âIâve heard thatâs hard to do. Really hard. Only some of the best Wiccans and Warlocks have managed to do itâ she replied gawping at the sheet.
âReally? Why has she given it to me then?â I couldnât help but ask. Did she want me to fail?
âI bet she thinks you can do itâ Gabby replied handing me back my sheet. I turned back to the book for the incantation for the spell.
Macus Taronus alos timarta Aliscos (add date here e.g â19th of the 4th 1887âand time e.g 2030 or 0300 and location âroom 18, Swiss covert, Switzerlandâ)
I had to think for a second, if you could go back in time you could watch things happen. You could watch the worst moments of someoneâs life or you could watch their most favourite memories.
My mind spun on the different things Iâd be able to see with this spell and within no time the bell went for the end of the lesson.
Potions.
Jeff started the lesson in the same way. Explaining to us when our exams are going to be and the fact he had already picked a potion for us to make in pairs. Gabby and I had been given âThe Halestos Potionâ â a healing potion â for any injury, shallow or deep. According to Gabby it was meant to be hard to brew. Very hard. So far I had only been given hard things for my exams so I wasnât surprised when I was given âMakitiskaâ â a very dangerous and rare animal, with a bullâs head, a monkeyâs body but a scorpion tail - to study in magic creatures. And finally I was paired with Brad in Battle which meant a proper battle had to be done in our exam â against each other.
The day was stressful, very stressful. For each exam the teacher had given me a hard topic to do. Almost as soon as schooling hours had finished I took my books to my room and started to read and read, trying to get every possible thing out of the books and into my head. It seemed it would be âThe Time Spellâ that would be the hardest.
âMacus Taronus Alos Timarta Aliscos 16th of the 5th 2011, 0315, room 31, Swiss Covert, Switzerlandâ I closed my eyes in hope, but no luck. Nothing had changed. I hadnât moved an inch and everything looked exactly where it was supposed to be.
The door knob started to twitch. Instinctively I dived into my wardrobe, but what I saw shocked me. I had just walked in. Me, Gabby and Alison. I looked to my watch. 03:16. It had worked, I had gone back in time twenty minutes.
âIâm going to show Alison a few spells are you going to come with us?â asked Gabby.
âNah, I think Iâm going to practice ready for my spells and enchantment examsâ I replied â well not me, the me outside the wardrobe.
âFair enough. Weâll see you laterâ said Gabby practically pushing Alison out of the room.
I watched as I sat on my bed with the spells and enchantment book in my lap. I â myself â was starting to get restless in the wardrobe. I was compact in a very tight space and I defiantly wouldnât be able to stay like this much longer. I looked to my watch. 03:34. In a minute I will cast the spell. And so I did. Once I â the one outside the wardrobe â had gone I climbed out and straightened my gear.
I grabbed my book and looked through it. This spell wouldnât be very useful if I canât travel back to my original date. According to the book all I had to do was repeat the spell but add on the end â instead of the date- âorigatilâ and that would send me to where I was supposed to be.
There was a knock on my door.
âCome inâ I shouted.
Jeff opened the door and walked in.
âYou ok?â he asked me.
âYeh, just revisingâ I replied.
âI just saw Alison and Gabby. They said you are stressingâ he said taking a seat next to me.
âNo. I was stressing. I just had a go at the time spell. And it worked. I went back in time exactly twenty minutes, which is what I wanted to doâ I replied chuffed to bits.
âGood. Thatâs very good. I canât even do that spell. I always struggled with that spell. I used to ask for twenty minutes in the past and Iâll end up in the stone age. The only bit I could do was get back to the original time.â He laughed.
âYou went to the stone age?â I laughed.
âYeh, itâs not that funnyâ he smiled.
âYes it isâ I laughed âI canât imagine you in just a piece of fabricâ
âCharlieâ said Jeff in a mock stern fashion.
I looked him in the eye.
âSo what else have you been set? I set you the Halestos potion. What creature did they set you?â he asked.
âMakitiskaâ I replied.
âOuchâ he commented âThatâs a tough one. Your father had that seventh year. I just laughed at his face when he found out. You should visit that date. Itâs classic. 16th of the 5th 1990. Nine oâclock I think, you might have to sit it out for a while. Room 56, French covert, France.â
âIâll have a look at that at some pointâ I replied.
âYou should, his face is so funny, or at least it was to meâ he said with a slight reminiscing laugh.
âWhen did mom and dad meet?â I asked him.
âAt the age of fifteen. There was an European competition for Wiccan Dodge ball and it was held here, in the Swiss Covert. Both me and your father came here to play, and of course he saw your mother and couldnât keep his eyes off her. Love at first sight, it wasâ he said.
