Safire heaved, rolling as pain as the foal came. Mau, the like-a-shaman horse of the herd rushed up to Safire, helping her as the foal was delivered by Bejin, the human friend the herd had along with the rest of the humans.

A few minutes later I was struggling to breathe as a human helped me and my dam struggled to get up. My sire had been right there when I was born, nuzzling my dam for comfort. I saw a pair of legs, could they possibly belong to me? Yes, they did! I tried standing up, struggling but the human helped me again, my black coat and the white star on my forehead gleaming from the light. As soon as I was standing, I tried to walk, I did fall instantly but everyone thought it was funny as I let out a surprised snort! I Tried again, managing a few steps then fell again. "Get up, little one
." My dam said, nuzzling me and helping me to stand again. A girl pointed at me and said my name she had chosen, Midnight's Star.
As I heard my name, I pricked my ears and nuzzled her hand carefully, not knowing her well but she praised me and gave me pats of happiness and loving rubs. I snorted when a small butterfly landed on my nose and the girl laughed. My dam snorted out a laugh and nuzzled me to the rest of the herd as the girl waled away. I was loving my life already as the humans' herded us into the pasture and the girl appeared again, looking at me through the bars of the fence, smiling. I trotted over to her and nuzzled her, realizing she was my friend.
I began playing with balls and ropes, and she started halter training me and I accepted it completely, for I had racer in my blood, all fully trained of my ancestors. I snorted at the bit, but she had though of that. I took it eagerly when I smelled the apple on it, finding it had been tainted with apple juice, to get me to accept it and I did, I got used to it. I ran with the bit and bridle and halter whenever I would, or really could for I yearned for it now.
I began to run with the herd and my foal fuzz was little now, barely there. The girl stroked me and so did her sister who let out a bad cough and my ears pricked at this sound. Her sister merely shrugged at her. I found out my girls name was Alice, I didn't really know it but I know who she was at least.
The next few days I saw less of Alice's sister, and less, and less. One day I didn't see and that went for the next month. "Mother,
" I asked, "What happened to my girls sister?
" I finished asking. My mother stared at the farmhouse and snorted. "None of your concern, dear.
" My mother said, a string of concern in her voice.
The next month was the same and then I saw it. I saw Alice and her mother crying, and talking about something. I pricked my ears and caught their conversation. "I miss her so much," Alice cryed. "I know, sweety, I know." Her mother said, half crying half sighing. Alice ran over to me and hugged me and I nuzzled her should, sort of knowing what was going on. Alice's sister had had cancer, and she had unfortunately passed because of it. Alice had a weak smile on her face as she hugged me. Her mother went and patted my dam and she sighed, too.
Dragon, only a puppy, ran up to me and tried to play with me. I snorted and accidentely got my bridle stuck on the railing, pulling my mouth and tearing it the slightest. Alice had been distracted, and instantly was at me when she saw me, carefully helping me and helping me to my mother and herd. Mau, nickered to me and I nickered back. A filly my age hid behind her mother when I saw her and I tolted over to her, trying to get her to play with me. She snorted and ran off, leaving me sad as I went to play with Nikera, a colt my age and we jumped some of the twigs for fun then galloped around the pasture for a while before saying goodbye and returned to out mothers.
I yawned. It was late. I fell asleep very fast, my mom? Grazing. As usual. Typical mother. Morning came soon enough and at first light, I was already running around. I nickered to Nikera (AKA Mr. Play), and I ran around in circles around him.
