“I’m glad you asked,” Brianna whispers in my ear, ignoring Mindy too after I put the ring on her finger. “I have some news for you, too. Remember when you came and visited at Thanksgiving?”
“How could I forget?” I ask, grinning. A win on Thanksgiving Day followed by three days of wonderful bliss with Brianna at her new apartment? I don’t know which was sorer, my body from the game or my body from the number of times we made love that weekend.
“Well, I can’t be sure . . . but I’d say that was the weekend that you left me with a little surprise,” she says with a smile.
The news nearly brings me to my knees, a surge of elation washing over me. “You’re fucking with me!”
Brianna shakes her head, her eyes filled with tears and pride. “Congratulations, Gavin Adams. You’re going to be a father.”
Tears come to my eyes as I pull Brianna close, kissing her again, my heart exploding with absolute joy.
Meanwhile, Mindy grins as she looks on, wiping tears from her eyes. Apparently, she’s been in on it the whole time. “Guess the Anaconda is gonna be busy tonight!” she cracks, her voice filled with emotion.
I grin, a chuckle escaping my lips as I pull my sweet Bunny in for another kiss, growling, “You’re damn right it will.”
Extended Epilogue
Brianna - Christmas
Wrapping the last present and putting it under the tree feels almost strange to me. A year ago, I certainly didn’t think that my life would be this way. Even with Gavin’s help that last semester, Christmas was rather lonely. He had an away game in New England, and with Christmas being on a Saturday, it was just Mindy and me.
Now, as I look around our house, with its spacious and elegant living room and the hint of the kitchen through the open doorway, I’m shocked. I never thought it could be this way.
“What’s my Bunny thinking about?” Gavin says softly next to me as he tucks the last of his presents under the tree. “You had a faraway look in your eyes for a minute.”
I laugh softly, shaking my head. Him and that nickname . . . but I like it. “I guess I’m just thinking about the fact that tomorrow is our first Christmas as a real family. Part of me sort of wishes that little Rafe would remember it.”
Gavin looks over at our sleeping son, who’s decided that his almost five-month-old body is ready for a night’s sleep. He looks adorable tucked into his Christmas pajamas. He has his father’s eyes, although he inherited my deep brown hair. Mindy says that we’re going to have to watch him in about fifteen or sixteen years. He’s already a charmer, and part of me suspects that she’s right. Gavin is already gaga over his son. “Don’t worry about it, babe. I’m going to make sure that we get plenty of photos. And besides . . . he’s the best Christmas gift I could’ve ever gotten.”
I hum and put my arms around Gavin’s waist. Nearly a year of retirement certainly hasn’t hurt his body. He’s still chiseled from head to toe, even with him doing a little sympathy eating with me at the end of the pregnancy. “You said the same thing at Thanksgiving. And on your birthday. You know what I’m most happy for though?”
“What’s that?” Gavin asks, hugging me back. His hand naturally comes to rest on my left breast, and I can feel the tingle already starting to build within my body again.
We both decided we’re not ready for another baby just yet, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have sex any time we get quiet moments alone. We just thought I should be on birth control for now.
I moan slightly as his hand begins to stroke my nipple, and I turn to kiss him on the lips. “The greatest gift I’ve ever gotten was the day that you told me you loved me. From that moment, my life has changed. You’ve given me a home and a child, but most importantly, you’ve given me you. So, while you might not come under the tree wrapped in a bow and paper, don’t think I don’t recognize the gift that you are.”
Gavin chuckles and softly kisses the curve of my neck. His lips and tongue soon match the warm glow of the fire that’s in the fireplace behind us, and I lean back into him, my knees opening slightly as we sit on the carpet together. “You know, maybe they should hire you to be a playwright. Because that was the best thing I’ve heard since I had to start reading that script again. Whoever did the rewrite is a total hack.”
I laugh and turn on my knees to face him and playfully kiss him on the lips. It’s taken me months, but I finally get to see Gavin do what he enjoys, which is get a little bit of spotlight. It’s not a lot, but he swears it’s enough. “I’m glad you feel better about taking a role again, even if it is just community theatre. I know it’s not going to win you any Oscars, but you are going to be the star.”
Gavin laughs, his laugh turning into a soft moan when I reach forward and cup the crotch of his jeans. He might not come underneath the tree wrapped in paper and a bow, but right now, I’m thinking about something else that he has that can come under the tree, and right now, it’s wrapped in denim. “Am I really driving you that house crazy?”
I shake my head, massaging his cock until it’s fully hard inside his jeans before I reach for his belt and start undoing it. “Not at all. And I know you don’t want any national headlines anymore, but you shouldn’t just hide yourself away from
