Dragons. Everyone knows what they are â though the majority of the population has common misconceptions about the creatures. They arenât aggressive and rarely attack without reason. Instead, they are wise, calm, lonely animals that live their lives mostly to themselves. Because the humans are always on the offensive against dragons however, dragons in turn dislike and think badly of the human race.
Drakhev Ignase is one such dragon. He was abandoned by his mother at only three months old, earlier than most dragons, but with his quick wit, he was able to survive in the harsh, cruel world. Yet he was, and still is, unable to live a life of peace with the villagers constantly attacking him for what he is. A dragon. The peopleâs education taught them nothing, for they continue to think dragons are evil beings and therefore seek to slay them.
All Drakhev, and any other dragon in the world, wants is to live in peace. Where he doesnât have to hide and be wary every single time he leaves his cave. Itâs torturous and, now that he is sixteen years old, very tedious.
Heaving a sigh, the mighty dragon lifts his head as his ears flicker upon hearing the sound of metal boots clinking against his stone floor. Not another one, Drakhev groans mentally, shaking his head in disappointment. Now he has to find another cave.
âHello? Is anyone there?â a rather young voice calls, causing Drakhev to blink in confusion. Did the boy not know there was a dragon residing in the cave? âHello?â he calls once more.
Hesitantly, Drakhev extends his neck to look towards the entrance of the cave behind him. A blond teenager had a torch in one hand, the other placed against the stone wall for guidance. He wore metal armor and a large broadsword was strapped on his back. âAre you there, dragon?â
So much for the ignorant child. Drakhev rolls his yellow eyes as he stands up and stretches his scaly limbs. âWhat do you want?
â he hisses, hoping his hoarse voice alone will scare the boy away.
The young warrior visibly startles at the sudden voice, but he leans his torch forward to try to get a better look at Drakhev. He swallows uncomfortably when the massive, green dragon comes into view. âI-Iâm Schirn Wrelts!â his voice comes out as a shout to make sure the dragon can hear him. âLord Reinwald was worried when he heard rumors of a dragon living close to town⊠he was hoping I could get rid of the dragon if the rumors were true⊠which seems to be the caseâŠâ
âSo what?
â Drakhev questions, forcing a sneer on his face. He really hates acting in such a way â itâs unbecoming of him. âAre you going to slay me, as you humans so call it? Iâll let you know even steel canât penetrate a dragonâs scales.
â
Schirn shakes his head quickly, surprising Drakhev. âNo! I-I was hoping I wouldnât have to fight you. Maybe⊠we could come to some sort of agreement? There are lots of other caves around here! You could⊠live in one a bit farther from the townâŠâ
The green dragonâs right eye widens, as if he is raising an eyebrow. âAnd what of the humans that live in the town closer to that cave? Iâm sure not all warriors are as kind as you, and Iâm quite sick and tired of having to move about so much!
â Drakhev snaps, knowing he spoke the truth when he said those words.
âThatâŠThatâs true,â Schirn hesitates, a bit put off by this turn of events. A light goes off in his mind as he looks up to face Drakhev. âThen you can stay in this cave! But please, donât try to attack the townspeople. As long as you donât hurt us, we wonât bother you!â
ââŠYouâre an odd one,
â Drakhev hums, lowering his head so Schirn wouldnât have to strain his neck when looking at him. âYouâre the first human to try to offer such a peace treaty⊠I like it,
â the dragon smiles kindly. âVery well, I will do nothing to hurt your people â I had no intention of such anyway. In return, however, no one will try to âslayâ me.
â
Schirn nods once, a grin plastered on his face. âYes, Iâll be sure to notify everyone in town!â he exclaims while turning to leave. But then he remembers something and turns back to Drakhev. âUmm⊠whatâs your name?â
A puzzled expression shows on the dragonâs face as he blinks in shock. ââŠDrakhev Ignase⊠nice to meet you, Schirn.
â
âLikewise!â the warrior smiles happily while waving at the green creature. âSee ya later, Drakhev!â
The aforementioned dragon waves back as he watches Schirn leave his cave. He smiles a little before chuckling softly, looking out of the opening of his cave at the bright, blue sky. âSee you later, Schirn.
â
Perhaps not all humans were so bad, after all.

Have you ever thought about what fiction is? Probably, such a question may seem surprising: and so everything is clear. Every person throughout his life has to repeatedly create the works he needs for specific purposes - statements, autobiographies, dictations - using not gypsum or clay, not musical notes, not paints, but just a word. At the same time, almost every person will be very surprised if he is told that he thereby created a work of fiction, which is very different from visual art, music and sculpture making. However, everyone understands that a student's essay or dictation is fundamentally different from novels, short stories, news that are created by professional writers. In the works of professionals there is the most important difference - excogitation. But, oddly enough, in a school literature course, you donât realize the full power of fiction. So using our website in your free time discover fiction for yourself.
