Dear Diary,

I am writing very messily right now because I want to put this down quickly.
My ankle aches and I am scared, very scared.
I will start from the beginning and explain what has happened...
My family and I are on vacation at the Bahamas and Mom told me NOT to go off into the forest by myself...I did anyway.
I brought you, diary, to write down everything I saw, smelled, and touched, and to sketch interesting things I saw.
I walked deeper and deeper into the forest, looking at all the interesting things around me.
I didn't notice that the ground dropped dramatically right infront of me and fell down and hurt my ankle. My ankle hurt very badly and I couldn't walk. I don't know if my ankle is broken but it sure feels like it!
I happened to land next to a tree with long, thick, strong leaves. I pulled some off the tree and wrapped a few around my ankle to keep it in place. My ankle feels a little better because of that.
I guess all I can do now is wait for my parents to realise that I am missing. Oh, how I wish I had brought my cell phone! Then I could at least call them and tell them where I am.
All I have with me is my little green bag, a water bottle, three granola bars, and you.
Well, I am very tired from this long day so I am going to go to sleep now. The sun is setting anyway.
Bye.

Dear Diary,

To my luck, when I woke up this morning, only a few bugs were on me and as soon as I moved they flew off. I was afraid that I would wake up with bugs crawling all over me!
Anyway, my foot feels much better now. I can take a few steps without it hurting much.
Last night I was in such a panic that I had forgotten that I hadn't eaten since lunch! Right now, I am VERY hungry!!! I ate one granola bar to try to make the hunger die down a little but I am still hungry. Since I do not know how long I will be in this forest, I need to save the other two granola bars just in case. I also drank a few sips from my water bottle.
I need to go search for food of some sort.
I will stop writing now so that I can search.

Later...

I have been searching for so long and finally found some berries. They look ripe and fresh and ready-to-eat. I picked one and poured a tiny bit of water from my water bottle onto it to wash it off. After that, I took a bite and it tasted WONDERFUL!!! I picked some berries and put them into my green bag for later, then I picked and ate and picked and ate for a very long time until my bag was halfway full and my stomach was completely full.
Not until I stopped did I notice that I didn't feel that good anymore.
Yeah, the berries taste AMAZING, but I ate too many and now I feel sick.
I am going to stay here for the rest of the day because my ankle is starting to hurt again.
Tomorrow I'll try to find more food or a better shelter. All I have right now is a big tree to lean against and it's huge leavees to cover me.
Well, I am going to stop writing now and get some rest...maybe eat another granola bar.
Bye for now.

Dear Diary,

I ate another granola bar last night before going to sleep. Now I only have 1 left. I MUST find more food! Also, two-thirds my water is gone.
I am even more scared now that I don't have many supplies left.
I walked a long way today and have found no food I can reach. I will NOT eat another granola bar...I have set my mind to that. I will keep it for a worse time if there is one.
Right now I am resting against a Coconut Palm Tree that has many ripe coconuts. How I wish I hadn't hurt my ankle! Then I might be able to climb up the tree and get a coconut to break against a rock.
My water is almost completely gone and I am EXTREMELY thirsty. I need to find fresh water of some kind soon or else I will DIE of thirst. I am trying to save my water for later so I only drink two small sips when I feel like I wil pass out from thirst.
This method is VERY unhealthy for me, but it might keep me alive until I find a freshwater stream or something. Later today, I will search for water and shelter. Hopefully I will find 1 of them before nighttime. I am going to rest now then search for shelter and water.

Later...

AT LAST!!! I have found shelter! There is a clearing with tall trees all around that bend into a dome-shaped ceiling which is very strange, but I don't care! It provides me wonderful shelter, and that is all I care about right now.
There is only one spot where no tree is and that one spot lets in enough sun for me to use to write in you.
Well, the light is starting to fade now, so I am going to stop writing and go to sleep.
Good Night!

Dear Diary,

RAIN!!! IT RAINED LAST NIGHT!!!
After I stopped writing in you, I happened to fall asleep with my arm under that hole in my leaf ceiling and woke up in the middle of the night to rain pouring onto my arm! I quickly fished my water bottle out of my bag and put it where my arm was.
It filled to the top then started to overflow!
I quickly drank two bottles full of water then let it fill up again.
By that time, the rain had ceased to a drizzle then stopped all together.
I then ate some berries and fell asleep again.
I feel happier than I ever have before! I feel so lucky! I am no longer thirsty, have plenty of water, my ankle feels as if it is almost healed, I have food to last while, a shelter, and of course I have you! If I didn't have you, Diary, I am certain I would have gone insane by now! I would have no one to talk to at all and would end up talking to myself!
Speaking of talking...I have noticed that I am silent nowdays. Since there is no one to talk to anymore, I just keep silent. I didn't notice it at first, but now I do.
Oh, how I want to see my friends again! How I want to see my family again! But also, how I wish to stay here forever...
I don't know how to explain this, but I am in LOVE with this forest and it's beauty. It's beauty is so emmense that it is unimaginable!
Well, now I am going to eat some berries then look for water...at least now I am not in a panic to find it anymore. I am probably going to search until night so I will not write in you until tomorrow.
Good Bye!

Dear Diary,

I found no water, but did find some more berries. They are a deep purple and the juice is thick like ink. They are DISGUSTING! They taste rotten and have a small pit in the middle like a cherry.
I kept some and put them in a pocket on the front of my bag. They might come in handy somehow.
I am going to search for water again today. I am glad that I have half a water bottle full of water left. It can last for today and if I am careful it can last for two days.
I am glad that I have the huge kind of water bottle that is a little more than a foot tall. If I had brought the little kind...I would have probably DIED of thirst by now!
My foot feels healed, but I still pull leaves off of trees that are the same kind as the one I fell next to and wrap my foot in it. I change the bandage everyday.
Well, I am going to eat a few of the good tasting berries then look for water.
I will write in you when I get back.

Later...

No water. Not even a single drop.
I didn't find any water and the water in my water bottle is almost gone.
I am very nervous. I HAVE to find water soon.
If I don't find water soon, then all my water will be gone and I will become too weak to even search.
If I do find water, I will need more than just a single bottle to hold it in.
Well, I am going to get some rest now. I need it for tomorrow. Tomorrow I am going to drink the rest of my water and I need to find some more.
Good night.

March 6,2011

Dear Diary,

I finished my water bottle and have found no water. I cannot write much today becuase I need to go search for water.
All I have to say is that I should've listen to my Mom! After I am rescued (if I ever am!) then I will ALWAYS listen to my parents...ALWAYS.

I should have also been thankful for what I had. At home I had plenty of clean, fresh water from a filter, a fridge full of food, a soft bed, a huge shelter (compared to what I have now), and many other things.
Well, I am going to go search for water. Bye.

March 7, 2011

Dear Diary,

No water, but I remembered the COCONUTS!!!

The coconuts from before when I couldn't walk much and I was saying how I wish I could climb the tree!
I climbed up it and fell down many times and got scratches and bruises, but it was TOTALLY worth it!
I think they are ripe (I am not sure because I don't know much about coconuts) but I haven't been able to open them. I am going to search for big sharp rocks to try to drop it on. Maybe that will work.
I need to get going quickly...I am EXTREMELY thirsty and I NEED that coconut juice.
I will write in you tomorrow.
Bye.

-Elizabeth

P.S. I am starting to lose hope that I will ever be rescued...I am SURE that Mom and Dad sent rescue parties and everything, but I wish they would find me already!
Also, it might be my fault they can't find me. I have been wandering around alot and I may be going deeper and deeper in the forest without knowing it.
Oh, I hope they find
