it was nothing? He really must be a nutcase.

“Imbecile.” I heard Caleb muttered under his breath, probably referring to his stupid friend. I turned my gazed back at him, just in time to see him leaving like he didn't care at all.

“H-hey! Wait!” I called out, still feeling a bit nervous by his strong presence.

“What?” He asked impassively without glancing at me.

“Are you just gonna leave? Your crazy friend just jumped---”

“He is fine.” He said flatly, cutting me off. He then started walking once again.

“Wait! I think we need to make sure he's fine.” I said in a worried tone, but he didn't stop so I ran toward him only to stumble over the gutter. I thought I was going to fall, but somehow, Caleb got to my side extra-fast and caught me before I hit the road with my face.

“What a cumbersome girl you are.” He commented in utter distaste, yet he helped me to stand properly.

“T-hanks...” I murmured shyly. I already knew I was a bit klutzy, but I didn't expect for him to see it. He didn't respond to me, instead, he took his phone from his pocket and dialed something.

“Talk to her.” He ordered on the other line. Then, he handed his phone to me. I hesitantly took it and placed it on my ear just as he gestured for me to do it. “Hello?”

“Hi there, little one. I'm quite fine, if you're so inclined to know. I wouldn't mind visiting you one of these days, if you would be so kind to invite m---” Caleb grabbed the phone from me and ended the call. He was really strange, so was his friend. They were a bunch of handsome weirdos, but somehow I felt they were harmless.

“Now that you know he's fine, you may now be at peace.” He said with his usual cold voice and walked away.

“Do you live around this area or nearby?” I asked curiously as I started following him. He was walking in the same route as mine so I decided to walk with him which was a rare case to happen. I wouldn't say, I was a standoffish, but I was also not amiable. I tend to shun away from people, especially, strangers and Caleb was still under my stranger's list. However, I couldn't stop myself from being drawn to him, like there was an invincible thread that was pulling me to him. I must be too busy thinking for I didn't realize he'd already stopped walking, so I inadvertently hit my face into his hard back like a deja vu. I got flustered and was rendered speechless when Caleb, without a word, held my face, disabling me to move.

“I'm a tad curious...” He uttered in a whisper and looked into my eyes. I couldn't move and say anything while staring into his hypnotizing eyes. “Would you jump from a cliff, if I tell you so?” He asked the question like a hypnosis and once again, I saw the blue specks of his eyes glowed and changed into a darker shade between red and black. I shook my head to clear my vision, in case I was imagining again, and maybe I was right since his eyes were back to a normal blue again.

“Did your eyes, chan---Wait, what did you say? Jump from a cliff? Why would I do that?” I asked in total bewilderment. Although, I was glad that I stopped myself from asking a weird question. Caleb might think that I was losing my mind which probably a forthcoming if I kept on seeing uncanny things.

“I thought so... You are a peculiar one.” He muttered afterward, more likely to himself and ignored my confusion.

“What are you talking about?”

“Forget about what I've said.” I let it go, thinking that he had a twisted idea of a joke.

“Um, Do you... Er, um, why do you hate me?” I bravely asked, a bit relieved for finally voicing my thoughts that had been nagging me since we had first met. He looked at me for a few seconds, assessing my expression, then sighed afterward.

“I don't hate you.” He replied curtly and started to walk again, but stopped after a few yard steps and gave me a shock after another when he said, “However, I'd wish for you to stay away from me.”
