Indeed with hardship there goeth ease.
(Al-Qur’an, 94:5)
Prologue.
She was there beside his bed, holding his hand. He was lying there unconscious of her touch, on his hospital bed taking his lasts breaths, and this was what she didn’t know. She was encountering with all her thoughts never knowing about the tears that were slightly brushing her cheeks.
She remembered the last time she was with his dearest husband Aaban; he was so alive, beautiful and happy. So, how could that have happened? How could he have fallen ill so badly?
She knew it somehow. She saw something coming, something bad. But she just couldn’t realize what it was, may be because she was happy. Happy as always. Happy than ever.
Her thoughts were interrupted by difficult breaths, she lit up as she saw her husband barely moving and opening his eyes. She drew nearer him to plant a kiss on his left eyebrow.
“Jabirah?”
“Yes? I am here.”
“I have always been thankful to Allah for giving me you and I have always been happy with you,” he whispered “As your name says you have always been my comforter. I love you. ”
“And as your name you have always been an angel to me, I love you more.” She said lightly pressing his hand, “I want you to be okay.” A drop of unwanted tear fell from her eye and kissed his chin.
He closed his eyes and she sat there silently praying…

Mrs. Aaban? Mrs. Aaban? Are you alright? Adan said waving her hand in front of Jabirah’s eyes.
Jabirah looked up suddenly gathering her, now shattered thoughts. She didn’t know how long she was sitting there praying and remembering her beautiful memories with Aaban.
Adan started telling, she guessed her husband’s condition. She didn’t want to hear anything as she was afraid of hearing something bad.
“He is going to be alright. Right?” said Jabirah, kind of confidently.
“This is what I’m telling you. We all are really sorry...”
“What?” she said horrified.
“We could not save him.” She said emphasizing over every word.
She didn’t ask anything else; she knew that doctor was telling the truth, she didn’t have to act like other women who usually couldn’t believe the doctors.
Death was such a mere reality, but she didn’t know death was such in love with her Aaban.
She moved her eyes towards Aaban who was lying there in peace; tears tumbled down her cheeks silently. She moved closer to him and touched his cheek, it was cold as death.
“Umm, we should get him…”
“I want some time with him alone” Jabirah interrupted Adan, never moving her sight from Aaban.
“Okay” she said silently understanding the fragility of the situation and leaving Jabirah alone. The other doctor who didn’t need to say anything also left the hospital room quietly.
Jabirah moved near Aaban and touched the freckle of white hair over his head. Memories twirled around her like patches of light in the darkest room. She sat there for hours not thinking of anything.
And finally out of nowhere it was time to burry Aaban.
