Kimmi Miller is 14 years old and lives in San Francisco, California with her mom, Brenda, her dad Thomas and her black cat Smoky.
Kimmi dresses like a rock star and loves to listen to rock music.
She also likes to play the piano and takes lessons from an older lady named Mrs. Storkelson, who has two twin granddaughters that are ten years old. They think that Kimmi is weird and often call her mean names. However, through it all, Kimmi always has something nice to say to them.
Kimmi goes to Westchester High and is in 9th grade.
She isn’t very popular and everyone tries to get her into trouble.
The only person who likes her is her best friend, Naomi Martin, an Indian girl who is also unpopular and made fun of.
She moved to America from India when she was 3 years old. Naomi is now 14 ½ and she her mom and little baby sister, Kami, loves America and have already made plans for the near future.
Naomi’s dad died when she was very young, so Naomi has a hard time remembering him.
Her mother, Nalla, often talks about how handsome and kind he was and how much of a hard worker he was. Knowing this, Naomi came to respect her father even though she was too young to remember him.
After school, Naomi goes over to Kimmi’s house and hangs out.
Sometimes, Naomi brings some of her family’s scrapbooks containing things about her life in India and Kimmi would bring out her family’s scrapbooks and show them with Naomi.
Although Kimmi and Naomi are both very different, they are the best of friends and life couldn’t be better.
