Intro
My sister Aithne scares the guys away, she doesnāt care, sheās more interested in the girls that wear clothes that are too tight and show way too much skin than necessary. Me? I donāt look at anyone with interest; Iām more into studying than socializing with others, at the moment. The thing is I donāt fit in, so to speak. I like my solitude and I benefit from that by having better grades which will get me out of this hole that calls itself a town; and away from my parents. My parents expect me to stay but I donāt want to. In the end I have to do as Iām told.
My family arenāt the ordinary, human, family. We have these wolf spirits that reside in our bodies and they only come out on the full moon, for the guys, and the women are at that time of the month; twice a month for the women. Iām different, I donāt change unless I want to and Mum thinks that my wolf spirit in me isnāt strong yet. What I think is that I donāt have a separate wolf spirit in me, the spirit is me, and the wolf and I are one. Iām Alastria Nolan and Iām 16 years old. My family all live together on a property of 40 acres, itās got to be big to fit all of us. Iām the youngest. Blaine is the eldest, the first son, heās 33; Ronan is the second eldest, the second son, heās 31; Artis is the third son, heās 29; Keane and Damon are the fourth and fifth sons (they are twins) theyāre 25; and Aithne is the first daughter, sheās 20. Blaine has two kids, both boys, and Ronan has two kids as well, a boy and a girl (Twins). Artis has a girlfriend that I think is pregnant but doesnāt want to say anything just in case sheās wrong. Keane and Damon are ladies men; they donāt stay with one girl for more than six months.
Anyway, thereās one other time when the wolf spirit is very strong and it affects your behaviour a month before it has even came close to the day. That day is Halloween. The day Celtics celebrated Shamhain with bonfires and other stuff. On this day the veal between the living and the dead is at its thinnest. It is also a fun time for people of all ages, more some than others.
Most of the kids at school canāt wait for October 31st to come; some even have their costumes already! They are also talking about the haunted house that my parents have advertised as a fun thing to do on the night. They probably got the idea from āNew Yorkās premier haunted Halloween haunted house: Blood Manor.ā My parents call theirs āThe Blood Shackā with different rooms with different themes.
If any of my family are reading this then I have either run away or I have been killed. If someone else is reading this then get out of my room you sticky beak!!
October 1st
I was sitting on the bus, up the back as usual, with my headphones over my ears and the music turned up very loud. You see the bus run has mostly little kids on it and a few secondaries so the noise level is quite high. There are a few rules on the bus: You talk to the person beside you, not someone up the other end of the bus; only secondaries are allowed to sit up on the high seats and behind, no primaries; the person in the front gets off first. There are other rules but they arenāt that important. The noise level goes even higher when we are picking up the last kids up which arenāt far from the school and should probably be riding their bikes to school. By this time I have turned off my iPod and put it in my bag. With dread I wait for the bus to pull up at the school, and then I wait for the little kids to get off. Finally I walk through the gates of the school alert for an ambush of friends. Todayās my birthday and I really donāt want to get my birthday punches. My friends are nowhere in sight. I watch for any of them with such attentiveness that I saw one of my friends before she saw me. I threw my bag down just as she caught sight of me, she gave an ear splitting whistle and all my friends converged on me. Before they could even get close enough to give me my punches I bolted. I just ran from them. I ran behind buildings, I ran where I couldnāt get cornered and in the end they gave in, gasping for breath.
