Be Careful What You Wish For
Gemma had just been to the mall, searching for the best dress to wear to homecoming. After hours and hours of shopping in every store, she finally found it - the perfect dress. She loved it so much, it was undescribable, the way its light rose pink color would match the soft brown color of her hair. But there was only one problem
- it was way too expensive. Her father had agreed to pay for the dress, if it was a reasonable price. She returned home, happy as ever, so excited to tell her family about the dress.
“Mother, I have found the perfect dress for homecoming!” she exclaimed with joy. She began to show her parents the dress online, but froze when she saw her father’s face.
“Oh, no. No, no, no, this dress will not do. Look at the price Gemma! This is not what I had agreed to pay! Absolutely not. Perhaps you can check another site and search there.” said her father.
“But no, father! I love this one and I won’t settle for anything less! I want this one! Please, father, please! She spent the rest of the week begging and pleading to her father, wanting for him to buy the dress.
“No, Gemma. I have answered no to you countless times, and I think it’s about time you start looking for a new one.” replied her father.
“Ugh! I give up! You are the worst father ever! I hate you! I never ever want to talk to you again. Infact, I wish you weren’t my father! You’re the worst! screamed Gemma as she trampled up the stairs in furry. But never did she know her wish was going to come true...
She woke up the next morning and headed downstairs to get some breakfast and there was a man in the kitchen making her eggs.
“Who are you?” questioned Gemma, as she slowly approached him.
“Why, I am your father, Gemma. Now go. Go make yourself useful.” snapped her father. She thought to herself that there’s no way this man could be her father, he was too mean.
“No, you are most certainly not my father, mister.” But everyone considered him part of the family.
“Father, pass the salt, please.” she would hear her brother ask every night. And “Honey, wonderful dinner, thank you.” her mother would say.
“What is going on? None of this can be real, you sir are not my father and you people don’t even notice!” she cried as she excused herself from the table and raced upstairs. She stayed confused for the rest of the week, not knowing what her life had turned into. Soon she learned that living with this man would not be enjoyable.
“I wish I had my old father back! I miss him so much. This man living here with us is just awfully mean.” “Wow, I was being a real brat that night, wasn’t I? My father didn’t deserve to get treated like that.” she thought to herself as she dosed off thinking about how much she missed him.
She woke up that morning to find out that it was all a dream. That old man was no longer her “father” and she rushed down the stairs to the thought that her real father was still there.
“Father, father!” Gemma shouted running towards him, making him spill his coffee on the Sunday paper. She gave her father a massive hug, causing him to sink in the chair.
“What is it, Gemma?” he questioned.
“I’d like to apaologive father, for the way I treated you. I am so sorry! I had this horrible dream that you weren’t my father any longer and I realize I can’t live without you! I promise I will go searching for another dress!” she sobbed.
“Oh my dear, it’s all right! I am very proud you, you know.” he replied happily. The two spent the day together and from that day on, she learned to never take her father for granted.
