Prologue

It was said that Shamans were people who had attained power from the gods. It was even said that some of them were children of the gods. There became speculation about the true nature of the Shamans powers when rumors reached their village about a group of warriors called ninjas who had powers very much like those of which the shamans themselves possessed. It was because of this this that the people had begun to doubt the gods they had worshipped for so long. The reason people began to doubt their gods was because only those who were said to have been blessed by the gods could have superhuman powers. In an attempt to keep the citizens of their village from losing their faith and incurring the wrath of the gods they persuaded the villagers that the group who called themselves ninjas had attained their power through dark arts and worshipping daemons. To make sure the people wouldn’t think of them as putting in a false theory about the ninjas the Shamans waged war on the Ninjas. This war marked the beginning of an era of darkness for all.

Chapter 1

I was laying down in a meadow next to my house and thinking about why I had blue eyes and was five feet six inches tall and why I was strongly built when I heard my father calling my name and telling me to hurry on back to the house. When I arrived at the house I saw my mom caring for a man they had laid on the table who looked like he had just got off a battlefield. I could tell that he was a shaman even though his cloths were mostly destroyed. “Karen bring me the medical alcohol” my father said to my sister. As she hurried to find the medical alcohol my father told me to help hold the man down while my mother took the sword part that had broken off inside of him out. My sister arrived just after my mother got the sword tip out, and gave her the medical alcohol which she poured some onto the wound where the sword had just been removed. The man screamed and struggled like he was fighting for his life. My mother gave him a sedative after using the alcohol on him and he was unconscious in less than a minute. As he was sleeping my sister sewed up a few of the wounds that had cleaned already. My mother began to clean and dress what wounds remained after my sister had finished sewing up the other wounds. When the man woke up three days later, after which we kept cleaning and redressing his wounds, the man told us he was the sole survivor of an ambush near dragons cove. He told us his name was George. It took him a few weeks to recover enough where he could walk around which surprised my mother who was shocked that he had recovered so fast. The day after he was able to walk he came up to me when my parents were out buying supplies from the local store. I asked him how he was doing and he replied saying he was fine but he there was something he had to tell me that was really important. I asked him what was it and he replied saying that the Shamans have become corrupt and have made a mistake. When I asked what the mistake was he said it was because the ninjas weren’t evil, it’s actually the Shamans who have become corrupt and evil by attacking those who were just trying to destroy the evil that had possessed the leader of the Shaman temple. He said “ Now that I have told you this you will be in danger.” Knowing this will you let me train you in the ways of combat and magic. I will train with you but how am I to learn magic when it is something the gods or daemons give to people? The thing is it can be learned by anyone regardless of whether or not the gods give you the power to learn it or not. The why have the Shamans told us differently? They did so in order to protect the people from the damage it could cause to the public and the world but these ninjas found a way to learn magic without the approval of the Shaman King or the gods. That is the way I shall teach you, starting at midnight tonight I shall start to train you in the arts of magic. Very well I will but where are we going to train and for how long? We will began training in the forest clearing to the south of the meadow next to your house and we will train for around three hours every night. Ok but I will tired so I won’t be able to focus that well. It doesn’t matter you will eventually adapt to the time. That is true but what will happen if my parents find out about this. They won’t as long as you do what I say. We begin training tonight so you better go and get some rest. That night when I woke up I headed immediately to the clearing that George had shown me not that long ago. I waited for what seemed like thirty minutes and decided to explore a bit. Even though it was dark and hard to see I managed to make out a flower that I knew was a poppy. After about a few minute after I started exploring, George appears from what seems to be nowhere. I jumped and said, “Don’t sneak up on me like that.” “Sorry” I didn’t think you would jump up like you were about to be attacked. Well in these times you can never be sure. Before we begin I wish to know your name. MY name is Alfred. Very well, in any case it’s time to start your training. Well what are we going to start training. We will start with basic sword fight training. Very well but what are we going to use. We shall use these wooden swords that I have been working on since this morning. It wasn’t until the end of the first hour that I realized that I wasn’t prepared for this kind of training but it didn’t seem to matter to George because he kept on pressing me and pressing me in the mini battle until finally I pulled off a lucky strike and struck him in the side. Very well done I think that will be all for today so now you can go back home and take a rest until tomorrow night. As I headed home for the night I had the feeling that I had accomplished something I didn’t think I would be able to do. As I lay down asleep I thought my accomplishment and drifted off to sleep. I woke up the next morning to my name being called by my parents. When I became fully awake I got dressed and headed into the dining room. “It’s about time you got up, we’ve been calling you for about a half hour now” my father said. As I sat down to eat I noticed that George wasn’t at the table. “Father where is George?” I asked as my mother handed me a plate. “He told us that he thought he would recover faster if he stayed in bed longer, so he’s eating in the guest room”. After you finish eating go and do your chores then you can relax until this evening. I finished my breakfast as fast as I could without it seeming as though I was in a hurry. After I finished I went and started my chores. It took me around three hours to complete. After I finished my chores I headed back into the house and started to head to the guest room when my mother stopped me and said, “George said he didn’t want to be disturbed so he could rest better.” I headed outside feeling a bit disappointed for I had wanted to spar with him for even a little bit. I decided that if the wooden swords were still there I would practice some attacks that he had showed me the previous night. I was shocked when I saw George at the clearing holding the two wooden swords. He seemed to have been expecting me and that was confirmed when he said, “It’s about time you got here”. He tossed me one of the two wooden swords and we started to spar. After the sparring was done I was very tired and had a bruise on one of my shoulders. “We will not have any sparring lessons tonight for we are both very tired and will need the rest”. That night after we had dinner I went to sleep and dreamt about what life would be like if I was a warrior.

Chapter 2

The next morning I woke up to the sound of what sounded like an explosion. I hurriedly got up and headed into the kitchen where I saw my mother helping George get some armor on that I didn't even know he had. "Hey boy, grab my sword from my room and hand it to me!" I hurried as fast as I could to his room and found his sword under his bed and hurried back to the kitchen where my mother had just finished putting on his armor. As I handed him his sword I asked him what happened. There are daemons in the area that were most likely sent here to kill me. What! I knew that there would be some sort of attack force sent after me but I didn't know who or what it would be until now that is, and I didn't think they would find me so fast. Well you have been here for a few weeks. What, are you sure I have been here that long? Yes I am, because you were unconscious for almost a week.
