âEmma, get up!â
Carter told me.
I groaned. Did he have to wake me up this early, itâs bad enough Iâll have to deal with him the rest of my life. I groaned at the thought of seeing him everyday.
âIâll be the highlight of your dayâ
He said smirking. Then, the lights turned on and I groaned again.
âCome on, Carter!â Emily groaned but I donât think she was awake. Was she dreaming about Carter. âNo Emma!â
âIt was just a thought, not a sentence.â I said putting a pillow over my head to block out the light. It failed. âCarter!â
âYes?â he said flickering the lights. Every other second it was light in the room.
âThat is very annoying. Plus, why are you bugging us anyway?â I asked.
âI came in here to get you up, but Emily woke up too. I wanted you to see something but if you donât get up, then I guess I wontâ he said flickering the lights about 30 more times.
âThe only thing I want to see is the insides of my eyelids.â I said. âIn case you didnât get the clue, I want to sleepâ
âNow, whoâs being difficult?â he smirked. I was going to kill him, which I could easily do but they didnât know that. Crap, I really need to control my thoughts.
âStill youâ Emily and I said at the same time.
I finally gave up on going back to sleep and sat up in my bed, glaring at him. âIâm awake are youâŠâ I trailed off when I saw he didnât have a shirt on. Holy crap, he was hot! He was very muscular, and had a six pack which definitely didnât surprise me considering how he worked out yesterday. He was tan, and beautiful.
âDone staring now?â he asked me.
I was going to answer him but I wasnât sure if I could tear my eyes away from his chest. âI wasnât staringâ
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Emily laugh and him raise his eyebrows. âYou still areâ
I looked up at his face. âAm notâ
âWhatever, you know you wereâ he chuckled. âSo what were you going to say before you started staring at me?â
âI was going to say, Iâm awake are you happy now?â
He growled then smiled. âYes, because you are finally showing some kind of attraction to me.â
âAm not!â I said still sneaking looks at his chest once in a while.
âWill you two shut up, some of us are trying to sleep?â Emily said rolling over onto her side.
âI wanted to sleep too, but this doofus wouldnât let meâ I reminded her.
Carter growled. â Iâm not a doofus, Iâm an Alphaâ
âWe donât careâ we said together.
He growled again and walked over to my bed and sat at the bottom. âYou sure will, soonâ
âIâm not scared of youâ I said.
âYou
shouldnât be but she should be.â he told me.
âWhy should I be scared of you, and she shouldnât be? That makes no sense.â Emily said into her pillow.
âSure it does, sheâs my mate. Do you think I want her to be scared of her own mate?â he said.
âThanks for reminding meâ I groaned. I couldnât get used to the fact that he was my mate but, I know I could get used to that chest.
Emily finally sat up and looked around. Her eyes landed on his chest and smiled. âLucky youâ she mumbled.
I grabbed the nearest pillow and threw it at her. âShut up!â
He chuckled. âYou two act like you have been friends forever, not two days.â
âYou can shut up, tooâ I said hitting him with a pillow and smirking. He didnât like that.
âDonât hit me with a pillowâ he said. âYou wonât like the consequences. I can promise you thatâ
I hit him again. âYour probably right, but like I said, Iâm not scared of you. Or your consequencesâ
He growled. âSayâs the difficult oneâ
I hit him again. âHey, this is kind of fun, I could get used to this.â
âDo me a favor, shift then meet me outside of the hotel in the woods. Both of youâ he said and left the room flickering the lights once more.
I shrugged and went outside with Emily right on my heels. I was going to jump but I changed my mind on that. Instead, I did it the long way and walked around to the back. It was the first time I would see, Carterâs wolf. I was told it was all black but I wanted to see how that would look.
After I shifted, Carter shifted and Emily did as well. Carter was a completely black wolf like Herald had told me but his paws were a dark grey. All in all, he was beautiful though I already knew he would be. His human was, why not his wolf too.
âWhat is this for, we are still tiredâ
Emily said.
âMore like exhausted because he woke us up at 2AM yesterday and wouldnât let us go back to sleep this morningâ
I added.
âYou two both love me and you know it, so shut it!â
He said. We started running in a triangle, me on Carterâs left and Emily on her right but a little behind him. âWeâre going up the mountain, to see a little someoneâ
âNot your mother again, she thinks Iâm stupid and to be completely honest I think sheâs talking about herself. Sorry if that upsetâs you but I had to get it off my chest.â
âI told her that when I found my mate, Iâd let her meet whoever it is. And she isnât talking about herself, sheâs talking about you, Emilyâ
âWhateverâ
He growled at her. âDonât whatever meâ
âEmma can, why canât I?â
âEmma, is my mate, your not . Sorry, for bringing it up again Emma.â
he said in a warning voice.
