âOnly joking lads, have fun in your new rooms new students.â He said smiling. A knock came and Zoe steps in, âHi,â She says as we all bow.
âMay I stay with my heroes for a little while?â She asks. âSure, since your royalty.â Sir Kayden said as he excuses himself to go see the other the Knights.
âMy heroes.â She says teasing. We all hug her. Paul wouldnât let go though. We all had to force him off of her. âExcited no?â she asks.
âVery excited milady.â Christian bows again then looks up to see Abigail. âGood-evening master Christian.â Abigail said bowing her head.
Still low, Christian straightens himself and stammers a hello. She and Zoe laughed! âWe better go.â Zoe said as they all say good-bye.
âWhat is that?â Garret asks Rohan. âMy knives. It is necessary for Rangers to have them.â Rohan explains. âBut only knights are aloud, so you shouldnât be here!â Vincent accuses.
âThe handbook did say only knights and squires are aloud to attend The Knights of Chivalry.â Christian said.
âI know what the handbook said, I read it myself. Anyway Iâm only here during festivals, meals, tournaments, balls, and night times.â Rohan explains.
âStill we are going to tell Sir Kayden.â Garret taunts. I want to say something but my mouth wouldnât let me. âGo ahead heâll only listen to the royals other teachers and me.â Rohan said.
âWhy?â I ask as everyone gathers around him. âSir Kayden. Is my father.â Rohan explains grinning.
Classes
As we walk down the halls for history, I had to ask, âHow is Sir Kayden your father?â
âWell my father married and mother and they had meâŠâ He explains then asks uncertain, âDo you want me to explain exactly how they did it?â
We did a chorus of NO! âHello son,â Sir Kayden walks up. âHeading towards history, bad luck.â
âWhy is that sir?â Garret asks. Sighing he said, âYou have Sir Havarti York as your teacher and trust me you donât want to get him too mad.â I started thinking what Sir Havarti would think of us. Not a pretty picture.
âWell I wonât want you guys to be late.â Sir Kayden said as he leaves. âSir Havarti⊠sounds like Garretâs brother so something.â Christian says as we open the door to I think hell number 2.
âI am Sir Havarti York. But you must call me Sir York. Today we will be studying the founders of Chivalry. Richard Silverback, Grayson Winter, and Gerard Evergreen.â Sir Havarti says in a gloomy voice.
âRichard Silverback,â Havarti starts as we all open our books. âThe leader of the pack but not the oldest. He was of noble blood. Heir to the throne of France.â We all took notes just in case thereâs going to be a quiz.
âGrayson Winter was headmaster of another school for boys. He was also the commander of the French Army.â Sir Havarti explains then goes on to the last man.
âGerard Evergreen he was a pirate king. Terence,â Havarti says to me.
âAre you related to the pirate king?â He asks. âI donât think so sir.â I said uncertain.
He continued on, âThere is not much said about Gerard Evergreen except by Sir Richardâs letters that he was a great man who died a terrible death, more terrible than the black plague.â
âWhat cold be more terrible than the black plague?â I thought writing this stuff down.
After the lesson Sir Havarti gave us some work and dismisses us to fencing class. Everyone there from different classes was crowding around to see a private lesson. It didnât look like fencing, it looked more like archery.
âWho the heck could it be?â Prospero Fawner from year 3 asks. I noticed all the Knights were smiling and so was Prince Julian.
âAnd to think she couldnât hit a dead on target.â Sir Thomas says to the other Knights. I bet everyone caught that.
âOkay my class is here so we will pick this up later okay?â Sir Nicholas said bowing. The figure turns around to bow back and to everyoneâs surprise the figure was not a he but a she!
âZoe!â Liam Bennington from year fourth says surprised.
âGirls should stick to sewing, embroidery, and music.â Vincent shouts out. That was a mistake for Zoe heard it, turned around bow and arrow at the ready.
âSay that again, and you wonât be here ever again.â She threatens lowering her bow and giving it back to Sir Nicholas.
âNow, we will do what I call advance-retreat-lung-advance-retreat. Can you all do that?â Sir Nicholas asks as we all did exactly as he told us. âI have a question,â Rohan asks raising his hand.
