each other at the top of the stairs. They heard a commotion below, but were not allowed to speak.
Soon the man who had announced them during the last ball they had motioned them forward.
They all lined up in groups of two, Jolent and Kaliea, Aralina and James, Hosily and Methuen, Simolia and Drake, and then Megdelia and Nathentex, Kaliea and Collin bringing up the rear.
After he had called the names the groups descended the stairs. Applause broke out through the room as the group made it to the bottom.
The room was packed of every kind of creature on Fantalasia.
Megdelia saw Octavious talking with a pixie couple over on the other side of the room. He saw him brush a tear off of his cheek. She turned to her partner and asked to be excused.
He nodded and watched as she disappeared into the crowd.
“Octavious is everything all right?” she questioned worriedly. The man that didn’t have a speck of pollen on him turned and a sad smile was on his face. The pixie couple looked at Megdelia their mouths opened in shock.
“Megdelia, meet your Aunt and Uncle.”
“But, I don’t have an Aunt and Uncle. At least not that I can recall!”
“Your mother was my sister.” The man insisted, “You have her face.”
“She was madly in love with a messenger fairy. Your father. But according to pixie law at the time no pixie was to intermingle with others from a different species,” the lady blew her nose into a hankie, “That didn’t stop them they disappeared into the forest. Later on we heard through another messenger fairy that they had married and had you.” the older lady was crying openly now, and couldn’t continue.
The man finished, “Then ten years later we heard that some bandits had come and burned down your house. We being you relatives, were sent for to claim you. But when we came to the orphanage you were gone. Already adopted by Octavious. We had the name, but couldn’t find him anywhere. We had heard that you had had a fever and never came out of it. Something had hit you on the head. But Octavious adopted you anyway. And here you are a hero!”
Megdelia was in shock, she had a family?
“Where do you live?” She asked casually, not wanting her emotions to get the better of her.
“Here!” the woman answered with a gleam in her eye.
“They are some of my new assistants in the garden. I heard of the ball and asked them to come, not knowing this story until they saw you descend the stairs next to the elven boy.” Octavious explained.
Megdelia was about to jump for joy, but Nathentex came over and politely whisked her away into the dancing.
That night the whole group stayed in the ballroom when it was just them all the others had retired.
“So tomorrow is the big day?” Jolent questioned.
“Yes, and of course you all are going to be a part of the wedding!” Katalia insisted, as Collin put a hand on her shoulder and nodded in agreement.
“After the wedding I have to go home for a bit.” Aralina said, “My mother is feeling ill and I have to go help out.”
“What of your sister and cousins? And you just got here!” Megdelia questioned, just finding out a little while after that she a cousin of her own, A young girl named Cristin.
“Dad, just feels better knowing that I will be there, but I will be back you can count on that.”
“I have to go as well.” Hosily spoke.
“As do we.” Jolent spoke for he and Nathentex, who nodded sadly.
“We can’t break up the Order of the Protection of the Royal family!” James said.
The group looked at him, “What Methuen thought of it and I thought it was a good idea!”
Methuen nodded happily.
“That’s actually not a bad name a bit long, but good.” Collin agreed.
“Then from now on that is what we are!” Simolia piped in.
“But how will we stay in contact?” Kaliea questioned.
“The ‘ears’ of course!” Drake supplied after hearing of the little things that they had used.
“So that’s who we are. The Order of the Protection of the Royal family!” Katalia said, her face then screwed up,“But wait. James, Collin, Drake, and I are of the Royal family!”
“Exactly, we are here to protect you and likewise.”
“Thanks a lot!” Katalia mumbled.
“Well then how about the Order of the protection of Fantalasia?” Nathentex suggested.
Katalia nodded, “Now that is much better. All agreed?”
Everyone raised their hands in agreement.
“Now, why don’t we all get some sleep. We have a wedding that I do not think anyone would want us to miss!” Hosily said standing and stretching. The group nodded and went their separate ways. To sleep until the big day!
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Katalia was the first one awake and straightaway went to wake up her attendants, who were spread out in Kaliea’s and Simolia’s bedrooms.
She knocked on the door, “Wake up sleepy heads today's a big day!”
She heard groaning coming from the other side of the door and smiled. As a sleepy Simolia opened the door, Katalia laughed.
“Good morning, Kat.” she mumbled.
“Come on, wake up every one in your room then met me in mine I have a surprise for all of you!”
Simolia nodded, and closed the door. She heard movement and mumbling.
She then turned a different direction down a hallway with sun streaming through the windows and sighed, today was a lovely day to get married.
As she reached Katalia’s room she could already hear people moving inside she knocked and a wide awake Aralina met her at the door.