âSure you areâ
âSo are you the Beta now, or is that still Vincent?â
Emily asked me. I had no clue what a Beta was and I donât know if I wanted to find out.
âNo, considering sheâs not exactly my mate, yetâ he said.
âIâm not your mate now? Would you get your story straight, yesterday I was and today Iâm notâ
âHe means you havenât completed the mating processâ
Emily said in a low voice.
âYou are certainly not biting meâ
âI could bite you right here, right now. But that would be against your will, and I wouldnât do that to youâ
Emily growled. âYou two act like an old married couple. And Emma, whatâs so bad about him biting you, Lucas bit meâ
âYeah but you probably love him, I am far from loving him. Plus, I already have a boyfriendâ
I regretted saying that as soon as the words left my mind.
Carter turned around and got on top of me with one paw on my chest and his head leaned down near mine. âWho?!â
âJosh Wilsonâ
I said. I struggled to get out from under him but he wouldnât let me up.
âEmily, Iâm going to school with you next weekâ
he said releasing me. I quickly got up and we were running again.
âWhy?â
âBecause I said so, donât question me, Emilyâ
He warned.
âWhy?â
I asked him.
He didnât answer, he just growled.
It turns out his mother lived in a log cabin up in the mountains. From her house you could see the ocean and I had to admit it was an amazing view. She was short and a little chubby but for an old lady she was skinny. She had grey hair, round glasses and many wrinkles but she looked like my grandmother.
After we had shifted and got dressed, we went inside and sat in the living room. It had three couches, two coffee tables and a lamp. Small but nice.
âMom, this is my mate Emmaâ he began motioning from her to me. âEmma this is my mom.â
âFinally, you found your mate, how lovely. I remember when your father found me, oh such a lovely memory.â She went on to ask some questions about sports I like, hobbies, foods I like and things like that. She had told Carter to go down to the ocean and find her something, I wasnât paying attention. It took him almost an hour, but I was busy answering questions when he got back. She stopped her questions when he came back because she said she didnât want him to think we were talking about him.
âAlright, thank you dear.â she said as he put whatever it was on the counter. âWhy donât you and Emma go for a run, she really is a nice girlâ
âThatâs okay, mom I donât thinkâŠâ
âGoâ she told him.
âCome along Emma. Weâll go to the beach, or somethingâ he said in a nervous voice.
I shrugged, it couldnât hurt. Itâs not like I was going to come back fully mated or something.
It took us about fifteen minutes to get down to the beach and it was a silent run. When I saw the water, I almost fainted at how different it was in Canada. It was a beautiful blue, like the blue ocean of Florida. I loved it.
âItâs beautiful, isnât it?â he asked sitting down next to me on the log.
I nodded.
âDonât hate my mother for saying this but she only told us to come down here because of my thoughtâs on my way down here.â he explained. âDonât hate me eitherâ
I smiled. âWhat were you thinking?â
He hesitated for a moment before answering. âMostly, just thing about you. If you were ever going to accept the fact that I was your mate. If you were ever going to actually let theâŠâ he trailed off not wanting to finish that sentence.
âDonât I have to accept it? Do I really have a choice?â I asked.
âAm I really that bad, that you would even ask me that?â
I hesitated. I didnât know what I felt for him but I did know for one thing that I wouldnât want to be with him over Josh. âI donât know youâ
âWell, then what do you want to know?â
âEverythingâ I said without meaning to.
He chuckled. âThat could take awhile.â
âOkay, whatâs your favorite thing to do?â
I asked him about thirty questions by the time we were done. Some answers he didnât want to say, but I reminded him I was his mate and he told me. Some of his answers werenât what I was expecting but, you cant judge a book by itâs cover.
We had walked along the beach and I had to admit I liked being with him. Like he was the only person to fill a hole in my heart. It was really nice.
âYou definitely arenât the person I thought you wereâ I told him.
âI could say the same about you. You donât seem like the type to like skateboarding.â
I shrugged. âYou donât seem like the type to be a mammaâs boyâ
âI told you not to hold that against meâ he reminded me.
âOops, it slippedâ I lied. He knew I was lying but a girl had to try, right. âSorryâ
He stopped walking and I stopped too. I turned around to face him and what he did, I didnât see coming. As soon as I turned around his lips were on mine and his hand cupping
