Chapter 1

Crouching next to a gargoyle, I look out into the horizon of New York. Not my favorite place to be, too much traffic, but at night the city lights look like stars. I place my left arm on the head of the gargoyle and sigh while the cool breeze blew through me, I ma shirtless so the cool air does not bother me.

Standing up, I look one more time at the city before turning my back on the city, spreading my arms out, and fall. As I fell down to the ground, I could feel from the inside, my wings coming out of me.

I am half angel half vampire, my wings are black not white. I can heal and destroy, I drink blood and Holy water, my weakness is a Pentacle. Yes pentacles are my ultimate weakness.

“Darius!!!” I heard my mother calls just as my wings were fully spread. If I were to go up to the moon, people would have thought that there’s an eclipse. “Darius!!!” My mother calls again as I flew towards the direction of her call.

“Yes mother?” I ask not landing as I watch my mother spread her wings which were white and blinding but I do not mind. “Your father and both of our council are waiting for you Darius, it is time.” My mother explains as she helps me in and we both clipped our wings back.

I am at the age, when you are half blood; you have to make a choice, the age… nineteen. I am nineteen; it is time I made my choice whether I want to be a vampire, angel, or human.

“Darius Dangelo, half vampire half angel. You are now at the age of nineteen; it is time for you to think about which path you want to follow. Be sure to choose wisely lad.” Thorax, head of the Vampire Council explains as he steps down to let Gabriel, the Father’s right-hand man/messenger/mom’s ex-boyfriend say what he needed to say.

After the two head Councilors explained the rules to me which were: “don’t get too attached to anything or anyone, do not kill unless its necessary, do not reveal your identity to any human unless you choose to become one, and last of all… be sure to make your choice before the final night.

I bowed to the Head Councilors and head out with my parents right behind me. I open the door to the living room and sat down on my signature chair, my mom and dad sat together on the couch and we just looked at each other, we didn’t say anything until my father opened his mouth.

“Son you know that this is a very curtail moment and should not be taken lightly or for granted, people like you have done that in the past.” My father explains as I nod my head understanding every word he said.

I don’t really need to pack, I just needed my protective pendent which was given to my mother’s mother and my dagger which belonged to my great-great-great-great grandfather on my father’s side they were both handed down generation to generation.

Outside, the sky was still dark, it was three o’clock am the city lights were out and the actual stars were out. I saw a comet flew and I know exactly who it was. Yes the Stars and what not are like us too.

‘Hm I wonder how Leo and Emaly are doing.’ I thought knowing who Capricorn, Leo’s younger brother told me that Emaly gave up being a human to be a Bright Star, the most powerful and gorgeous Star ever.

“Be careful son make the wise decision.” My mother explains as we hugged and kiss. I stood in front of my father and we embraced before he had to leave. I then moved to stand next to my mother as we see him jump on the roof of the nearest building and started running as fast as he can.

My mother moved a little from me and spread her wings. We smiled and I told her to tell her kin I said good-bye; she nodded in agreement and flew off into the sky, leaving me alone in the dark with only the Stars as my guide.

I finally got to the nearest cemetery, we have several around here and I sat on one of the headstones. Again, the cool breeze went through me, making my hair fly a little, my shirt, and my wings anxious to be spread out.

I could not resist that, I took my shirt off and spread my wings. I was lucky enough to have a small bag so I put my shirt inside, zipped it up, and placed it behind me, through my arms.

I took off, not looking back, not going back until I made my choice. I only have a month, a month to decide whether I want to remain a vampire, an angel, or a human.
