“Tommy!” my tense voice killed the silence. “Where are you?” No answer. The trees were dancing on the ground. I didn’t like the game anymore. Tommy was gone and I was left here to find him. “Tommy?!” once again I waited for an answer. And once again there was no answer. Why didn’t he answer me? Was he lost? Or was he just playing with me? I looked up at the sky. There were a lot of stars. Maybe he was just gone to the roof?
I found the stairs and started the long trip to the roof. “Tommy?!” my voice was panicking. I didn’t like the roof. Why did he like it? He had talked so much about some voices inside his head. Maybe he wanted them to stop by jumping?
I just kept on walking. The heaven was full of stars and I looked up. It was so big. Like a big carpet. And if it should fall down on me, it would shine so much that it would look like a thousand suns. While my mind was thinking about the heaven I kept on going. And finally I reached the top.
There in the middle of the roof a circle was drawn. Tommy was inside it. The night was broken by the candles there was around him. It was like there wasn’t any wind inside the circle. What was going on? I didn’t know what to do. Suddenly he just collapsed. A dark shadow was rising above him. It went right through him(!?). The dark shadow gave me shivers. My hands were shaking so much that I thought they were going to run away. And my heartbeat was so fast that it could be in a marathon. Once again I looked at Tommy. Was he okay? I wanted to help him. But my body couldn’t move.
Normally I wouldn’t believe in ghosts, but lately there has been weird things going on. There were footsteps on the stairs, not mine, not Tommy’s or our parents. There where sounds at night. And yesterday Tommy said that he had heard the ghost. I just thought Tommy was kidding, and playing scared. And right now Tommy lay on the ground with a big dark shadow rising up above him.
It was like a movie on standby. I just stood there. But finally my legs would answer me. I hurried over to him. Hold his head in my hands. First now I realized I cried. “Tommy,” it was nothing but a whisper. The dark shadow was gone the moment I went into the circle. “Tommy,” I couldn’t stop whispering his name.
I think I hold his head in my hands for hours. And suddenly his eyes opened. “Tommy?” it was still just a whispering. But he seemed to hear it. “Are you there?” I kept talking. He didn’t answer. “I’m so sorry, I saw the ghost, if it was a ghost.” I don’t know how long I talked. But after a while he smiled to me. “It is okay sis, I forgive you. You saved me.” I couldn’t believe what he was saying.
After that day we moved. The castle was hunted and I couldn’t stay there to see Tommy get hurt again. But the castle was our home. We had played hide and seek many times. All the places we could hide. I’ll always remember the castle. It was my home for many years. But that day on the roof I changed my mind. I got scared of the castle and now I live in the city.
