Hi, my name is River Rivera. I don’t have a lot of time so I’m just going to say it. Its totally up to you if you believe me or not. The world we live in is not as normal as it seems, over the past couple years me and my friends have discovered creatures that are not supposed to exist. Including typhoon, hydras, yetis, nemean lions, and so much more. So we’ve decided to destroy them all before people start figuring out they exist. I just found out our family has been killing monsters since the 1700’s. We have magic in our blood that lets us see the beast we go into battle with. Normal people, or ‘dinarios’, as I call them have no notice of beasts because they don’t have the magic in their blood. Since my friends aren’t in the family line. I’ve built a looking glass that is made out of sapphire and gold so when you put them on you see the monsters clearly as a blue sky. I’ve also made it water proof also so you can see the beasts that live underwater. And underwater monsters are how my story begins. So lets take you back to the day when I found out what’s in my blood and how this world isn’t as normal as it appears to be.
“Were going to have so much fun today!” Exclaimed Aphrodite.
“I know, your house is huge River!” said Iris. We turned the corner and my house came into view. My house was pretty big, pretty ancient too. It was a four story house with the biggest backyard you could dream of. And a garden my mom loved almost as much as me. Almost.
“River! Where have you been!”
yelled my mother from the front porch. As soon as I got up the stairs she crushed me with a bear hug.
“You took forever to get here.” My mother scowled.
“Calm down mom, we just took a long route back here.”
“Its okay Ms. Rivera, we were making sure she stayed out of trouble.” Aphrodite snickered.
“Shut up Aphrodite.” I cracked a smile.
“Well, come on in girls.” My mom said.
My friends and I went up stairs to my massive room. I plopped on to my bed with a sigh.
“What’s wrong with you?” asked Iris.
“Um…can I ask you guys a question?”
“Yeah, sure River.”
“do you guys ever feel different?” Aphrodite and Iris sat on the bed next to me.
“Well, doesn’t everybody?” asked Aphrodite.
“No, I just feel weird. Like I should be doing something more important than just going to school, doing my homework then repeating it the next day. I feel like im more important than that!”
“Conceited much?” Aphrodite mumbled under her breath.
I gave her the look.
“River!” Was that my abuela?
“River, we need to talk to you.”
That was my abuela! When did she get here? I rushed down the stairs to say hi. My friends followed me down.
I saw my mom and my grandma standing by the dining room table. There faces look worried. "abuela!” I rushed over to her and gave her a big hug. She smiled at me softly and ruffled my hair.
“my sweet granddaughter, how have you been?"
“ive been fine abuela. What did you guys need to talk to me about?” my mom looked uncomfortable. “Um… mami, what about her friends?” my mom asked abuela.
“they should hear too.” said abuela sternly. “they could help her in the long run.'
“What! But they’re dinaros!’
“What going on-” I was getting really confused my their conversation. And my friends looked mystified too.
"I have a plan." stated my abuela.
"A plan? What plan?" Asked my mom.
“JUST LISTEN!” yelled my abuela in a frustrated tone.
"River I think you should sit down. Aphrodite and Iris, you should too.” we all sat down cautiously I minds wandering.
What’s happening? What are you guys talking about? Im so confused-”
“River.” said my grandma seriously, “we will tell you everything you need to know. Just hear us out right now, okay?”
“okay.”
