The best way to tell her was by showing her what he was capable of. She'd joined him in the gym on several mornings. At first, she refrained from saying anything. He could tell that what she'd witnessed scared her. But a growing fascination soon came.

All she asked of him was not to not let Zach and Kenny know about what he'd gone through and continued to live with. They were too young, and in her words 'they were boys'. They'd talk, and it was not a world she wanted them involved in.

He understood her concern. But when it came to their safety, there was no question about how he could protect them.

Trip pulled her in front of him, pressing her back against his chest. Wrapping his arms around her, his cock hardened. She sighed, reaching behind her to rub his thigh.

She gazed up, trying to see him behind her. "You're distracting me."

"Can't help it. I want you." He kissed her forehead.

"I want you, too." She turned in his arms. "Want to go on a date, Mister Trip?"

"Are you asking?"

"I am. Will you meet me in the gym at midnight tonight?" She spread her hands on his chest. "Oh, and don't wear anything."

His cock pulsed. "You're not helping me."

"Who says I want you to change?" She grinned
