“Do you remember this?” I walked out of the bushes and ran towards the group. I tried to push the girls, but nothing happened, my arms kept going through them. I heard my cry from the other side of them and I walked through the group. Everyone was laughing at the young me, my ex best friend and my ex crush. “What happened here?” Cerberus stood next to me.
“I was about fifteen and I went to a sleep over. I was dared to strip and walk out in the lake. No one was allowed to be there. Rosie, the tallest one here, spread the word and all my old best friends and old crush showed up. I was very embarrassed, and didn’t show my face for a week. I don’t know why I did it; I guess I loved to fit in.”
“What would you have changed from this memory if you could?”
“I would have never gone to the sleepover and never had to deal with the embarrassment.” I felt my whole head feel heavy and everything went black.
Chapter 46
Astra’s Past
The world had gone black. But just for a moment.
The next thing I know I’m back at my house. In the living room to be more exact.
“That was strange. I need to hurry up and leave before something happens.” I walked to the front door.
“There is no need for that.” Said a voice from behind me.
“And why would that be?” I said turning around? I was surprised to find a man with long black hair and a nice tan. He seemed kind of off.
“Because this is just a memory.”
“Let me guess. I’m not going to be able to get out of this until I go through the whole thing, and I learn something important.
The man nodded. “That is correct.”
“Alright then. Show the way then.”
He drifted off down the hallway. “I am going to warn you. Whatever you chose to change in this memory could change the way you look at the world. And it could change your future. Before you get too caught up in everything, remember what you experience here is only a memory. It will not physically affect you back in the real world. But it may cause you to look at things differently.”
“I would like to see that happen.”
I walked around the corner into the kitchen.
There I was with grandfather. I recognized this memory. It was the day he died.
“Why won’t you let me go?” I yelled at him.
“I am not letting you go because it is dangerous.”
“That’s not fair. We’ve been planning this for weeks.”
“It does not matter. What I say goes.” He sipped his coffee.
“I. Hate. You.” Was all I said before storming out of the house.
Everything paused at that moment. The look on grandfather’s face made me want to cry.
It was that same day a few hours later when we got the call that grandfather had died.
“Now that you have seen this, would you change it? If so, how? If not, why?”
I thought about it. “The only thing I would change about this would be what I said to him. I’m not going to say why. Because I think what was said was meant to happen. And without that, we wouldn’t be here now. And Things would be different.”
Chapter 47
Alexzander’s Past
My feet landed and slowly my vision started to come in to focus. I was standing in the middle of a street, but I didn’t notice where I was, but who wasn’t with me. “Nova!” I called to no one, but the only answer I got was a huge gust of wind and Ebony standing in front of me. “Where is she?” I stormed up to Ebony. I could tell she twitched at my anger, but she slightly smirked.
“Probably with Past.”
“Where are they?”
“They are in Nova’s Past or going into her present vision. I don’t really know, time is different in visions.”
“Get me to her.”
She didn’t bother answering me; instead she walked past me and bounced up the stairs. I didn’t notice it before, but I was standing in front of my house. It looked newer though. I followed after Ebony and walked into the living room. The house was exactly how it was before…. Mom died. She loved old fashion and my dad loved making her happy.
The room was a tan color and the floor was covered with dark wood. “Mommy, can you get me some medicine?” a little boy asked. He was about five with hair as black as midnight and eyes as green as the forest. He was pale and had dark rings under his eyes. It was the younger me.
“Let me check the bathroom.” I dark haired lady came walking out of the kitchen. Her hair was in a tight bun and she wore an old-fashion dress. A white apron was tied around her waist and the brightest smile was on her face. My mom walked through me and up to the young me. She placed her petite hand on my pale forehead. “You feel warm, Alexzander.”
My mom rushed into the bathroom, to come back out with a panic look on her face. She ran up the stairs and came back down with her black coat on, “I am going to the store, I’ll be right back.” She stopped midstride and rushed back over to me. She kissed my forehead and smiled down at me, “I will be right back. Try to get some rest.” She ran out the door without saying goodbye.
“Are you Ok?” Ebony placed her hand on my arm. “What just happened?”
“My mom went to get medicine for me. While coming back she got hit by a drunk driver.” I shook off Ebony’s hand and wiped my eyes. “If it wasn’t for me, my mom would still be alive,” I chocked on the words.
“What would you change in this memory if you could?”
