“Get off of me,” I screamed as he beat me.
I felt hatred and disgust when he ripped-off my shirt and exposed my naked breasts.
“Shut up, bitch," he said.
I stroked my cheek to ease the pain of his slap.
I prayed to God, and asked Him how I had got myself into that mess. And when he failed to answer, I decided to kill that dead-beat man of mine.
As he slept, fitfully, I took a pillow and smothered him. Then, as I asked God to forgive me, I felt content he would never hurt me again.
“Are you ready to play the game?” I swung the key in my hand. It was the one that offered you freedom.
"Unlock these chains," you screamed.
I laughed. "See! You played with my emotions. You knew how much I loved you. I’m going to ask you one more time. How did it feel, lying with her? Was she better than me?" My eyes must have been glowing green.
“I choose her,” you answered. “She was the one.”
So, I fired the gun. And as you bled, I laid next to you and smiled. Now she can’t have you either.
Joey, you were my everything until she stole you from me.
It destroyed me when I waited outside your house each morning; when I waited for you to go to work, and when I watched you kiss her cheek, wishing it was me.
I took my opportunity that last time I saw you go.
She was surprised to see me when I walked in and shot her twice. And when you came back and I hovered over her body, I looked into your perfect blue eyes and cried. “I did it for us, Joey.”
“For us?”
I smiled. “You're welcome.”
