My entry for the Young Writer of the year contest.
“Hey Boss, have you heard from Chino lately?” I had asked the last time that I was called in.
Boss looked up at me from his seat. It didn’t matter if he was sitting or standing, being near Boss made my stomach clench. If I stayed in a room with him for too long, the sharp predator look in his sunken grey eyes made me feel like a rat in a cage.
“Chino who?” Boss had responded.
I remember that cold sweat dripped down my back, matting my t-shirt to my skin.
Life isn't sweet, but it doesn't have to be completely bitter. It is what we make of it and these poems and stories try to portray just that.That is why I have titled this book Dulces de Coco or Coconut Candies.
This is a combination of the stories and poems that I have written. Many of the pieces in this book are inspired by my childhood, the stories my relatives have told me and my culture.
Ashley is attending a new school and she seemed to fit in. Then she makes one small mistake and her school life is flipped upside down. Will it be too much and push her off edge?

Kayleih she was the most sweet girl a guy or women could ever known. manners, polite, most people in highschool called her " Miss too goodie" untill something caused her to change can she be healed?
I hated them. all of them. and now im free.

Diana is a 15 year old girl who crack addicted died. He father is an drunk, who sell drugs. Sometime she stay at her Aunties house, with her Auntie husband. Will she find an escape or she will she just be another her girl living in the south side of Chicago.
Some people are afraid of what they have yet to understand, and like many, Raychelle was someone many would categorize as misunderstood. At a younger age than most, losing her mother affected both her brother and her father. While some may turn to alcohol to dim the emotional pain, her father, Glenn, found another strategy. Living with an angry tempered and bitter man began to affect Raychelle as well and the fear she lived within daily began to play twisted jokes on her head. One day, when the games continue to go on too far, she's placed in a local hospital. Her brother, Tyler, not able to handle seeing his sister go through so much pain takes her away. With the two sharing secrets from one another, lies are shared and secrets are uncovered between the two. Who knew one could hold such promise?
