“Hey guys wait for me” Arun shouted behind us, as I and Cyrus left him behind and headed forward to start hiking.
It was a nice and pleasant morning at a place somewhere near Mussoorie, surrounded by Garhwal Himalayan ranges, quite away from civilization. We all three were there for some trekking and hiking experience. Our school vacations had just started, and unlike all other vacations this time we wanted to do something real adventurous and this place suited us best for all that sort of activity.
Arun came running and stopped to catch his breath on reaching us, and then he perched his bulky body on the ground. “Whoa! Looks like you lost certain kilos” Cyrus said mockingly. Unlike Arun, Cyrus is a quite smart and sturdy guy and is often successful in getting the attention of his female mates.
“Hey, why you guys didn’t wake me up?” Arun questioned. “We tried to wake you up, but you were not willing to get up so we thought that it would be better to let you have your beauty sleep” I replied.“Err… I agree that I am not a morning guy, but I can sacrifice my sleep for some adventurous go through” said Arun. “Come on guys lets hit the track now” Cyrus declared.
Three hours had passed since we started our journey and we all were fatigued by that time so we decided to rest a bit and took shelter under a tree. “So what do we have for breakfast, I am ready to eat” said Arun. “Is there a time when you aren’t” Cyrus commented. “What's the problem with you man. You are always after my life.” Arun complained. “Hey guys we are here to have some fun, not to fight with each other.” I said in an attempt to make some peace. “By the way we have sandwiches for our breakfast” Arun’s face brightened up on hearing this. I took out the sandwiches out of my bag distributed among all of us.
After we finished our meal we again started to hike. Not much time had passed before we noticed a warehouse.“I thought that this place was away from human settlement” said Cyrus.
Just then two trucks arrived at the warehouse. Two men got off from each truck and started unloading something. We were quite far away to make out what the thing was, so we moved little closer for a better look. As we got closer our jaws dropped on watching what really the thing was. These men were unloading cartons full of gold biscuits. They opened the warehouse and started placing the cartons inside it. After watching all this we knew one thing for sure, that some sort of smuggling was going on there and we had to do something about it.“We should go back and tell the authorities about it.” I told my friends.“It would take a lot of time if we go back walking.” Said Cyrus.“So what to do now?” I interrogated.“I think we should get into one of their trucks.” Cyrus improvised. We waited for all four men to go inside the warehouse and on seeing the right opportunity we all three quietly slid into one of the trucks. Luckily the key was there only, Cyrus took the driver’s seat and started the truck. On hearing the engine’s sound the men came out running, but till then we had commenced. They started following us in the other truck. It was a little tough to drive in the woods but I won’t say that Cyrus was doing bad. He had been able to maintain a good lead till then. I took out the map of the area to make sure if we were heading in the right direction. Suddenly our truck hit a tree slowing down a little and now we were driving in parallel to the other truck. As those men got beside us they opened fire. We all ducked for our lives. Just then I noticed a shotgun lying down. I signaled Cyrus to slow down and let them go ahead. As soon as we got behind them I peeked out of the window aiming the gun at truck’s Tyre. I had only two shots. The first bullet I fired missed the Tyre by inches. “Now only one left” I thought. I aimed again with full concentration and pulled the trigger, “Bull’s eye” this time I had hit the right spot making the truck Tyre flat.
We zoomed past them and soon we were on a smooth concrete road in between civilization. “I think we made it, those men can't do much now” Arun said happily. I and Cyrus nodded our heads in agreement. In no time we were at the nearest police station with the truck and the gold. There we told everything we knew to officer Shah, the chief in charge. After we had finished he left us at the police station and headed towards the warehouse we had mentioned.
Two or three hours later the chief was back with all four men handcuffed. He thanked us for helping the police against crime and also told us they had confiscated the gold.
The next day we were on the way back home when Cyrus said “Guys this was some adventure.” “Yup! Some real adventure” I replied, and we all passed each other a majestic smile.
