âI canât believe my own mother would force me to go to counselingâ I mumble to myself while I sit in one of the uncomfortable chairs in the waiting room. I shake my head my head in disgust when I see the people around me staring at my blue hair. Hmph. They think that theyâre better than me, donât they?
âMooena Wilson?â a voice asks. I look up from my comic book to see a perky blond woman watching me with overly excited eyes.
âMooena? Miss Alison will see you now.â She says.
I mumble a thanks as I trudge over to the door that has âAlison Noel: Therapistâ painted on the window. I walk into it cautiously.
âMooena ? Take a seatâ a woman I presume to be Miss Alison says, gesturing to a severely over stuffed couch.
The woman has short red hair and way too many bracelets and rings.
I sit down and sink quit a few inches into the fluff.
âMoo. My name is Moo.â I say.
âOkay, Moo. Letâs start by telling me how your day is going?â She says.
âWell,â I begin leisurely. âI began my day with being woken up at 5:00 am this morning and having to eat a hurried breakfast of cold leftover pizza. My older brother hurled endless insults and taunts my way when he drove me the two hours here. Oh, and Iâm being forced into counseling. So in summary, just perfect.â I say in a mocking tone.
Alison frowns. âOh, I guess I was so swept up I forgot to introduce myself, silly me! Iâm Alison Noel; Iâll be your therapist. I hope someday we will become good friends.â
I roll my eyes.
Next thing I know, I ball of fur has hurled itself into my lap. When my initial surprise goes away, I notice pictures of this fur ball are covering the room. Then my brain comes back and I realize that it is a brown Scottie dog.
âI see youâve met my darling Toto! Or perhaps heâs met you...â Alison says, perkier than ever. She walks over to a citrus scented candle and lights it.
âIt calms him downâ she explains.
Almost as if on cue, Toto settled into my lap. Just then, something pops into my head.
âItâs not Toto.â I say in a serious voice
âWHAT !?!?!â Alison panics
I put on a regal and important sounding voice. âHis name is Mariette and he wants you to respect his life choicesâ
Alison glares intensely at me. I wink at Toto/Mariette. He gets up and licks my face.
âI assume you have no idea what contributed to the horrible mixture that got you into thisâ Alison says
âHow ever did you know?â I say with mock surprise.
âDo you want me to tell you or not?â Alison asks, clearly exhausted.
âWhy not? I could use a laugh!â I chide
Alison glares at me once again.
âIâve noticed you are in the unfortunate habit of glaring.â I observe. âUnless you wish to look like an old lady by next year, I suggest you try to break that.â
This made Alison extremely angry, then weirdly calm. A devious smile settled onto her face. âI didnât want to have to do this to anyone again, but Iâm afraid youâve rather forced my hand.â She decides.
She picks up the phone on her desk and dials a number.
âIâm afraid we have another âAmberâ. Would you please come take care of her?â Alison asks sweetly
The next thing I know, two muscled guys in security outfits have burst through the doors. One with a obscurely large mustache and a name tag reading âMâ and the other with larger muscles and a name tag reading âLâ.
I canât help myself. âWork out much?â I ask, raising my eyebrows.
M starts to step towards me and raise his fist. Then L pulls out a pair of handcuffs.
My eyes widen but I stay sarcastic. âHey, there buddies! Who might those handcuffs me for?â I ask.
âJust come peacefully and we wonât need to hurt youâ L coaxes, stepping towards me slowly.
âCome where, exactly?â I ask trembling
âOnly the mental institution, exactlyâ M smirks
âNot ever againâ I whisper. I pick up Mariette and begin to stroke him. I back up, almost tripping over a chair. I steady myself and survey the room for an exit.
âDonât be scared, little girl. Do you like candy? They have candy at the institute.â L says.
âIâm 15! Iâm not a little girl!!!!â I yell. I pick up a stapler with the hand that isnât holding Mariette.
âOooo, Is the widdle girl gonna hurt me with the widdle stapler?â M mocks.
So obviously, Iâm forced to throw it at his face. âBulls eye! Right in the mustache!â I exclaim
While M attempts to help L untangle the stapler from his âstache, I run across the room to the window.
I open the window and look out. I see a couple of bushes and past that, a road. It looks un-busy enough to cross safely. It also helps that weâre on the first floor.
I look back and see the guards have untangled the stapler and are now heading towards me.
I once again do the obvious. I hold Mariette tight, jump out the window and hit the ground running.
As I dodge around bushes, Mariette jumps out of my arms and starts running along side me. â Hmph, I guess youâre just as happy to get out of there as I amâ I say. He barks in agreement.
Out of nowhere, just before we get to the road, I trip and fall. I see a car coming. Before I can even scream it hits me.
I never breathed again.