“I would have made her stay by my side.” I felt a gust of wind and my vision blurred, until I couldn’t see the younger me anymore.
Chapter 48
Collin’s Past
When Astra fell to the ground I tried to go after her, but I did the same thing.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back at my house. During the party a few days ago.
I was slightly confused about this. That was until I realized that nobody could see or hear me.
“That’s just great, stuck in a memory where people can’t see or hear me.” I said sarcastically.
“I am willing to bet that you know why you’re here?”
I turned and saw a man standing there. “Of course I do.”
“So you know what needs to be done?”
“Yes.”
I left to outside. Then made my way to the secrete door that led to my secrete place underground.
I watched myself as me and Astra talked. Now I could see the sheer panic that was on her face. I would say I had no clue on what I was doing. But that would be a total lie. I knew exactly what I was doing. And a ping of regret coursed through me.
A voice brought me back. “Do you regret doing this?”
I thought about it for a good while. Then I came up with an answer. “Part of me will always regret it. I mean the things that I caused to happen, I feel awful for. But at the same time I don’t regret it. If I hadn’t done what I did. Alexzander and Nova probably wouldn’t have gotten together. I wouldn’t have gotten to be with Astra. And my father would have gotten to them. At least this way they have a fighting chance. In answer to your question. No I don’t regret doing this.”
The person smiled. “Your decision is wise. Let’s just see how it affects you now.” He waved his hand in the air.
My vision blurred, going black once again.
Chapter 49
Nova’s Present Vision
I felt light weight again and I fell on a cemented floor, face first. “You really got to learn how to land on your feet.” Past said while helping me up. I would have punched him if I didn’t get a creepy feeling run down my back. And it only happens when I’m at school. I slowly turned around to find kids walking through me, kids kissing in the hallway, and the group of blondes, I wish I could wring their necks.
“Why are we here?”
“You know how you wanted to see what happened if you weren’t embarrassed at the lake.”
“I never said I wanted to see what happened.”
He sighed in frustration, “You said you would of changed the embarrassment, so we are here at the present to see what would happen to you if that never happened.”
“I don’t see how that proves me worthy to pass the gates.” Cerberus didn’t answer me; instead he grabbed my hand and pulled me down the hallway. I noticed a new girl standing with the blondes and stopped abruptly. I smacked Cerberus’s hand away and walked back. “Who is that?”
A very tan girl stepped out and glared at everyone around her. “That is you.”
“What?!” I stepped in front of the other me. I had the same hair, but as I said earlier she was so tan and just didn’t look like me at all. The only way I knew it really was me because of the eyes. “What happened to me?”
“You never went to the slumber party, so you never became enemies with,” he looked at the girls behind the other me, “those things.”
“So I became a slut.” I looked down at my clothes and back at the other me. She/I had a mini skirt on that I thought should be called underwear and had a teal tube top. At least she had converses on, but still? I looked down at my clothes. I was wearing black skinny jeans, a t-shirt, my red vans, and Alexzander’s leather jacket. I was happy I had it on because it was the only thing keeping me sane. “Can we leave?”
“Not yet.” I pushed past Cerberus and ran down the hallways. I stopped in my tracks to see Alexzander kissing Hailey. He had trapped Hailey between his arms, but it didn’t look like Hailey was going to go anywhere. Hailey wore Alexzander’s jacket and suddenly I had a feeling of despair wash over me. “This is just a vision, this is just a vision.” I kept repeating it over and over. Cerberus walked up to me and gave my shoulder a light squeeze for reassurance. “How did that happen?”
“Well Hailey always liked Alexzander, even now. But she knew you guys only had eyes for each other. But in here, you’re a slut and don’t feel very much.”
“Oh thank you, that makes me feel so much better.”
“I wasn’t finished.”
“Please go on.”
“Well, Alexzander tried to ask you out, a bunch of times. But since you don’t have any feelings….”
“Hailey has him.” I shook my head and took a deep breath. “Can we go to the next vision.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes,” I looked back at Alexzander, “I want to leave now.”
Chapter 50
Astra’s Present Vision
I slipped into another vision. This time I was in my bedroom. “Is this another memory?”
“No. It is the present. The decision of your past.”
“That’s great. I wonder what’s going to happen now.” I said sarcastically.
I heard laughing down stairs, and followed the voices.
I was absolutely surprised to see that grandfather was alive. I desperately wanted to run to him. If I tried to