“Can I come in?” Katalia questioned, Aralina turned her head back into the room to get an answer then turned back.
“No ,sorry!”
Katalia thought to read her mind, but decided not to. They wanted to keep a secret from her and she didn’t want to spoil it.
“OK ,then after you are finished could you please come to my room. I have a surprise for all of you.”
Aralina nodded, and smiled, “We have one for you and everyone else as well.”
“Can’t wait to see it!” anxiously Katalia said, then headed back to her room to wait.
A little while later there was a knock on her door. Katalia threw the door open and surprised her friends. Who were standing on the other side of the door. Two were holding bags in front of them.
“Good morning our blushing bride!” Simolia said, more cheerfully then when she awoke.
“Good morning! Come, come on in! Now what is in those mysterious looking bags?”
“Kaliea here couldn’t sleep last night. And neither could we or at least Megdelia so she and her helpful companion. Made these.” Aralina and Kaliea pulled out a sample. It was personalized tunics. Each with the color of the person's power or status. And initials of the Order of the Protection of Fantalasia, which was OPF.
Megdelia’s was dark blue, with a silver trim, and the initials in a silver thread.
Kaliea’s was a light, airy yellow, with green and dark blue trimmings. Her initials were also in trimming. Everyone else had them too.
Simolia’s was a hot pink with a purple trimming and the initials were also purple.
Katalia’s was purple, with a light green trimming and the initials was a blue
Aralina’s was green with blue trimming and and blue initials.
Hosily’s was a hunters green with brown trimming that made her blend into the wildlife like most of the elves clothing, and the initials in black thread.
Drake’s was red with black trimming and black lettering. Katalia was sure he would not like it for it would remind him of his father’s palace, but it might also be a constant reminder that he was now there’s and not his.
Collins was turquoise blue with a green trimming and lettering.
James’ tunic was purple like his sister’s but he had a different trim to tell them apart.
Jolent and Nathentex had a brownish color for their tunics.
Methuen had an orange tunic, which matched his eccentric personality.
“And now I have a surprise for all of you!” Katalia said mischievously.
She got up from where she had sat- in one of her cushioned chairs- and headed for the door.
“I’ll be back in a minute, with your surprises!” she said, and closed the door behind her.
The girls waited in suspense, and by the time that Kat came back, they were all sitting on the edges of their chairs, with impatience.
Kat held five bags in her hands. She pulled out four dresses, with matching accessories, and four pairs of heels that matched each dress.
The dress that Katalia handed to Kaliea was light pink, with a see through purple wrap around the waist. The top of the dress was sparkly pink and purple. The skirt was full. The sleeves were short. The neckline was a curly “V” and the heels that came with it, were high, and pink with straps. The jewelry (which included earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet) was all pink and purple. The bracelet and necklace were both purple string, with pink jewels on it. The earrings had pink and purple jewels on them.
Aralina’s dress was light green, with a square neckline, and long sleeves. There were light blue sparkles all over it. The skirt was very long, and it had light blue heels. The jewelry was light blue with some green. The strings were green, and the jewels were light blue.
Simolia’s dress was a soft shade of gold, and it had flecks of purple. The neckline was a long circle almost reaching the shoulders. The skirt was long, and circular. The heels that matched the dress were dark purple. The jewelry was gold chains, and purple jewels.
Megdelia’s dress was aqua. Its sleeves went half way down her arms. The skirt was straight, and long. The neckline was square, and it had silver trim. The sleeves and skirt also has silver trim. The accessories were silver with aqua jewels.
That was four bags, and the girls looked curiously at Kat, who smiled, and pulled four necklaces out of the last bag. Each one was specially designed for each girl.
Megdelia’s was silver with a pair of wings in the pendant.
Aralina’s was green with a flower, and a leaf in the pendant.
Simolia’s was also silver, but there was a snowflake in the pendant.
Kaliea’s was pink, with a needle and thread in the pendant.
Katalia pulled out one more necklace, but she put it on her bureau for after the wedding.
The girls thanked Kat for their presents, but she waved it aside.
“I should be thanking you, for saving me. And more, for saving me before I was married.”
The girls were a bit embarrassed, and they didn’t know what to say. Fortunately, at that moment, the queen entered, with Katalia’s wedding dress.
“OK, we are going to help my daughter get ready now, so you girls skedaddle. Get ready for the wedding, if you have dresses. Oh, you are holding dresses, how nice! You can wear those.” the queen said in a rush, but with a smile.
The girls exited with a bunch of ‘yes your highness’ es and waves to Kat, who beamed.
Collin awoke to
