“Fantastic!” he said wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her free of the ground and spinning her around.
Her bubbly laughter filled the library, “Okay, okay, put me down.”
“Sorry,” he murmured. “Okay let’s go,” he added slinging an arm over her slim shoulders.
She laughed and walked outside with him. The sun was out glaring bright, an odd occurrence for the part of England where the Sinclair’s made their home. Its rays shown down and warmed the pale skin on her bare arms. Blake threw up the door of the garage and let out a slow whistle as he peered into the large garage filled to the brim with what Ashton called “Toys of Necessity.”
Blake slung a long leg over his black Ducati and backed it out of the garage. He handed Jesse his spare helmet and put his own on. Jesse smiled and climbed on behind him resting her delicate hands on his lean hips. He chuckled and wrapped her arms around his waist tightly.
“Silly girl,” he said with a laugh. “You will fall off that way.”
She laughed quietly, “it hasn’t been that long. I still remember how fast you drive,” she said with a laugh as he gunned the engine and sprayed gravel as he tore down the drive at breakneck speed.
They drove for almost two years. Him making dangerously fast turns where his knees scraped along the ground and the wide open stretches of road where the speedometer climbed so high Jesse thought it would have cracked into a million pieces.
Blake banked at a turn and pulled into a parking spot at the north end of Blake’s favorite park. She climbed off the back of the back and stretched, her leg muscles aching with the pressure it took to hold onto the bike. He climbed off the bike and smiled at her, not the least bit unsteady on his feet.
Her eyes were unfocused as she thought, she had made her choice and he was going to hate it for her it. But that would be tomorrow, for now she would live in the moment.
Blake felt like he was flying. She was actually giving them a chance. For once in her life she wasn’t playing it safe and was taking a chance. The best thing was, she was taking a chance on him. He walked down the hallway, practically skipping, which for a man of his size was immensely amusing.
He stopped at the painted black door to her room and smiled. Last year she had gone crazy and painted it solid black and painted red and white flowers on it, now it was black with red slash marks, and the banner of the band kiss tied into the slashes.
He raised his fist and knocked loudly so she could hear him over the music that always played loudly. He didn’t hear any music playing loud, but that wasn’t strange, Ashton had the room soundproofed soon after Jesse had moved in because she couldn’t deal with the loud rock n’ roll music.
There was no answer so he opened the door slowly and was shocked by what he saw. Her normally completely destroyed room was completely organized, not one paint brush or paint pot out of place. On her elaborate bedspread was a folded up piece of paper with his name scrawled in her pretty cursive script.
Blake,
I know you’re not going to understand why I am doing what I am doing but at least I can hope you will try. I’ve gone to do what I do best. Please don’t look for me.
Love,
Jesse
His hands shook as he finished reading the note. He was the only one who knew what she meant, and he knew she meant it to be that way. She felt he was the only one who needed an explanation.
“Mama! Ashton!” he yelled tearing out of the room like his hair was on fire after mother or aunt.
He found ashton first, well ran into her was more of an accurate description, literally.
“Woah Blake! What’s wrong?” she asked her brows knitted together in confusion.
“Read this?” he said thrusted the paper in her surprised face.
Her dark blue eyes scanned over the paper, “Well that doesn’t sound good.”
“It isn’t. The thing she does best,” he paused, “is vanish.”
