My Name Is Hadley
My name is Hadley. What kind of name is that for a girl? My hair is pulled back in braids,I have freckles across the bridge of my nose. With my hand clenched tightly I rap on the monstrous door, barely making a sound. Not willing to give up, I close the screen and wedge myself on the ledge to reach the bell. Leaning over, balancing against the screen, I let my finger pound the bell. Then ever so carefully I step down and wait. I can hear the sound of footsteps approaching, and then the gigantic door swings open.
“You know better. You’ll have to go to the back
door.”
“Why?" I said.
“I have boarders, and this is the door they use.”
“You live downstairs. Now go to the backdoor." Looking past her neatly pressed dress I can see the door to the basement. I can be ever so fast and run right past her.I look up with my pleading blue eyes and say.
“Please."
This has no effect on her. I can’t sway her. She towers over me and there is no sympathy for me. I love her and don’t understand why she insists I use the back entry as she shuts the door. I am like a tree planted at the door, and I am not leaving.
I proceed to ring the doorbell again, and I will not stop until I walk through the front door and down the hall to the basement.
I did
win, and it is because I was like that dripping water and I did not stop. I love my grandma and I smile over my victory. I won this one.
