Read FICTION books online

Reading books fiction Have you ever thought about what fiction is? Probably, such a question may seem surprising: and so everything is clear. Every person throughout his life has to repeatedly create the works he needs for specific purposes - statements, autobiographies, dictations - using not gypsum or clay, not musical notes, not paints, but just a word. At the same time, almost every person will be very surprised if he is told that he thereby created a work of fiction, which is very different from visual art, music and sculpture making. However, everyone understands that a student's essay or dictation is fundamentally different from novels, short stories, news that are created by professional writers. In the works of professionals there is the most important difference - excogitation. But, oddly enough, in a school literature course, you don’t realize the full power of fiction. Prologue - Vera

I knew there were Shifters who didn’t believe In finding their true mate. Hell, I wished I could say I wasn’t one of them. Unfortunately, I knew better from personal experience—and not the good kind. I met Kyle Johnson when I was sixteen and fell for him immediately. I lost my parents the year before in a fire, so he took me in. He was five foot ten tall with red hair and green eyes. He loved hunting And he made me feel safe—which only made sense since he was a firefighter, after all. Things progressed quickly between us, and three years into our relationship, Kyle convinced me to move into his house with him and his brothers. He always made time for me and treated me like a princess. I thought things between us were amazing. Then he wanted me to quit college. Kyle didn’t like the way others looked at me while I was UCLA. Kyle finally convinced me that I should go to the community college close by where he worked. However, each time I found a new friend, he found reasons why I shouldn’t hang out with them. He was so convincing in his arguments that I just gave up. Little by little, everything from my life that wasn’t connected to him was removed. He was the only thing I had left, and then things got worse. He didn’t like my hair color, so he had me dye it and cut it short. He drilled into my head that I was the most beautiful null he ever saw— I’m not a null I just don’t let anyone know what I am. Then he started clawing and whipping me. It was painful every night in bed. And he was considerably stronger than me since I’m only five foot three and a hundred and thirty pounds. There was never any apologies. He certainly didn’t ask for any forgiveness. Instead, he gave me a warning that nobody would believe a bitch null like me if I told them what happened since he was a firefighter and was a respectable member of the community. It was then that it dawned on me he’d known exactly what he was doing when he hurt me. If it came to his word against mine, he would have had the advantage, plus no one would ever see the scars because it had become a habit for me to let them see a normal looking girl. Although I’d allowed him to dominate my life, I wasn’t a weak person, nor was I stupid. Kyle liked to make me think I was both. Hell, there were a lot of things I wished I had done differently back then, but I was determined to make better choices going forward. I was able to get into the police academy. The day of graduation, another four years later, his eyes held anger when he realized I was going to leave him. He immediately took me home and beat me and raped me. I knew that making his friends on the force unwilling to help was getting him to not able to file a report with me missing. I disappeared the very same day, taking with me our dog. I turned my phone off so if he traces me, he won't find me. I went to the animal park and from there I headed to a runaway shelter and stayed for a week—long enough for Kyle to file a missing person’s report on me On the morning of the last day, I took a taxi back to our home, Kyle was surprised to see me walk in the door. His boss and two of his cop friends who were with him at the time watched as he checked me all over before asking me if I was okay and pulling me into a hug, asking where the hell I had been.

“I was visiting my parent's graves,” I answered. “Did you forget?”

The guys left after a quick drink, and I paid for making him look like a buffoon in front of his boss and friends. He was careful not to leave any marks. I suffered many more weeks of his insults and demands for sex. I acted like his good little girl for a whole two years before I went to a fellow officer who knew what was going on. I stayed with him and his wife for an entire week. And when I came back I told him I had gone to the beach to spread my parents’ ashes since it was the five-year anniversary of their death. When I overheard his friend telling Kyle to get a grip, I knew I could survive one more week when I left that day, I wouldn’t have to come back. Making his friends think he was wrong about the times I was gone before had taken away a lot of his resources. My hope was that it would give me enough time to get away. I hadn’t counted on him leaving me tied to the bed, I called one of my friends for the first time in months. I explained I needed his help. He parked down the street so nobody would see him when crept into my house and cut the rope. He was a cop in a different division Jason didn’t ask too many questions—he had been the most vocal about how much he didn’t like Kyle and the first friend he’d cut out of my life. When we got to the train station he went inside and bought me a ticket on the first train leaving town. He gave me a bag of his boyfriend's old clothes and an envelope stuffed with cash, he told me that he had been waiting for when I was ready to escape and I should run hard and fast. I ran for two years. I’d moved from place to place, never staying too long and always looking over my shoulder.  Eighty days of freedom had passed, and I was finally ready to settle down in a new place for good. When I pulled out a map and looked a little bit more to the south, Lupine Hill jumped out at me, so I went there. The town was smaller than what I thought it was. The sign for a place called The Wolf Diner caught my eye. I was starving. I went to the station first and asked if I could speak to the sheriff. It was bigger than it had appeared from the outside. It was bright, with dyed wood paneling that matched the granite floors. It was early afternoon, but there were already people inside, but then the smell got to me. I had unknowingly came into Werewolf territory. The guy behind the service desk was handsome you could tell he knew it. He watched me with a smirk on his face as I walked towards him.

“What can I do for you?” he asked.

“I need to speak to the Sheriff about getting a job here.”

He chuckled underneath his breath before saying. “You do not want to work here tiny sweetheart.”

“Look, I don’t fucking care. I’ve been trying to find a place to stay without prejudice. Now may I speak to your sheriff?”

“C’mon. Give her a chance, Drew,” one of the guys sitting in a cell offered in support. “I wouldn’t mind seeing her around here whenever I’m brought in drunk.”

“Fuck,” Drew muttered. “I’m sure you’d all love to have her work here. Andreas would be pissed at me.”

â€śPlease,” I muttered, letting some of my fear show in my eyes.

Dree breathed in deep through his nose and shook his head as he looked at me before he answered. “Go to Eclipse Paw bar and grill. My brother who owns the town should be there. If not one of our two other brothers should be. We don’t have a Sheriff.”

“Thank you,” I replied.

“Don’t thank me yet. Wear jeans and t-shirt. Most of the guys at the bar will want to have you.”

“Shut the fuck up,” I muttered as I left.

I ate a small lunch at the diner and raced back to the inn. When I got to the bar I smelled shifters. I walked up to the bar and asked to see Andreas Rivera. The guy said his brother wasn’t in. He told me his name was Peter. It was nearly dark outside. He was six feet of pure handsomeness, with almost black hair and eyes that reminded me of melted chocolate. I told him I was looking for a job at the sheriff station and he seemed doubtful. I looked at him with a smile and he sighed.

“You can have the Sheriff’s spot for now, but if Andreas doesn’t want you as sheriff you leave town.”

I nodded.

He made a call to Drew and in a language, I knew was Spanish he said something. Half an hour later he told me to go back to the station in the morning. And that’s when I met Andreas Rivera, one hell of a devilish package. I knew that if they found out I was a Werejackal I could be killed. But Andreas he was something.

Chapter 1 - Andreas

I glanced around the station and until something Drew said caught my full attention.

“You all did what?” I growled.

There was no way he’d just hire a damn human, so I had to have missed something.

“What the fucking hell were we supposed to do Andreas?” he growled back. "We tried telling her, no, but you should’ve smelled the fucking fear on her. She could be smelled by the people at the bar and you know how most of us are about women who smell like fear.”

“It’s gonna fucking bite you in that ass of yours someday, too,” I warned him. “Like today when I kick yours and our other two brothers because you know damn well that we don’t hire humans.”

“I know,” he grumbled. “But we told her she
