“Magic isn’t dead. It’s in you. We just have to bring it out.”
“Right,” I scoff.
He ignores my eyeroll.
“The reason you haven’t found supernaturals is because you didn’t know what to look for. We’re well hidden.”
Griffin rises out of the water in front of me as though he has invisible ropes attached to his arms. The same blue glow from the door is shimmering around him like an ethereal essence. Treading water, my whole world changes in front of me.
“There’s no illusion, Selene, no tricks, no magician’s tools. This is me. This is my essence.”
The ethereal essence that surrounds him shimmers in his turquoise eyes. I fully see it now, the little glimpses I was getting. It’s incredible, and he is beautiful, like a water god in his magnificent glory, floating above the water in a shimmering display of beauty, strength, and mystery. His feet submerge below the water, and the rest of his stunning body follows. Still treading water, an overwhelming sensation of awe fills my heart and mind.
“This is what I’ve been trying to explain to you.”
Griffin is in the water directly in front of me, having to do very little to keep his head above water. The caress of his hands touches my hips, then thighs, and I suck in a breath at the tingling sensation emerging throughout my body.
“Do you feel it?”
“What?”
“My essence.”
“I do.”
“How does it feel to you?”
“Warm and tantalizing. It leaves me wanting more.”
Griffin is close now, so close, our lips could touch.
“Do you believe me now?”
“I’m beginning to.”
Griffin removes the space between us, his soft lips sending more of the tingling sensation throughout my body, traveling down to my center. The sensation is so arousing, I tighten as I place my arms around his neck to stay above water. My awareness of my body and what it wants is heightened, every part of me he touches sparking with excited shocks. His kiss consumes me, my moans slipping out between the movement of our lips. This man, this Fae, is intoxicating, and I want more. His hands move with languid caresses up and down my back, then squeeze my ass and pull me tighter against him. I barely register we’re moving out of the water until I feel the sand on my back.
His stretched cock is between my legs, and as he pushes the length of it against my opening, I can’t help thrusting back against him, wet and needy for him to fill me.
“Am I dreaming?”
His tongue lashes across my neck, then ear, before he sucks the lobe into his mouth and thrusts harder against me.
“Does it feel like you’re dreaming?”
“No, but it feels surreal.”
“I can take you higher, fulfill every desire you have, Selene. I’ll do that for you because you’re the one who’s meant for me.”
His words are sobering, the shock of them forcing my hands out and pushing him off me.
“What the hell?” I grab my shirt and hold it to my chest. “Were you using some kind of spell or your essence to seduce me?”
Griffin stands and grabs his shorts and shirt, shaking his head at me.
“What you just felt was real. I didn’t do anything to you.” He walks away, seemingly upset, not looking at me or seeming to care if I run off. “Don’t go into the woods alone since you don’t know your own magic,” he calls back to me.
Sitting in the sand, my shirt still gripped in my fist, I try to wrap my mind around what I just saw and experienced.
CHAPTER FOUR
SELENE
The sun has dipped lower in the sky by the time I make my way back to Griffin’s house. As I near it, I get to see the house in its entirety. A pretty pale blue with gold columns and trim on the edge of the windows and roof, it’s two stories with a gold railing around a flat part of the roof. I immediately wonder what’s up there.
As I near the house, guilt tickles my chest. I feel bad for upsetting Griffin, but he should understand how overwhelming this all is. When I enter, I don’t see him, so I go upstairs to the room where my stuff is, find clean clothes, and take a shower. With my hair blow-dried, I go back downstairs in search of Griffin. This time, I find him sitting on the couch with his legs sprawled out and a book in one hand. He looks normal—human—especially since his messy blond locks are covering his ears once again.
“Would it be all right if I asked you some questions?”
Griffin lowers the book, his liquid blue eyes studying me over the top of the book.
“Of course, I want you to feel comfortable with all of this.” He drops his legs down and pats the white couch cushion. As he sets the book on the coffee table, I sit next to him.
“I’m not even sure where to begin.”
“Start with easy questions.”
“Are there any other humans on this island?”
“No.”
“Are there other supernaturals on the island?”
“Yes.”
“How is the island hidden?”
“By Fae magic. Our forefathers created it as a safe haven. I come here when I need the protection of magic and want to be close to others of my kind or to get off the grid for a while.”
“But you said only Cyrus can make portals to get here.”
“This island is only for Fae kind. Cyrus is a warlock. A part of his magic is creating portals. He made one, so I could bring you here where you would be safe to explore your magic.”
“Cyrus is one of your friends?”
“Yes.”
He sits farther back into the
