Sucker
Rain pounded the corrugated metal roof, its song dulling her senses as she hid. The 360-degree barrier made by the barrel would only serve her so long. And then what? The end? She could no longer hear the thump, drag…thump, drag
sound he made as he limped. He won’t need that kneecap where he is going anyway,
she thought.
Her legs ached from crouching; her heart, swimming in adrenaline, continued to pound. Stacked barrels to her right began to fall; the racket was horrible. She had to move now. She ran and found a service door ajar. See ya, sucker!
Barrel
“Are you kidding me?” she shrieked.
“No,” he answered. “You have literally thirty seconds left. Where is it?”
The service door swung open and thudded dully against the cinder block wall. Limpy figured out where the door was.
“Good. You grabbed her. She did a number on my leg.”
“Shut up, idiot!” he moved the barrel from her head to the other guy and pulled the trigger.
“I don’t know what you want, but I don’t have it!” she sobbed.
“I know you have it. I just don’t know where. Tell me, right now” The barrel trained back on her.
Wrong
The rain fell harder. Everything swam. He cocked back the hammer.
“Okay, okay! It’s in my purse!” she screamed.
“Find it, now.” His voice was calm. She began rummaging and sifting.
“Here it is,” she said. She tipped her purse so the bullet would exit through its side. She pulled the trigger.
The man began to fall backwards, a look of disbelief on his cold, wet face. His body splashed in the rainwater, sprawled, and his piece skidded away across the pavement.
“You had the wrong girl, jerk.” She then walked away from the bodies and heard sirens coming quickly.