Sir Nicholas nods in approval. Rohan continues on, âWell why are the upper years doing this with us?â
âThatâs a good question, we have a tournament soon. But donât tell his majesty I said that. He doesnât know weâre having it in a week.â Sir Nicholas explains as we continue our training.
After our training we are allow to take a break until our next lesson. Dancing. Rohan, on the other hand had to go meet us with his master, the ranger so he doesnât get a break.
âI hear that the girls in the kingdom are going to help us with the dancing.â Derek Butler of year 2 says.
âI hope I get Diana.â Vincent says dreamily. âSo Vincent fancies Diana.â I thought. âThe prince would probably dance with his sister as always.â Bryan Reinhous of fourth year says as everyone in year 3 and 4 agree.
The dancing is taught by both Sir Quinton and Lady Celesta. Sir Quinton was making us all laugh because of his âdancing.â
Smiling brightly, Lady told each and every one of us to take a ladiesâ hand. To everyoneâs surprise, Zoe walks up to me.
âWill you be my partner?â She asks as I saw Prince Julian take Lady Cassandraâs hand. âSure milady.â I said taking her hand.
I noticed a huge grin on Christianâs face as he finally took Abigailâs hand. âShe doesnât like men very much. Her father abandoned her and her brother died in battle.â Zoe whispers to me. I felt sorry for her.
âHusband, will you turn on the music?â Lady Celesta asks as Sir Quinton went over to turn on the music. Watching what they were doing, we did the same.
To my surprise Christian, for being an orphan was an excellent dancer. Rohan came back and asks Lady Rose to dance.
They had been friends for a really long time. After the dancing we all went to eat. I wonder what theyâre serving today.
âSo what is the tournament exactly?â Christian asks, taking a bite out of a turkey leg. I also want to know and so does everyone else.
âWell,â Fernando Greywacke of fourth year starts. âEvery year we hold the tournament in three different schools. We do the fencing challenge; The Shield of Arms School does the dancing, and lastly the Cross Swords School does the maze which contains lots of things you canât imagine.â
After he explains it to us he took a piece of pork from Garret who didnât seem to notice. âWow the last one sounds intense.â Rohan said.
âI wonder who is invited?â I ask. âOh, everyone. Rangers, knights, royals, assassins.â Rohan explains.
âAssassins! Arenât they the enemy?â Paul asks hearing our conversation. âYes it is tradition, I just wonder if weâre going to have some hunters this time.â Rohan wonders out loud.
I turn to see Zoe and sheâs got a worry face on her. âWhatâs with the face?â I thought sipping some wine which I didnât care for.
âWhy does Lady Zoe look worry?â Christian asks as we head back to our rooms. âProbably because she noticed you drooling.â Vincent teases him.
âAh that wasnât the reason.â Raleigh Princeton, son of Viscount Richard Princeton. âThanks.â I thought as he continues to talk to them which gave us a chance to lock our door before more humiliation can occur.
âI swear by my own grave, one day. Iâm going to give them hell.â Adam Princeton, Raleighâs younger twin brother declares. âYou forgot something.â I said.
âWhat is that?â he asks raising an eyebrow. âEven though we follow the Code of Chivalry we still have other rules and rule number twelve states that we shouldnât give comrades whether we like them or not hell.â Rohan explains grabbing his bow and arrow. â
Heading off to the rangers?â Christian asks.
âYes I am, after I talk to my father first.â Rohan said heading out. âI wonder what rangers do?â Adam wonders out loud. I thought the same thing.
âBoy you are not holding it right.â Galion said as Horace tries to position the knives the right way.
âStill wrong. Like this.â Galion explains showing how to hold the knives properly. Finally Horace got it right.
âFather, Rohanâs here.â Septimus says as they stop to see Rohan put his stuff on the grass. âIâm here master, what did I miss?â Rohan ask.
âNothing much except that Horace, doesnât know how to hold a knife.â Galion says as Horace grins nervously. âDonât worry about it. Knives werenât meant for you, besides, youâre a dead on shooter.â Rohan says as Horace smiles proudly, picks up his bow and arrow and shoots a target which looks like an Assassin.
âNever miss a target.â He declares as Galion motions his son to call a servant boy. âLetâs see how our archery skills go with on horses.â He said the servant boy comes with some horses.
While sewing the girls were looking very
