Read FICTION books online

Reading books fiction Have you ever thought about what fiction is? Probably, such a question may seem surprising: and so everything is clear. Every person throughout his life has to repeatedly create the works he needs for specific purposes - statements, autobiographies, dictations - using not gypsum or clay, not musical notes, not paints, but just a word. At the same time, almost every person will be very surprised if he is told that he thereby created a work of fiction, which is very different from visual art, music and sculpture making. However, everyone understands that a student's essay or dictation is fundamentally different from novels, short stories, news that are created by professional writers. In the works of professionals there is the most important difference - excogitation. But, oddly enough, in a school literature course, you don’t realize the full power of fiction. Finger Sandwiches

I sat at the table, sipping my tea and occasionally biting into my crumpet, trying to look normal, casual if I was lucky. The clock on one of the cream walls struck ten and outside I could hear the sound of Big Ben chiming. At first, the every hour chiming had been strange for me, we didn't have anything like it in Sussex after all, but after a week in London I'd grown a custom to it.

I was sitting in a small yet cosy cafe, as I'd been every day for the past month or so. The cafe, by the name of 'Finger Sandwiches', had appealed to me as I'd walked past it on the afternoon of my arrival into London. When I'd gone inside I discovered that as it had advertised with it's outer decorations, it was indeed very homely looking. The staff seemed to serve customers with genuine smiles on their faces and that had surpised me. My current waitress, Lucy, had served me since the first day, except on the weekends, those where the days she didn't work.

The reason I took notice of Lucy was the fact that she was from Sussex also. I felt like I'd had a friend, someone who knew what I was going thorough and had been able to cope, it gave me hope.I lifted the crinkled newspaper besides me, eyes scanning the job section of todays Sun, another daily ritual that seemed to have no end.

What could I say, I was a creature of habit, no matter what changed that wouldn't. Finally, I finished scanning the papter and put it down with a sigh. Lucy looked over hopeful and I shook my my head, she dropped her glance.

I postioned my hands on the wooden table and slowly rose up, careful not to knock anything over. I then tucked my chair in and collected my belongings. I walked swiftly toward the door then glanced back at Lucy. She gave me a look, would I be back tomorrow? I nodded once then turned on my heels, opened the door and exited the cafe, not looking back again.