âWhat date was that?â I asked him.
âYou want to see it donât you?â He asked me back.
I nodded.
âOk. 23rd of the 11th 1982. Three oâclock the match started and it was after the match. Training room 3, Swiss Covert, Switzerlandâ he replied.
âOk.â I said closing the spells and enchantments book.
âIâll leave you to view some memoriesâ Jeff said standing.
I rushed to him and hugged him.
âThank you for everythingâ I said to him.
He hugged me back and said, âIt was nothing. I wouldnât have passed on it for the worldâ
He headed out and as soon as the door slammed shut I started.
âMacus Taronus Alos Timarta Aliscos. 23rd of the 11th 1982. 1500. Training room 3, Swiss Covert, Switzerlandâ I chanted. I closed my eyes as a spinning blue light surrounded me creating a tunnel of twisting and turning blue light. The floor beneath my feet vanished and I was floating down the tunnel of blue light. Just then I felt floor beneath my feet. I was in the great hall. The room was crowded with people in the stands. I had landed on the third step up. Somebody headed up the stairs walking straight through me. In front of me was the pitch and on each side the teams were chatting among themselves. It was then I spotted him, Dad, and beside him was Jeff. And of course it wasnât long until I spotted mom as well. She walked in through the main doors. Her bright red hair flowed down her back, bouncing with each step. As soon as she came in viewing view of the players, Jerome had the eye for her. Both me and my dad watched as she took her seat on the front row, accompanied by her two friends â one of them must be Natasha Flemming who had wrote in her book.
The game started.
Typical dodge ball, dodging ball after ball. The game kept going until one of the teams were out. The French team was wearing a kit decorated in the French flag, and then the other team had the England flag on it â Englandâs team.
Eventually there was two Vs two. Jeff and dad Vs two English men. Jeff threw the ball getting one of the other players out, but he was hit by a ball by the last remaining Englishmen. Dad and the final Englishman played for at least ten minutes until dad caught out the Englishman. The French team flooded onto the pitch lifting dad on to their shoulders. The crowd started cheering including mom.
When dad had been placed down he walked up to my mother. I slipped through the crowd so I could hear what they were saying.
âHelloâ My dad said.
âHelloâ my mother replied going a little red in the cheeks.
âUrm... I was wondering if youâd like to go for a meal with me some point. Iâve been told about a nice place just outside the covertâ said my dad.
âBut none of us are allowed to leave the covert walls, Iâm sure your teacher told you.â Sneered one of my momâs friend.
âTasha.â Growled my mom. So that was Natasha. My mom turned to my dad and said cheerfully âIâd love to, but first, what is your name?â
âJerome Gyid. And you?â he asked her in response.
âSarah Manningâ she replied with a sweet smile.
âIt was good to meet youâ he said taking her hand, and planting a kiss onto it.
I could see my mom blushing.
The grand hall had been empting as they talked but eventually dad said âI had better go and freshen up. Shall I meet you outside this room at seven?â
âOf courseâ she replied.
Both of them headed out but at different times and with their own friend groups.
âMacus Taronus Alos Timarta Aliscos. Origatilâ I said slamming my eyes shut. And in an instant I had touched down on the floor of my room.
Mom and dad really were love at first sight. Now on to the next memory.
âMacus Taronus Alos Timarta Aliscos. 16th of the 5th 1990. 0900. Room 56, French covert, Franceâ I said slamming my eyes shut for the third time. I again travelled down the swirling tunnel of blue light, until my feet touch the floor. I opened my eyes. I was sat in a classroom. The French classrooms were a dark brown colour, making it dark inside. There was only just enough light to be able to see what you are doing. The classroom was empty besides the teacher a few chattering students. The bell went off.
I was stood in the back corner on the opposite side of the door so I could watch as my dad and Jeff took their seats. My dad and Jeff sit like me and Gabby do. One in front of the other. Jeff was on the back row and my dad in front of him. Just like in my Spells and Enchantments room this morning on the board the dreaded word was written.
Examinations
But underneath it said
Three Months to go till Magical Creatures exam
âAlright, class, as it says on the board, you have only three months until the Magical Creatures examination. For the exam you will be answering questions on a magical creature that I will be choosing for you. Of course the rarer the creature is the more marks you will get, but if you fail to answer on it you will be held back to do the re-sit in August.â Explained the teacher.
I heard the whole class gulp, just like my class had.
âNow, I will be picking a Magical Creature I believe you should be able to do - depending on your ability of course.â The teacher continued. âEach of you will have attached to your exam timetables the
