Hardly anyone had shown up to group that evening. I decided to take those that did to my favorite park and hold the group there. It was already dark and there wasn’t anyone at the park that night. The topic for the evening was “Discovering your Inner Child”. We explored the fact that many of us had our childhoods stolen because we were too busy trying to be someone we weren’t. Attempting to hide any signs of femininity were meshed with our earliest of memories. It was a weight that many of us had to carry from a very early age. That child inside still longed to be free.

So after the discussion I asked them to play a quick game of “freeze tag” and “duck duck goose” with me. At first they were hesitant, and felt almost silly doing it. I reminded them that we were alone at the park and so they played along. It wasn’t long before everyone made their way to the swings and playground set. I sat back and watched from a short distance. Grown men… running, screaming, laughing and playing. Their inner child was free to play without judgment and it was probably the most free they’ve ever played in their entire lives.
