It was cold the morning Carl and Wanda were walking along the deserted street towards the avenue where they lived. They had been out listening to music and drinking all night long and it going on to five a.m. It would be daylight soon, but for the time being the darkness surrounded them like a cloak. Carl had one hand in his coat pocket and one around Wanda who was carrying a plastic throw cup over half full of beer.
Suddenly out of the darkness, a shadowy hand grabbed the back of Carl's coat and yanked it down over his arms. Wanda's reaction as the muuger tried to extract Carl's wallet from his back pocket was to thrown the beer from the cup into the assailents face and eyes, temporarily blinding him. She moved away into the street and the mugger moved back away from Carl therefore forming a triangle of the three about fifteen feet apart. "what are you doing to my friend you motherf-----r", yelled Wanda as she shuffled from one foot to another like a boxer in the ring. Carl in the meantime had recovered his composure and coat and was watching the mugger as Wanda yelled. "wheres my gun Carl?" "I have it right here' replies Carl as he reaches inside the coat. The Mugger started to move toward Wanda and Carl told him, "don't even think about it if you have any sense!" The mugger freezes in place and his eyes are going back and forth between the couple; he then starts to back away from both of them as he keeps his eyes on them. All of a sudden he turns and runs down the street away from them full speed.
Carl and Wanda are laughing out loud as they resume their walk to their home in good spirits. Carl smiled at wanda as he released his hand from the pen he was holding in his pocket and placed it around Wanda's waist.
