/> I stood ram rod straight when a threatening scent came to me. I growled jumping the river to run after her. I burst from the ferns into a clearing where she was. She flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder and walked forward as I growled at her.

“Come now is that how you great you little sister?”

“Kina.” I growled.

She looked just like she had three hundred years ago. It was something I never figured out. When I started to age after four hundred she stayed young. But she would still die when she reached five hundred like another Royal wolf. Of course she was a human with the blood line; she was a rare case in Royal wolf history. She was a child of the absolute alpha who inherited nothing from the bloodline but a long life. I took a step forward growling at her to leave.

“Go away Kina, now!” I said using a commanding tone.

She flinched back from my alpha tone and glared. She whispered to me and left, her words hung in the air putting me on edge.

“For now big sister for now you win, but don’t think this is over, I will have her.”

Warning to Late

It was only yesterday that I encountered my sister. I was on edge watching my surroundings more than normal. Every rustling leaf or moving bush was suspicious. I could never tell Indura about Kina but I could tell someone who I trust to stay by her side forever and protect her. Right on time Spirit walked in rubbing his blonde head smiling at me.

“Aunty you wanted me?”

“Yes Spirit I’m afraid the time has come sooner than I would have liked.”

He froze staring at me then rushed to my side. He hugged my leg tightly crying into it. I sympathized with him nuzzling his shoulder to reassure him. I trusted him with the truth about my end coming near and about Kina. He pulled back whipping away the remaining tears so he could but on a brave face. He looked so cute with his little dimples and angry pout.

“What do I have to do?”

“Spirit I know this is asking a lot but,” I paused closing my eyes, “I fear Kina will attach soon. I want you to take Indura away with you to Maka. She will know what to do from there. Just tell her the time has come.”

His lower lip quivered as he nodded. I dismissed him then resting by the picture of my family before Kevin died. If I knew my sister she would act in the next day or so. Hopefully Spirit will have Indura away by then, and they will grow up safely. I heard a crash then a scream as Spirit called out my name in panic.

Intruder

The scene I found horrified me a Royal wolf loomed over Indura. Spirit was bleeding but he still forced himself in-between her and the wolf. He sifted growling at the massive wolf as it tried to kill Indura. My eyes found Indura holding her bleeding arm and side and I became furious. He

Hurt my daughter! I finally made it to them at that time, knocking the Wolf away.

“Spirit now!” I shouted over my shoulder at him.

I focus back on the wolf in front of me as he lunged for my throat. I dodged taking his leg in my jaws and flipping him. I could sense Indura’s soul fading and I made the mistake of looking over to her. She was in a pool of blood as pale as the moon and lifeless as a rock. I was panicked she was dying and I had to deal with this Royal wolf. Speaking of the Royal wolf intruder, Kina’s scent was all over him.

I turned and lunged at him intending to kill so I could help Indura. I felt something impale me and looked down to see a man with buzzed black hair and a mustache holding a spear. I fell backwards;

I didn’t think he would shift back to his human form, or have a spear.

My body hit the ground hard knocking the wind out of me. A horrible howl came out of my chest as I felt death close in on me. I rolled to my side I had to keep going till Spirit got Indura out of here. I flopped to the ground with the spear still in me, I could see Indura. She was in Spirit’s lap still dying, her soul almost gone.

Spirit was crying attempting to use his soul to bring her back. He was to inexperience with soul exchange he would never make it in time.

But I can.

I closed my eyes as the man, now a wolf again, let out a hot breath on my neck as he bit into it killing me.

“She’s dead.” He told me.

Soul Exchange

In the second it took him to kill me I had pulled my soul from my doomed body. The ball shape of my white red flecked soul flew to my daughter. I entered her chest and her body gasped for air arching upwards as our souls fought to combine and resonate. The white of our souls merged and I was thrown into darkness where Indura and my soul took on our human forms. For once it didn’t hurt to be human.

“Little one wake up.” I said.

I stroked Indura’s soul cheek trying to make it flicker back to life. It was so small and dim now as I held her in my arms like I had wanted to for so long. I didn’t have much time till it faded. Something brushed me and I was flung out of the dark back to her body where I was fighting to link up.

No not now,

she was rejecting me because she was dying.

Spirit can you hear me?

I need help.

I left my daughter’s body and went to Spirits. His blue soul was blazing with sorrow. I latched on to it letting the red flecks flow through his soul and make the resonance ink between him and Indura form. I took that as a bridge to enter the dark again.

Spirit came with me this time cradling Indura’s soul. I could see the sparks arc between them even thou her soul was so weak. I reached out again and force my life into her. A scream rang out from her body and Spirit screamed too. Indura’s body would feel pain because her soul was being combined with mine so she would revive.

But Spirit’s scream puzzled me, at least until my existence disappeared into Indura and she took in air again. Small red flecks of my soul stayed with her till her own was fully revived. It allowed me to see the resonance link between them. Black flecks ran to Spirit embedding in his soul,

she was awakening and trying to mark him to her.

I flung my red flecks to Spirit and shield his soul. Indura was too young to do this right she would kill him. I knew she wasn’t doing it on purpose but it was merely her soul needing more energy and since they were linked right now it was trying to take some from him. I shielded his soul by letting mine be taken away fully. It was the one thing I could do for them in the end.

“I love you.” My soul sang to them both before it disappeared forever.
