Vision wiped his forehead, taking a step away from Kodi. He walked towards his prisoners, salivating at Maysa’s tears. She watched with tears as Kodi let out short shrieks before his body went limp.
“Kodi… Kodi… Kodi… Kodi.” She muttered. Vision overheard her, something connecting in his brain. He turned around to face Kodi.
“You’re Kodi?” The chick was calling your name. You must be her boyfriend.” He turned around and held out his palm in the opposite direction of the prisoners. High into the air were Breanna and Tayler, both watching with wide eyes. They had witnessed the entire scene from above.
He brought them to ground-level as he raised Kodi’s face, showing it to Breanna. She was seething with anger, but couldn’t do anything. She was under his skill.
“See your boyfriend? First, I took his arm. How about his legs next? Maybe his head?” He grinned before turning towards Kodi, dropping his head to the ground. Kodi remained conscious but lacked the strength to do anything.
Vision raised his foot, hovering over his legs. He stared at Breanna, teasing her. “Ooh, ahhh, ooh, ahhh.” His foot got close to his legs before being taken away. He repeated this process, infuriating Breanna and giving everyone else anxiety.
“I will kill you!” Breanna shouted, shooting him a fierce glare.
Vision returned the gift. He laughed in her face, raising his foot over Kodi’s head, tempting to cave his head in.
“I… WILL KILL YOU!” Her scream echoed off the surrounding buildings, bouncing off them and traveling far into the Slums. Her eyes turned crimson-red, a red mana bubble forming around her. It canceled Vision’s skill, dropping her. She landed on the ground and glared at him, taking a step forward. Her mana was exploding out of her body.
Vision looked terrified. He never expected one of them to awaken during the torture. He held out his palm, beginning his chant.
Breanna didn’t let him end his chant. She sprinted towards Vision with long strides near impossible for her. She got on all fours, running faster until she reached Vision. She stood on two feet, raising a punch and launching it at him. His spell hadn’t been reawakened, stopped in the process. He fell backward, being grazed by the punch, landing on the cement. He looked up at Breanna with horrified eyes. She didn’t feel any mercy, raising a fist and throwing it at his face. It broke his nose upon impact and left a dent in his face. She raised another punch and allowed it to fly. She continued punching him as his blood tempted to run amok.
The Gravity skill deactivated and everybody landed to different degrees of pain. Sand landed gracefully while the others landed painfully on their backs and knees.
Sand approached Breanna in her fury---her skill, Beast Fury, being awakened. “Enlisted’s… no, Breanna stop!” He shouted.
His shout went to deaf ears.
“Leave him alive, we need him alive!”
Breanna snarled at him, her attention off Vision and onto Sand. She growled at him, almost shouting at him - leave me alone! This is my prey!
Vision, using this opportunity, grabbed Breanna’s shirt and, with all of his strength, threw her to his side. He jumped up and began chanting Gravity, hoping to finish it before she attacked him.
Above them were rolling clouds against an empty sky. The clouds formed above Vision, in particular, and threatened his safety. Red lightning crackled in the sky, the sounds booming.
Maysa glanced at Kodi, noticing that he had his fingertips connecting. The pain he felt was evident on his face. Even so, he channeled his mana together. He was the culprit behind the sudden clouds and lightning. His skill is awakening, she thought.
Kodi glanced up at Maysa and smiled a disfigured smile. He was in more pain than she wanted to imagine. However, he was able to finish his chant, throwing her a small wave before his head went limp. He hit his head on the cement, not looking up. Maysa didn’t know if he was alive or not.
Meanwhile, the lightning bottled up until it was prepared. It fired down a single red and blue lightning that boomed as it went down from the sky and touched the ground where Vision stood. He was electrified and lit on fire by Kodi’s Solar Pillar; a mix of fire and electricity.
Vision wasn’t killed instantly as the attack lacked the correct strength, but Breanna was there to finish the job. She mauled Vision to death, his body disgraced by the multiple scratches and bites that left him in pieces. His “brilliant” plan of luring big fish to get money off them… didn’t work as planned. It failed in the worst way for him. He lost everything while two of the Enlisted gained something, even though one of them lost something important.
After Vision’s death, Sand and Rahim carried Kodi’s body back while Alita helped Saim walk. Breanna had calmed down, ten minutes after his death, and walked back side-by-side with Tayler. Blood and pieces of guts stained her clothing. It was disgusting, but Breanna felt proud of it. She killed Vision without mercy since he didn’t grant Kodi any mercy.
Kodi. She thought. He fared the worst.
“Have they sent anybody?” Rahim asked while he carried Kodi’s feet.
“They had to when they saw the lightning. If they don’t, I’ll make them. I’m the reason why this all happened.”
“Don’t blame yourself,” Rahim told him.
Sand shook his head. “It was, so… let the Gods bless our safety. Let them bless us and our future.”
Hello All!
It’s crazy how well this series came out. Going into The New Guard, I was semi-unsure of how I wanted to treat the characters. However, it came out better than expected.
I wanted to treat the characters differently compared to Ace [Legend] or Spec [Black Hood] and portray them as legitimate childhood friends with their flaws. Kodi’s lack of strength is his biggest flaw, which was never fixed during his training. This flaw is why he lost his right arm.
Breanna and Maysa’s flaws will become more apparent in the following seasons, but there was a hint of Maysa’s flaw in the first half of the season. See if you can find it.
Before I forget, thank you all for reading this story. I absolutely enjoyed it - and it’s been renewed for seasons two and three. Expect them in the coming years; no release dates confirmed.
This is the second Jayhawk+ show and it’s been getting better and better. The Follower S1 gave Jayhawk+ stable expectations and The New Guard S1 blew it out of the water.
Again thank you for reading this story as it means a lot to me.
For those wanting to show support, please comment or download Jayhawk+. Every download works towards making new series as I use that data to tell which stories are doing well and which aren’t.
As a small thanks, below is the upcoming eight-episode Jayhawk+ project that will be releasing in September and coming after The New Guard’s wake:
The Next God of Creation: Season One {Remaster}
The Next God of Creation: Season One [Episode One "Reincarnation"]Locus is an outcast who wanted to live a normal life by himself, devoid of family or friends. Unfortunately, he wasn’t given this normal life, instead, being struck by a car while on his way to the grocery store for more snacks. His body laid out on the streets in a puddle of his blood while the car whizzed away. His life drained from his body and, with a final breath, he rose into the air.
His soul, absorbed into a glowing sphere-like object, flew around in circles, orbiting a man in a green cloak. The man waved the sphere around before directing it towards a portal that opened up in front of him. “Good luck, my reincarnation.” The man remarked as Locus’s soul went into the portal, reincarnating him into a new world. The world of Rizal.
Unlike his original body, Locus grew two inches taller, reaching 5’9. He was reincarnated at the same age of sixteen years old and had the same features. His short blondish-white hair was gelled upward, looking like spikes. His skin was tanned and youthful, with a few scratches here and there as painful memories. His eyes resembled his hair, being light gray in color; they looked nearly white, almost matching the sclera.
His physique was lean, but not muscular. He didn’t have abs or anything forming, remaining as blubber. His face was oval-shaped, stubble covering his chin and the area above his upper lip.
He sat up, looking around his surroundings. He awoke into Rizal, feeling water soaking his lower body. He shot up, watching the water rippling off his soaked legs and the walls of the hexagon-shaped well he stood in the middle off. The water was crystal clear.
He looked up at the ceiling, figuring out that he was in a church. The ceiling held a sign that had a name in bolded print that he couldn’t figure out how to say. The front of the church, on the other hand, has a familiar sight in glass-stained windows that were eight feet in height and four feet in width.
As Locus focused on the small details of the church, he heard a plate shatter. He looked toward the direction that he heard the sound come from and noticed a nun standing dumbfounded.
“Who are you? Where am I? Didn’t I Die?” Locus blurted out. The woman shook her head, motioning for him to look up at the ceiling. On the ceiling was the name that he couldn’t pronounce. “What is that?” He asked.
“Creation God, Czeco. The god that this kingdom worships. You're the reincarnation of him!” She shouted.
“Creation God? Reincarnation? How is that possible?” Locus muttered to himself. “That can’t be true… can it?” He stared at the woman, tilting his head. “Where am I and who are you?”
The woman nodded before bowing her head. “My name is Sister Ashley and you’re in the main church of Millwells, the capital of the Wyvern Kingdom.” She then raised her head and motioned for him to follow her. Locus stepped outside of the pool and walked up to her, leaking water onto the ground as he did.
Locus put his hands to his head and slightly squeezed it. “Can you tell me more about my purpose here? I mean, there has to be a reason for my existence, right?” Locus blurted out. Sister Ashley nodded.
“Our kingdom is being threatened by the demon kingdom of Slade. Their armies have crushed our armies and we’ve been losing ground. Churches all over the kingdom have been praying for the strength to defeat Slade. It looks like the gods have granted our prayers and given us the power of the strongest god, Czeco. You-” She said as she turned to face him, waving a finger at him. “-were reincarnated as the human vessel for Czeco and should have access to his strength.” She told him. He nodded as he followed her outside of the church and into the city.
“Wait! Wait! Wait! You’re telling me that I’m supposed to protect an entire kingdom? How can I do this?” He asked, his eyes wide and his eyebrows high.
“The king will
